Seeing that this is a deadend, Lyrel turns and moves into the hallway.
Big ugly statue - not relevant for our cause
Aug 8, 2025 10:55 am
"careful Morton, it could be a trap, or bring a curse upon you!" Myrtha stated with a degree of urgency in her voice. She had never given many signs of religious or spiritual leanings, but it was obvious she was ill at ease in the presence of such a statue.

"Is this some kind of godling, Mother Arkon?" the warrior asked, looking at the beautiful priestess with inquiring eyes. She had never seen such a snake human hybrid creature, and wondered what it might be: a mythical being in some pantheon, or an exemplar of the myriad strange species and aberrations to grace the Flanaess.
OOC:
Internet access still quite spotty, so do not wait on my behalf. Myrtha is ready to resume exploration following the same general principle of choosing left branches first. On a metagamey level we should sure come back and take this idol somewhere to be sold or destroyed.

"Careful Morton, it could be a trap, or bring a curse upon you!" Myrtha warns as Morton approaches the statue.

But there is no apparent ill consequence of Morton placing the coin in the coils of the serpent at the statue's base.

"Big ugly statue" Lyrel manifests her art critic, adding "Not relevant for our cause" before squeezing back out of the chamber into the tunnel behind them.

Myrtha turns to Arya and asks "Is this some kind of godling, Mother Arkon?"

Arya, who has been wondering that herself, draws herself up and assumes what she hopes is a magisterial air. "Some would say so, but I suspect it to be rather a demon than a deity." A luscious curl slips from her hair to flop down in front of her face, and Arya deflates a little, shrugging as she pushes her hair back over her ear. "Or it could just be a monster of the artist's imagination."

With an anxious backward glance, Myrtha squeezes herself through the narrow gap to follow Lyrel out into the passage again. Even though the flames provide no illumination, Myrtha finds the flickering glow of the elf's hair reassuring in the dark as she waits for one of the others with a torch to join them. Arya obliges a few moments later, nearly dropping the torch when she gets stuck between the two beams. Turning sideways a bit more, the cleric is able to get through.

Aanbo urges those remaining in the cavern with the statue to hurry. "Let's go. We ought to stick together in these dark tunnels. We'll keep the features of that figurine in mind should we come across more."

The monk sucks in his belly to fit through the narrow passage to join Myrtha.

Theran will usher whoever is left out of the chamber before exiting himself.
Aug 8, 2025 4:34 pm
"Yes, let's move on." Chase will head back out.
Aug 8, 2025 7:50 pm
Morton ushers his way out.

As Theran brings up the rear and the others squeeze through the narrow gap and back into the tunnel, Myrtha resumes following the left hand wall through the open chamber, Arya following close behind with the torch so that she can see her way. This leads the party up a north-by-northwest tunnel that quickly curves straight north. Continuing further, they reach another intersection, where a tunnel opens up on the left from the main passage leading north.

OOC:
I think Chase is suppose to be 2nd in line behind Myrtha.
Aug 10, 2025 12:03 am
Myrtha halts at the intersection, looking both ways for a couple of heartbeats each, before turning and walking to the newly discovered left-hand branch of the north-bound tunnel.
OOC:
Yep, I believe Chase was right behind Myrtha, followed by Arya. Lyrel had wanted to stay in the middle of the group if I am not mistaken.

Chase will follow Myrtha providing light as she leads the way prodding the floor with her spear. It is slow going but better safe than sorry. He will make another mark as the move to the next corridor.
Aug 10, 2025 2:34 am
"Hold on, hold on!" Chase objects to the order that people left the previous cave, squeezing up the narrow passage past the other party members to take his accustomed place behind Myrtha. Lyrel shrugs and allows herself to get shuffled back a few people; in her enthusiasm to get away from the repellent statue, she'd pushed ahead with the warrior woman. It is very tight to rearrange the order that people left the previous cave, but as Olpert has drilled into them, it is 'important to observe the proper procedure at all times.'

Satisfied with his restored position in the line, Chase makes another mark on one of the support beams, and Myrtha continues following the wall, touching the wall with her left hand around the shield straps every few paces. Chase taps the hard-packed dirt floor by her feet, which forces her to go slow so as not to trip.

After a dozen paces or so, the passage turns sharply to the left, then keeps turning as it widens into another chamber...but there is nothing in this one other than a few cracked bones.

Knowing that the group will want to retain the marching order, Aanbo decides to make some room by going back to the 3-way intersection. He keeps an eye to the north, sparing an occasional glance south, while the team regroups.

"Dead end", she concludes, before she gets ready to head back. She is very conscious that her size and bulky armor don’t make these reordering easy, butt there is no avoiding the discomfort altogether.
OOC:
Back to the last intersection and then head north, I guess.
Aug 10, 2025 4:04 pm
"Dead end," Myrtha assesses. As Aanbo squeezes past the others to leave, the rest of the group moves into the wider space of the chamber so that the line can turn around. Myrtha leads the way back out, Chase right behind her, and nods to Aanbo standing watch at the intersection. Myrtha then follows the northern fork, following the wall on her left. A few paces more, and the tunnel dead-ends in another tunnel leading east and west.

"Left again?" asks Aanbo. The group seemed to be heading away from the direction of the temple, but he kept his doubts quiet as nobody could know where these tunnels lead.

"Don’t mind turning right if you prefer," Myrtha responded, though it was obvious she’d rather keep turning left.

Chase looking at the others"By turning left all the time we will eventually get there while exploring all these passages. That is how you should navigate a labyrinth."

runekyndig says:
Ah, I see your logic. By keeping your left hand on the wall at all times, you will eventually find the exit of a labyrinth. Very sensible
As they walk in darkness, the flames of Lyrel's hair show that they are made of fairy glamour; they cast almost no light.
I'm glad that you agree Chase, with what I say not that long ago....
OOC:
@mathias0077 that Chase refused to strip down and now that he repeats Lyrels words, is turning Lyrels and Chases relationship into an adversarial one. Are you okay with that?
It can be fun having two characters bickering, but only if the players agree. We can have them save eachothers butts later and change their relationship to something more solid after.
