Salvia shares the goodies with folks. I assume the oddities are just that, and don’t possess further properties?

OOC:
Oddities are magical. If you study them/put them on, you know the hat grants you the knowledge of one language, and the eye grants 1d6 damage on all attacks for 1 minute. You now have recovered the book and the dagger, and the statue was broken, meaning you have recovered everything asked of you to the best of your abilities.

Salvia offers the eye to anyone who wants it and asks the group, "Here is some coin and this eye will help in battle. I'd like this fashionable cap, unless someone else does. But it seems like we have found the stolen items. Let us return to our employer, shall we?" She heads out and Arne falls in behind her.

Hermann grimaces but can’t help but be pleased that the nefarious book had actually been a boon against those with bad intent. Perhaps one of his order had penned the thing. It was something worth considering, if the higher ups could stomach trickery like that.

"Yes. We did well here. Though it seems we had an ally here in this book. Does our employer know its secret, I wonder?" he muses. He slips his rapier back into its place and departs. The corpses would have to take care of themselves…

You make your way back to Goverbandy without problem and he receives you eagerly. He meets you in the same room as before with hope on his face.

"How goes your investigation?"

"It’s is concluded. Though… one of the items is beyond repair; at least by means that we possess. We did punish those that caused the damage!" Hermann reports, a little stiff. The man was thoroughly tired, though he wouldn’t let that show just yet!

Salvia steps forth with the golden book. She says, "Indeed, here is the book. I should warn you, however, that this book is a fraud. The ritual contained herein that purports to produce a philosopher's stone in fact transforms the user into an ooze blob. I would not recommend it. Who knows what other traps it contains? Keep it as a curiosity if you must, but I would not use it if I were you. And the statuette broke due to one of the fool thieves, releasing a demon, which we dispatched. Returning these items of power, from individuals not lacking in power themselves, in a matter of hours is, I think, a truly exemplary performance, don't you agree, Goverbandy?"

OOC:
Are you returning the knife as well?
Nov 12, 2025 4:39 am
OOC:
I don't think Salvia has it! But she would, yes. Who has it? Hermann?
Nov 12, 2025 10:58 am
OOC:
Yep!

"And this." Hermann says, after something of an internal pause. The knife was beyond useful. Of the three artifacts, this was the one with the greatest promise.

Still, there was nothing to be done. And so he hands it over with some ceremony.

"It won’t cut the skin. An immensely useful thing, truth be told. In the right hands, that is…"

Goverbandy receives the news, and items, with relief. "A shame about the statue, but dealing with the corruption inside it is probably better in the long run. Despite being locked away in my vault I never felt completely safe with it around, even if I wasn't sure exactly what it contained. I believe you went above and beyond to fulfill your end of the bargain. A 'truly exemplary performance' indeed! Mya," he says, turning to his head of security, "Please fetch twenty gold pieces for each of my investigators."

Mya nods and leaves the room. She returns a few minutes later with four small leather purses that jingle slightly. She puts them on the table in front of each of you. She gives you each a nod as well.

"Now that that's taken care of, I hope you well in your future endeavors. I will keep an ear open for any others who might be in need of your services some day. Good luck."

"Much appreciated," Kade says and gives Goverbandy a nod.
