Not Today, Death!

Hermann lingers a moment, wondering on how quickly this particular group has dispatched all of their foes today.

"An efficient bunch." he muses to Salvia, before stepping out of the room and down towards the panicked sounds.
OOC:
What can be done about combat? More fodder units, I’m guessing, to spread out the hits?
Oct 24, 2025 4:43 pm
OOC:
I almost didn’t use that spell because it is too OP I think. But I figured I’d leave it up to the dice. And, well… *shrugs*
Salvia follows the others toward the noise, though she first takes a moment to scan the room for anything magical.

OOC:
Just run the adventure as is lol. Sometimes its cool to have heroes be badasses!
You reach a wooden door reinforced with iron bands just next to the kitchen. It looks like it leads down into the basement. The door is locked with a heavy lock. But it's nothing to stop your new magical knife. It is easily cut through and the door swings open smoothly despite its heft. Narrow stone steps descend into a bricked cellar. The stairs turn to the left and out of sight but you can hear sounds of someone mumbling beyond. A lantern casts flickering shadows of two forms are cast on the wall at the bend. They look monstrous, but its probably just a trick of perspective.

Hermann fishes his Holy Symbol from its place and holds it up once more.

"I will hold one of them fast. Focus on the other and we will be above ground again before long." he says, reminding himself of the holy incantation needed to imprison the profane!
Oct 27, 2025 3:19 pm
Kade holds up his axe, nodding for Hermann to lead the way.
Oct 28, 2025 1:26 pm
Reaching the bottom of the stairs reveals the basement of the manor house. It's a large open room of brick walls. Numerous bookshelves, workbenches, casements containing jars and vials, and stacks of books litter the area. A large fireplace sits at the opposite end. In front of it are Crenus Crumble and his servant Mors. It is their shadows which seem to fill the room. Crenus has a large golden book open on a table nearby and his preparing something in a black cauldron over the fire. Smaller bowls and vessels are scattered around the table with the book. Both look up at you in anger as you enter the space.

"You aren't supposed to be here!" Crumble shouts. "Mors, take care of them." Crumble reaches for a vial of something on his table and hands it to him.
Oct 28, 2025 3:19 pm
Salvia acts quickly, backing away as she weaves her spell (Entropy Storm!), targeting the two men and the cauldron, but trying not to destroy the golden book. Books are our friends, after all!

As she completes her spell, threads of dark energy extrude from the area between the two men, momentarily decaying everything they touch. Time speeds up; entropy does its cruel work; they men are wracked with pain and objects, like the cauldron, disintegrate even faster.
OOC:
People take 2d6, objects 4d6. People make a Strength roll with 1 bane and take the object damage rather than the people damage if they fail. If they fail, they also become vulnerable and weakened.
[ +- ] Entropy Storm

Rolls

Human damage - (2d6)

(51) = 6

Object damage - (4d6)

(1421) = 8

OOC:
Can we fire away or do we need an initiative/dex kind of deal?

Enemies usually go first but PCs can use their reaction to go first in a round. Unless you have a good use for it, it is usually to go first at least in the first round.

The book is definitely within the area of the spell. But if its magical maybe it will survive! Maybe lol.

Hermann rounds into the room, squinting his eyes for fear of some profane scene. He holds his symbol aloft, and jerks it towards Mors.

"I denounce you, cretin!" he barks, hoping to hold the thing fast!
OOC:
You have the symbol of your faith, spiritual beliefs, or ethical system. If you lose this symbol, you can fashion a new one after you rest. The symbol has a number of charges equal to your level. Once per round, you can expend 1 charge from the symbol each time you use it to invoke one of the following effects. You replenish expended charges after you rest.
• Holy Smite: When your roll to attack results in a success, you can deal an extra 3d6 damage.
• Holy Healing: You can use an action to enable yourself or one ally within 5 yards to heal 3d6 damage.
• Holy Denunciation: You can use an action to present your holy symbol to one creature that can see you, hear you, and is within 10 yards. Make a Will roll against the target's Will. You roll with 1 boon if you know the target is a demon, faerie, fiend, spirit, or undead. On a success, the target becomes held (luck ends).

Rolls

Will - (1d20+2)

(6) + 2 = 8

Boon? - (1d6)

(3) = 3

Kade moves in as well, Axe held high he let it drop hopefully into Mors.

Rolls

Axe - Attack + boon - (1d20+5, 1d6)

1d20+5 : (17) + 5 = 22

1d6 : (1) = 1

Axe - Damage - (3d6)

(265) = 13

With everybody focused on Mors, Winter does likewise, quickly springing forward and firing a shot!
OOC:
Take the initiative, move 3 yards and attack with first strike and springing strike.

24 to hit, 21 damage. Outmaneuver triggers.
[ +- ] Springing Strike
[ +- ] First Strike

The poor servant, who has so far done nothing hostile towards the body, is being assaulted on all sides. He is battered and bruised but still standing. Hermann attempts to denounce the man, and man he is, but the servant doesn't feel denounced as he hasn't done anything particularly denouncement-worthy yet. Salvia's dark tendrils poke and skewer portions of Mors and Crumble who scream out in pain and anger. Kade lands a decisive chop on the beefy guard who grunts as fresh blood squirts from the wound. Winter follows this up with an arrow shaft to the gut.

Mors quickly pours the vial onto his body. A quicksilver fluid like mercury spreads over his body, turning him an animated silver statue. Even more, one of his hands extends and forms a battle axe of hardened silver. He swings at Kade in retaliation, hoping to take a pound of flesh in return.

Crumble cries out as his golden grimoire begins to disintegrate. He turns on the party with fear and desperation and hate burning in his eyes. He holds up a hand. A beam of black anti-light shoots out and he waves his hand at Hermann, Salvia, and Winter.
[ +- ] Black Beam of Death
OOC:
Winter, Hermann, and Salvia lose 12 Health (not take damage, your health is reduced by this much) and need to make Agility saves with 1 bane. On a failure, your Health is reduced by another 26 points. Of course I roll a nat 1 on Mors' likely only attack this combat lol.

Rolls

Mors vs Kade - (1d20+1d6+4)

(1) + (5) + 4 = 10

Crumble vs others Health damage - (3d6)

(615) = 12

Health damage on fail - (7d6)

(4456142) = 26

Oct 31, 2025 1:26 pm
Kade blocks aside the attack from Mors before he strikes down another swing of the axe. He realizes he needs to deal with the servant quick, before Crumble lets out another such attack.

Rolls

Axe - Attack with boon - (1d20+5, 1d6)

1d20+5 : (14) + 5 = 19

1d6 : (1) = 1

Axe - Damage - (3d6)

(513) = 9

Salvia ducks out of the way of the worst of the black beam of death!
OOC:
That was Save or Die! She only has a total of 22 Health.

Rolls

Agility - (1d20+1-1d6)

(15) - (2) + 1 = 14

OOC:
I suspect we all know how this is going to go!
OOC:
I think success is a 12! Jammy bastard, Hermann!

Rolls

Agility - (1d20+2-1d6)

(16) - (5) + 2 = 13

OOC:
Not sure if this got address, but that Entropy Storm requires saves from the targets...

"A creature makes a Strength roll. On a failure, the creature takes an extra 2d6 damage and becomes vulnerable and weakened (luck ends both); it makes the roll to end these afflictions with 1 bane. A creature or object incapacitated by this damage drops to 0 Health and becomes erased from existence."

Vulnerable and weakened could be helpful here!

OOC:
Missed that part, sorry! They both made it lol. Also yes, Crumble is quite dangerous! Maybe your spell wasn't too OP when the enemies have serious firepower of their own haha.
Kade lands another blow on Mors. The quicksilver coating seems to absorb some of the blow but the large man staggers back even more injured!
OOC:
Mors is on his last legs. One more solid hit seems like it would take him out.

Rolls

Mors Str - (1d20+4)

(16) + 4 = 20

Crumble Str - (1d20)

(16) = 16

Salvia yelps in pain as Crumble's spell strikes her body. She shakes off the effects, though she'll need some time to heal later.

She scowls, grits her teeth, and says, "Very well, Mr. Crumble, you leave me no choice. I foresaw this moment...and your demise!"

She points a finger at him and casts Disassemble once more, but this time, she calls on her Uncanny Revelations, having foreseen this moment in the stars during her meditation the night before!
OOC:
OK going all-in on this one. Salvia has the ability to replace a dice roll with one of there three Revelation rolls she made at the beginning. One of those rolls is a 19. Add her bonus and that's a 23, but she also makes the roll with a Boon thanks to her Combat Precognition Talent, AND I am gonna use the elven Unearthly Grace to add 5 to the result. The total of the spell roll below must exceed his Strength score, which I am sure it does, thus dealing the damage. Well, that is a fair deal lower than average damage, but still a lot!
[ +- ] Disassemble
