Not Today, Death!

I think perhaps a little ‘The story so far…’ might be good. We’ve collected some stuff like the knife!

Maybe stick all the key moments/clues into OOC?

Salvia spends some time examining the magical sword and the various powders and potions that are present.
OOC:
I looked for rules about identifying magic items, but found only an 'identifying trinkets' sidebar...

OOC:
For a weapon I'll just say using it once in combat will let you discover it, otherwise make an Int roll to discover its effect. The potions and powders will be the same way. I think you'll already know the powder is the chorian dust discovered earlier.
Oct 3, 2025 2:59 am
Salvia examines things and says, "This dust is the same that was used to put the guards to sleep. The dagger, which was taken from here, cuts through things like the lock at the estate. And the statue was one of the objects stolen. I’d bet that mud is the same as the mud at the estate. This man may have been our thief, but someone or something crushed him. Violently. But who?"

She examines the mud and the potion and swings around the sword, tearing it out, before hading it off to someone else.

"Then there’s the note with Crumble’s name. Do we think his large body guard could have done this damage?"
OOC:

OOC:
The sword is an enchanted short sword (1 boon to attack rolls) and the potion is a potion of invisibility.

Salvia shares what she has learned with the others. She offers the sword to someone who might use such a thing. If no one takes it, she will give it to Arne.

She examines the damage to the area and the crushed man. Could Crumble's bodyguard have done this?

"With the proper motivation, I see no reason why he couldn’t." Hermann said, though it was guesswork rather than solid fact. Still, an inquisitor often had to rely on guesswork, didn’t he?…

"Perhaps we will find out for ourselves, should we level the accusation at him." he says, unhappy at the thought of being popped!

Judging from the wounds of the body and destruction of the room, it seems unlikely to have been caused by a human. If this was a targeted killing, it would be foolish indeed to be so obvious about it. Salvia finds no footprints outside of the corpse's (which do match the footprints found in Groverbandy's estate). The amount of mud is also much more than what would be tracked in on a single, or even double, pair of feet.
Oct 4, 2025 2:20 am
Salvia observes the situation and then sums up what she knows so far. She says, "Three items were stolen from the estate. One, a statue of a lesser demon, now broken. We have the shards of the statue and the story to go with it. Two, the knife that can cut through objects but is dull against flesh. That leaves only the book. And I can't help but think that we should return to Mr Crumble's home and ask how this dead man has his name on a scrap of paper... As for how he died, it looks more like he was trampled by ... hippos or something with many muddy feet! But of course that makes no sense here, so I am at a loss."
OOC:
I am also on heavy meds so I won't be solving any mysteries or picking up on subtle clues... apologies...

"You think it may be the same demon we fought?" Kade asks. "Or another on the loose somewhere?"
Oct 5, 2025 1:50 pm
Hermann reached for the knife, ensuring that it was still in their possession. He thinks then to use the knife and infiltrate Crumble’s residence and show him how an inquisitors extracts information that isn’t offered willingly!
OOC:
Back to Crumble then? Back and forth! That’s just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes!
Oct 5, 2025 6:02 pm
OOC:
To Crumble's!
OOC:
Also... Don't think I didn't see what you did. You should be ashamed.
Oct 9, 2025 4:03 am
You make your way back to Crumble's abode and the familiar fence, gate, and bell. You ring the bell and the large manservant returns to greet you. "You have returned so soon. I regret to inform you that Master Crumble is in the middle of a delicate experiment and is unavailable for the moment. If you are free this evening and the master has finished, I can send you dinner invitations?"
Oct 9, 2025 5:58 am
Saliva nods and turns to her companions and whispers, so that the door man cannot hear, saying, "Well, friends? I say we accept the terms, but then we go sneak a peek. Because my money is that we'd find him conducting a ritual with the stolen book!"
Oct 9, 2025 11:08 am
"Well I ain't much for stealth," Kade whispers back, but nods to Salvia.
Oct 9, 2025 4:06 pm
"Fine. Fine!" Hermann says irritated. In fact, the man had no intention of waiting more than five minutes to make his way inside.

He pulls free the knife that could cut through stone, and once the group is alone, will go about cutting their way into the house from some quiet spot.
Oct 9, 2025 6:17 pm
Sylvie turns back to the large man and says, "Very well, we shall return at the dinner hour. Come, friends." And with a flourish of her cloak, she turns and walks off, Arne falling into step behind her.

Once out of sight, she looks to the Inquisitor and it id evident that they are of the same mind She nods and smiles, and says, That dagger, yes?"

"Let’s see what twenty silvers and a day’s effort have bought me!" he says, studying the blade before getting the others ready for him to cut a hole into the house so they could get the answers they were seeking!
Oct 11, 2025 10:58 pm
Salvia nods and prepares to follow the Inquisitor through the breach.

Hermann finds the knife works as well as rumored. Cutting through the house exterior was about as difficult as cutting through clay. It took only about a minute to cut an entrance big enough to wiggle through. The light from outside streamed through the hole, illuminating the otherwise darkened room. They were in an unused bedroom in the rear of the house from the look of it. An old bed covered in dust and easily a few decades old squatted in the center of the room. Equally dusty furniture including a padded chair, a wardrobe closet, and a desk were the only other items. A closed door is opposite you.
