Salvia raises her eyebrows in surprise -- she had not made the connection until now. She nods and says, "Yes, let us away. Thank you, master Crumble. Should we find the book, we will take your offer under consideration! I for one am disposed to help you, but we shall see. Good day, sirs."

She turns to go and nods to Arne, heading out to head to this Lily place.

THE JEWELER'S SHOP

Kade isn't sure if it was mentioning fighting men on a battlefield, the threat that he might have to hurt her, or insulting how she was holding the knife, but what he does know is that one or all of them were the wrong approach to take with a scared girl who was likely homeless and without family. The young girl spins around and quickly cuts through a section of solid wall as if it were paper. The whole is just big enough for her to squeeze through. In a matter of seconds she has escaped outside.

CRENUS CRUMBLE'S HOUSE

"I wish you luck in your search then," the man says phlegmily. "Please escort these nice people out, Mors." Crumble spins, well revolves like a planet, and makes his way out of the parlor first. You can hear the stairs creak under his weight as he ascends to the second floor. Mors says, "This way then," and directs you out of the house and back through the main gate.

Having left the residence with the usual pleasantries, Hermann asks:

"Do you suppose they are still there? Perhaps it’s better to return to our employer in the hopes that we might regroup there. If they’ve spent all this time at the Lily, well… they’ve seen either great success or great failure!"

GM: Do we have a sense of how much time has passed? Is the Lily far? Any other info?

Kade sighs. "May have been too scary," he mutters, then turns to Winter. "We should get out of here until the city watch think we're behind this. You want to try and track her down?"

OOC:
It's been about two hours since you first met with Goverbandy, thanks for the reminder. It's just about noon. The Lily is not far, about ten minutes by walking.
2 hours have now elapsed.

IN THE CITY
Salvia, Hermann, and Arne are walking through the town after their meeting with Crenus Crumble when they see a young girl sprinting across the road, knife in hand. She approaches a small gate at a nearby house, swings the knife, and cuts right through the bars. The gate collapses in half and the girl leaps over the wreckage and into the small yard beyond, out of sight.

Salvia watches as the girl runs and then reacts with alarm as she cuts through iron with ease. She exclaims, "My word, she cut through that gate as if it were butter." Salvia approaches the gate and examines it, wondering how the girl did it. She also looks into the yard, curious about the girl as well.

"No time to dawdle!" Hermann shouts, as he whips out his rapier and rushes after the knife wielding girl with haste!

"Come! Come! Before she gets away!" he shouts back, urging the others on with a swish of his blade!
Aug 31, 2025 5:45 pm
Salvia follows, but shouts after Hermann, saying, "Take care, now, Inquisitor! Perhaps she is fleeing from danger? Don't exact justice without speaking to her, yes?"

She steps daintily over the broken gate as Arne vaults over athletically, moving in front of her in an attempt to keep her safe.

Ok I guess this is a good time to try out the chase rules. Everyone makes an Agility roll. If the pursuers (the PCs in this case) succeed, the lead is reduced by one. If the pursued (the girl) succeeds, the lead is increased by one. If both succeed or fail, there is no change. Only half the party needs to succeed if there is more than one in either group. The chase is over when the lead is reduced to 0, or when the pursuers call off the chase. The girl starts with a lead of 1 for Salvia and Hermann, and with 2 for Winter and Kade if they choose to participate. It could be a good way to unite the group!

Rolls

Girl Agility - (1d20+2)

(18) + 2 = 20

Sep 2, 2025 3:57 pm
Kade rushes after the girl, though he doesn't have faith that his old knees will be able to keep up.

Rolls

Agility - (1d20+0)

(19) = 19

Sep 2, 2025 5:17 pm
Salvia trots after the girl, who seems to be in quite the hurry. Arne stays with his Lady.

Rolls

Agility for Salvia and Are (they have the same bonus) - (1d20+1)

(5) + 1 = 6

Alright, narrate how it looks like that you supernaturally catch up to this girl!

Hermann was no stranger to giving chase, and even less of a stranger to giving chase to those who desperately didn’t want to be caught. Their lives often depended on it.

He races off after the girl, careful to keep on the side that would be hardest to slash at with that magical knife of hers. Before long he notices that he has raced ahead of the others, save only Kade who had appeared from a side street. He merely nods at his companion, not having had much chance to know his skill set.

He pushes himself on, and knows a moment before the end that the end is coming. He reaches a hand out and clasps it around the back of the girl’s collar; planting his heels into the stone street to brace for the girl’s jerking forward with momentum.

"I suggest you remain perfectly still!" he says, keeping her at arm’s reach.

Kids are not known for their critical thinking, wisdom, or love of being told what to do, so it is not so surprising that the street urchin girl does not listen and instead flails around, trying to get out of Hermann's grip. She even lashes out with her magic knife. But for all the good it did she might as well have attacked the inquisitor with a spoon. The knife hits home with a solid blow at Hermann's sternum, but the blade is so dull it doesn't do more than leave an indent in the fabric. The girl seems just as surprised at the lack of effect her weapon has and squawks a "Wha-?" before resuming her thrashing. "Let go! I didn't do anything to you!"

Rolls

Knife attack - (1d20+2)

(18) + 2 = 20

Damage - (1d2-1)

(1) - 1 = 0

Salvia walks up behind them, Arne at her side with his hand on his hilt. She says, "Excellent work, Hermann! You are quite quick, it seems. Now, young lady, please, we mean you no harm. Indeed, we saw you fleeing and, well, I was exceptionally impressed with your ability to cut through that gate! So I thought I would ensure that no one was pursuing you, perhaps with intent to do harm? Please, now, calm yourself, lest I be forced to cast a spell upon you, and Hermann be forced to do...well, whatever it is he does to the poorly behaved individuals he usually deals with. Whatever it is, I suspect it to be exceedingly unpleasant, I am sure. Are we understanding each other?"

Arne grunts to Salvia and nods his head in the direction behind her. She turns and sees Kade and Winter approaching from behind and adds, "Ah, Kade, Winter! Your timing is impeccable."

Seeing herself surrounded and outnumbered five to one, the girl slumps. "I didn't do anything," she mutters petulantly. The clinking of small metal objects somewhere in her ragged clothes says otherwise.
Sep 6, 2025 6:36 pm
Salvia laughs, which sounds like the tinkling of bells. "My dear! I care not if you have stolen! I care about what you have stolen--that knife. I wish to know of it. Here... Allow me to demonstrate my earnestness."

She slides a hand into a pocket and produces 3 gold coins, holding them in her open palm. She continues, saying, "These are yours, and my leave to go where you wish, if you tell me. Hermann? Do you agree to these terms? We are not the local constabulary, after all."
Sep 8, 2025 7:31 am
Kade catches up, panting heavily, glad to see his companions again. "I... just... wanted... to... speak," he says between heavy breaths of air. He's getting too old for this crap.
