Ember struggles against the webbing that restrains her.

Rolls

Acrobatics (disadvantage) - (2d20L1+5)

(1115) + 5 = 16

OOC:
@WhtKnt - it's just a STR check. There's no DISADV. Taking your roll of 11 plus 1 for STR is a 12: a success!

Ember still has a move and a bonus action: is there anything you'd like her to do? Post it and I'll add it in.

Round two
(this was preceded by round one, followed by round three)

Ember struggles mightily and manages to snap the strands of spider silk, freeing herself!

Chase scoops up the goblin arrow that Aanbo dropped and turns it on the goblins, sinking the shaft into the head of Goblin Three.
Goblin Three takes 9 damage and falls out of the tree, dead.

The giant spider crawls down out of the tree and up to face Myrtha and Ember. Since it just had an axe thrown at it, the spider leaps at Myrtha, attempting to bite the burly woman warrior.
Myrtha takes 9 piercing damage and must roll a DC11 CON save.

Ever-watchful Morton is thrown off by the sudden leap of the spider; he barely misses the spider with his demonic Eldritch Blast.

Upset with itself that it missed its first throw, the spider-riding goblin draws another javelin and hurls it at Theran again. Again its throw misses the druid; the javelin passes between him and Jonel and skips off the ground into the dark woods.

OOC:
Note about the spider-rider: as he is mounted on the Large creature that is adjacent to Ember and Myrtha, the goblin is not adjacent to either Dungeon Buster. That means he can be targeted with ranged attacks but not hand-to-hand ones unless they have reach.
Stabbing with her magic spear, Myrtha pierces the chitin of the Giant Spider, then uses her Action Surge to stab it again, the spear punching into the arachnid with wet crunching noises.
The Giant Spider takes 15 damage!

Jonel moves east, running away from the flames toward the edge of the firelight, and draws upon his heartspring of magic energy to toss a Fire Bolt over his shoulder at Goblin Four.
Goblin Four takes 1 fire damage!

Able to see the dark forest with his monochromatic darkvision, Theran rushes away from the fire to support Ember and Myrtha, smashing the Giant Spider with his burgeoning staff.
Giant Spider takes 10 damage!

Up in its tree, Goblin Two draws and tracks the druid's movement, then looses an arrow at Theran.
Theran takes 5 piercing damage!
From the canopy of another tree, Goblin Four takes aim at the lone figure still at the campfire: its arrow flies at Morton. The light of the fire is too bright for the goblin, and the arrow goes wide of the mark!
[ +- ] Theran and Jonel leave the fire
Aanbo gracefully drops out of the tree, landing between the dead goblin and Arya. "Mother Arkon," he urges her, "Take cover!" Then he sprints toward the next tree and leaps impossibly high - three times his own height! - into that tree's canopy, adjacent to Goblin Four!

Arya runs behind the trunk of the tree, keeping its bulk between her and the goblin arrows.
[ +- ] Aanbo and Arya moving in the trees

23 - Ember (9/9)
23 - Chase (14/14)
23 - Giant Spider (Six) (-25)
20 - Morton (9/9)
20 - Spider-riding goblin (Five)

10 - Aanbo (27/27) 15' up in a tree
9 - Arya (9/10) Taking cover behind a tree trunk
Jun 9, 2025 2:40 am
Ember sheathes her rapier and unlimbers her short bow. I think that will take up her actions, but if I'm wrong and she can still take a shot, I'll add a roll just in case. She'll shoot at number 5 on the back of the spider.

Rolls

Shortbow to hit - (1d20+5)

(17) + 5 = 22

Shortbow damage - (1d6+3)

(6) + 3 = 9

Nebula says:
Arya follows Aanbo in the forest to find cover before another volley of arrows fall.

I thought she did last round. Thanks.
OOC:
Aanbo didn't reach the forest; the goblins attacked when he was at the edge of the firelight, but then he jumped up in a tree. Do you want her to climb that tree, or just run into the dark forest to take cover behind one?

Strictly speaking (by which I mean rules as written), this is what Arya and the other humans can see:
[ +- ] What the humans are supposed to be able to see with only the firelight
Now, I've already said that I'm being a bit more forgiving than that: you can all see the shapes of the things in the trees, which means that you can see the closest trees in dim light (even the ones off to the west, where Goblins Two and Five are). But everything beyond them is the full darkness of the Dim Forest at night. If any PC wants to take cover behind one of those first trees, they can, but they'll need a light if they want to see where they're going beyond that (everyone can see the firelight from a long way off - so putting a tree trunk between you and the fire is easy - but the fire doesn't help seeing what's on the ground in the darkness outside of the firelight).

Round two, continued...

The giant spider crawls down out of the tree and up to face Myrtha and Ember. Since it just had an axe thrown at it, the spider leaps at Myrtha, attempting to bite the burly woman warrior.
Myrtha takes 9 piercing damage and must roll a DC11 CON save.

Goblins one and three are dead. Two and Four are still 15' up in the trees. Goblin Five (the spider-rider) and Spider Six are down on the ground; the spider is adjacent to Ember and Myrtha.

just run into the dark forest to take cover behind one?
This, just full cover behind one of the first trees, preferably the same Aanbo used to climb.

OOC:
@matmaisan,@MaJunior,@KidEnnui - it is now time for Myrtha, Jonel, and Theran's turns. Myrtha's post should start with the CON saving throw.

It may be a little confusing, but I've updated the maps to indicate Arya's corrected Round One movement. Refer to the map in the round two post, which is this:

Assessing the situation, Theran quickly realizes that the spiders were the real threats here and moves to the newcomer's -- Ember's -- side, to aid Myrtha. Hefting his wooden shield and trying to keep it between himself and the arachnid's mandibles, he thrusts his staff at the many eyes on the massive beast.
OOC:
Halo of Spores as a reaction on the spider. (If it dies before its turn, then target the Goblin on its turn?) It needs a CON Save with DC 13to avoid the damage.

Rolls

Attack (Staff - Shillelagh) - (1d20+5)

(18) + 5 = 23

Damage (Bludgeoning, Magic + Necrotic)) - (1d8+3+1d6)

(6) + (1) + 3 = 10

Halo of Spores (Necrotic Damage) - (2d4)

(43) = 7

OOC:
6 squares east. Firebolt at Four.

Rolls

Firebolt (To hit, Target: Entity 4) - ((1d20+5))

(11) + 5 = 16

Firebolt (Damage, assuming a hit) - (1d10)

(1) = 1

Myrtha groans in pain, and her eyes widen at the sight of venomous ichor on the spider’s mandibles.

Despite her concern, the warrior focuses on what she knows and strikes at the arachnid with her spear.

With unusual alacrity, and determined to take it down as swiftly as possible, Myrtha struck again.
OOC:
Myrtha succeeds at her save.
She uses her attack action, hitting Ac16 and doing 9 piercing damage.
She then uses action surge to attack again, hitting ac 16 and doing 4 additional hp of piercing damage.

OOC:
@CancerMan,@Nebula - it is Aanbo then Arya's turn.
Since Arya didn't quite have enough movement to get behind a tree last turn, she can complete that movement this turn and still take an action. Or, she can change her mind and go someplace else, too.

23 - Ember (9/9)
23 - Chase (14/14)

1d6+2 : (2) + 2 = 4

Jun 10, 2025 2:21 pm
Aanbo leaps down from the tree and uses the trunk to slow his descent before quickly dashing off towards the next goblin archer. "Mother Arkon," he says as he passes the cleric, "take cover!"

Reaching the next apparent goblin hunting blind, Aanbo leaps upward for the lower branches to pull himself to the same level. Switching to the archer's language, he grunts, "Hello."
OOC:
Movement: Spending 30 feet to climb down from tree. 5 feet towards Four.
Action: Dash, move 35 feet to Four.
Bonus Action: Spend 1 ki point for Step of the Wind to climb tree and be within melee distance of Four.

OOC:
@WhtKnt,@mathias0077 - I'll update the end of round two once @Nebula posts the rest of Arya's turn, but you two can get started on round three for Ember and Chase. CancerMan has posted Aanbo's turn, but Nebula is welcome to change what's she's done for round two any time before her round three turn is posted.
Jun 11, 2025 2:19 am
Ember swallows hard and stabs at the giant spider with her rapier.
OOC:
Is it open to a sneak attack because it is engaged with both of us? I'll include a roll just in case.

Round two, completed...

Round Three
(this was preceded by round two)

Ember lunges, puncturing the spider's head with her rapier.
The Giant Spider takes 9 damage and dies.
Half of the ambushers have been slain!
[ +- ] Ember kills the spider
Attempting to knock another goblin out of a tree, Chase loses an arrow in the darkness.

Morton's dark power sends another blast searing into the night, missing Goblin 5.

As the spores begin to wrack its body, the goblin leaps forward off of the abdomen of the dead spider, trying to attack Theran with a scimitar it whips out of its scabbard. Myrtha's shield rises up.
Goblin leader takes 7 necrotic damage from spores.
Myrtha's shield blocks the first attack, but the second attack gets through their defenses and slashes into Theran's abdomen.
Theran takes 7 slashing damage.
[ +- ] Goblin leader attacks Theran
Myrtha stabs the goblin who'd been riding the spider - what seems like their captain (Goblin 5) - with her magic spear!
Goblin 5 takes 5 piercing damage!

Jonel flings a burst of fire into the darkness, singeing a branch of the tree near Goblin 2. The canopy is lush and so the branch begins to smolder, rather than bursting into flames.

Theran attempts to clobber the goblin rider, but finds that its armor is protecting it.

Goblin 2 looses an arrow at Morton, who'd dared attack their leader (and is furthermore lit up by the campfire). In fact, he is TOO lit by the campfire - the light hurts the goblin's eyes, and it misses.

Goblin 4 whips out its scimitar and tries to slash Aanbo with it.
Aanbo takes 8 slashing damage.

Aanbo strikes back at the goblin that just slashed him. It dodges his blade, but the dwarf's hand comes around and slaps it across the face.
Goblin 4 takes 3 bludgeoning damage.

Arya takes shelter in the darkness.

Arya keep watch in the bushes and will take action if a companion is down. Otherwise, she will stay there as things seems to be under control by the most experienced folks.
Jun 11, 2025 9:49 am
Chase will turn and sight in two aim, inhale, draw, exhale, release but all in one fluid motion. The quick turn must have thrown his aim off a bit and he misses.
