very cool!
It's hard to know if I am seeing the notes intended to me / how many I am seeing: when you use 'Private', there is no box around the text of a private note, for the recipient. It just looks like the rest of the post. The other players will see nothing of that private text.

If you use a Note addressed to a player, instead, its text will be enclosed in a box. The other players will only see the title of the box, and not its contents.
Gabriel's mind reels after the stange dream. It takes him a long time to calm down his breathing and pulse.
The suggestion of that deranged journal must be powerful, he tries to rationalize.
OOC:
rolling to try unmark Social - YES!!
Thank you! I just asked on the discord too; I was under the assumption that private made it private to the player concerned, and that note was more of a spoiler button thing.

In which case, you should all have a very normal post. :)

I edited my last post, adding a Private Note to the GM with screenshots of what I see in the post

Perfect! In future I'll try to remember to use Notes rather than Private.

At the first opportunity, Gabriel shows the others the journal with its baffling, yet fascinating sketches:
[ +- ] Henslowe's Journal
Aug 11, 2025 7:37 am
OOC:
the beautifully illustrated journal offers a fragmented account of what horrors Henslowe's group have witnessed in LA, apparently culminated in Vincent Stack blowing up a barn. Stack's Room 225 seems important. A hotel in LA?

Katherine now has a surname, Clark.
She seems to have had a camera, and knew about 'the clock'

"Someone of respectible artistic talent I see," Samuel notes as he leafs through the journal. Still not entirely certain what he was reading, he adds, "A trip to Los Angeles seems to be in order then, if I'm reading this correctly."
Aug 11, 2025 7:25 pm
"And most interesting from a Psychiatric point of view, too," he adds.

Nodding, he agrees "It certainly seems so. Let's check out of our rooms and get back to the airfield."
Aug 12, 2025 11:13 am
"This is crazy! What bothers me with this bookwash is that there are clearly more people out there who believe in it, dangerous people! Look at that thing! Explosives?"

Lillian takes a breath, "I'm all for a trip to LA. I would like to take look at their Tin Pan Alley when we're out there. It could help my career in the long run."

You each ready your things at the hotel, and check out. Dr Walker thinks to phone Frank at the airfield to prepare the plane - refuel, check the gauges, whatever it is he does to make it ship-shape (plane-shape?) - and you set off in the car. As you wind through the rural roads (at least the ones to the airfield are better than the ones to the Henslowe estate), you come across another car partially blocking the road, and several gentlemen stood around it. Presuming that it has broken down, you get out to enquire as to whether you can help, and almost immediately discover your error. The men, a mix of white men and some of east Asian origin of some kind, look surly, and start to jabber at you in some unknown language (even the white men!), while one pushes a piece of paper into Samuel's hands.

OOC:
You can each make a Mysterious Orient roll to try to discern what language they are speaking.

"What is the meaning of this?" he protests, observing the interlopers.

Mysterious d6 - (1d6)

Academic 3, myst. Orient 0 - (3d6)

(535) = 13

Without taking his eyes off the group of men, and his free hand slipping to his side, Samuel answers the Doc's question. "They want us to give up, Doc."
Aug 13, 2025 3:08 pm
"How on earth do they know about us?" Lillian grumbles quietly.
Aug 13, 2025 3:10 pm
OOC:
The Mysterious Orient ?!

Rolls

Academic 3 + The Mysterious Orient 0 - (3d6)

(351) = 9

Aug 13, 2025 3:36 pm
OOC:
Samuel, can we get a roll for Mysterious Orient from you too?
One of the men sneers at Dr Walker as he asks his question, and pushes him back, standing as if ready to fight the good doctor. He repeats the gibberish that the group are speaking between them, all long vowels and few consonants, and totally unintelligible, but rather obviously a threat or insult from his demeanour and the way he spits the words out, if words they are.
Aug 13, 2025 4:49 pm
OOC:
I hadn't intended to, but since you asked so nicely...

...yeah, ok. Why not.

Samuel has, surprisingly, been around many Asians of various cultures in his life - not enough to have picked up more than a smattering of words (thanks, please, yes, no, etc) - but enough to recognise when various languages are being spoken. He's not always 100%, and couldn't really translate or speak or anything, but he notices that some of the men have tattoos - thick, black-lined tattoos - and can recognise that they have Thai words in them, but the language they're all speaking? Definitely not Thai. Not close to any Asian language that he's ever heard, in fact. Almost like it's not an actual language at all, just sounds, and yet, they all seem to understand it and babble away in it as if it were.
OOC:
Samuel, how did you pick up an ear for Asian languages of different cultures?
Aug 13, 2025 4:58 pm
OOC:
Oh God, I wish I knew. Lol Um... let me consider that a bit, and I'll update this post when I have something that makes sense.
It was true that after the War, Sam got out of the Marines. However... he didn't get out immediately. He doesn't talk about it much, but he tried to stay in -- he even had a brief duty assignment at the consulate in Siam. That station was the beginning of the end of his time in service, however, as the War hung in his life like a specter and the uniform never quite fit right again.
[ +- ] Historical tidbit...

Nice explanation! Let's say that Samuel can always recognise Thai, and knows a few words in it. He's not fluent, but knows common words.
Aug 13, 2025 5:18 pm
"The tattoos look like the ones I saw in Siam, but... they aren't speaking the language," Samuel says -- quietly! -- to his companions. "I'm not sure what language they're speaking."

Through it all, he keeps his eyes on the group and his hand back just far enough that drawing his sidearm wouldn't be an issue if necessary.
