Luther will stands ready with the torch to burn the slime once Ricard gets his armor off.

Ricard tosses his magic sword away so none of the horrid goo affects it and then begins unbuckling his armor as fast as he can!

"No! Damn! My armor! Of all the things to stumble into it had to be slime!"

To be honest, the exact mechanism of a lot of old school traps is not completely clear! All the module says is "Slime Trap (lifting portcullis drops Green Slime down upon the lifter)". However, I imagine there must be some sort of recess in the ceiling that the portcullis lifts into and that the slime was lurking up there. Probably, if you look carefully, the top of the portcullis will show tell-tale signs of pitting.

And, of course, as with all traps in B/X / OSE, they are not very reliable, only triggering on a 2-in-6 chance. You just got unlucky on this occasion.

His sword safely flung away, Ricard begins frantically unbuckling his armour. All the while, the armour smokes and warms, as the acidic slime continues to corrode it. It takes a few rounds, but Ricard manages to jettison his plate mail before the slime completely destroys it. Once he is safely out of it, Luther finishes the Green Slime with his torch.

Ricard looks disconsolately at the blackened, smoking husk of his once fine armour, now utterly useless.

Ricard sighs heavily,

"Yeah, not as useful in a fight without my armor," he mumbles as he retrieves his sword, checking it for damage.

"Doubt I'm gonna find anything like that at the kobold market, nor do I have the coin to buy it even if I did."

"Let's go back then." Gabbro looks apprehensively at the portcullis. "Luther...do you think you can stick your torch up there to try to burn out any slime that's still up in that compartment? We still have to go through here...or do you all want to go around this room instead?"

Pickles looks up at the direction indicated, "Maybe when we come back, we approach from the other direction and I could put a flamin’ arrow up there."

You can safely assume, for now, that the trap has been triggered. There are no more lingering traces of green slime up there.

Ricard is moved by his companions willingness to contribute. He coughs heavily to avoid accidentally spilling any weakness water from his eyes.

Leaving the Chamber of the Sea and Ricard's smoking armour behind, you raise the eastern portcullis and head down the corridor towards the Chamber of the Mountains.

You check the first door on your left. It is locked, and your key does not fit. Listening, you can hear nothing on the other side.

The second door on your left is both locked and barred (from your side). Leaving the bar in place, you try the key and … it turns! No sound can be heard from the other side of the door.

I’ll assume you maintain the marching order described in the "Marching Order" thread, with an armourless Ricard out front, unless you update it.
