Shards of Heaven [ EDIT ]
This game has been retired! That means it's no longer being run.
There is a secret war between Heaven and Hell, fought over the the fate of humanity. One that will probably last for as long as humanity itself.
And while some angels are born in heaven, others are born to human parents, in mortal vessels, with what is called a Shard of Heaven within them. Some live their whole lives unaware of their true nature, until natural causes claim their vessel and they ascend to Heaven, while others manage to ascend during their mortal lives. And all of them possess the powers of heaven bestowed upon them to guide humanity towards a better future, as well as to curtail infernal influence on earth.
But this is a secret only few know.
Your characters lived mostly ordinary lives up until this point, completely unaware of the secret war that is fought over the fate of humanity. But that is about to change, as the shard of heaven within their soul is going to manifest itself, slowly, until at last their ascension is complete. And then, how will they cope with the realisation of their true nature? With their newfound powers and reponsibilities? That remains to be seen.
In short, this game will be about seemingly ordinary people who suddenly discover that they were chosen to wield celestial powers of heaven and protect the world against the forces of hell, in a modern, urban fantasy world. It will be taking place in the city of Chicago, starting in the year 2025. The game will be using a homebrew system, starting very simple and gradually adding rules as needed once your characters discover more of their abilities.
Each player character will start with their own personal story that will involve their ascension and the discovery of their true nature, as well as the secret world hidden from the sight of ordinary mortals, gradually transitioning into a group story about a group of newly ascended angels fighting against demons and other creatures of darkness.

Virtue:
Lastly, select one of the following seven virtues, the one your character values the most. This choice will later determine their Calling and the celestial powers associated with that.
Fortitude - The courage to confront evil head-on and willingness to fight so that others don't have to.
Temperance - The self-control to not lose track of what's truly important and the humility to keep hubris in check.
Benevolence - The drive to help others and make the world a better place.
Prudence - The wisdom to avoid or overcome danger and the good sense to think things through before acting.
Justice - The drive to see justice served, as well as honorable conduct which sets an example for others to follow.
Hope - The confidence that better days will come and the determination to keep going on, no matter what, and make a better future for yourself or others.
Faith - The conviction to stay true to your beliefs and the vision to see the higher purpose in all the pieces that make up the world.
