Crafting Magic Items
Magic items are rare treasures. Most are discovered through exploration, recovered from forgotten ruins, claimed from powerful foes, or awarded for completing great deeds. But sometimes, they can be crafted!
Crafting a magic item combines mundane skills with rare magical ingredients recovered from monsters, ancient places, magical plants, enchanted herbs, rare ores, and other extraordinary sources.
Every recipe below lists the required time, ingredients, and any necessary tools or special workshop. If all requirements are met, the item is successfully crafted.
Crafting takes time measured in days and shifts. Simple consumables, such as potions or charms, usually require a single shift. More complex permanent items may require several shifts or even multiple days. The required time may be spread across multiple periods of downtime.
The greatest challenge is gathering magical ingredients. These cannot normally be purchased and must instead be recovered through exploration. Defeated monsters may yield valuable organs, hides, venom, feathers, bones, or claws. Ancient ruins may conceal enchanted metals or gemstones, while forgotten forests, mountain peaks, and fey glades may be home to rare herbs, fungi, flowers, crystals, essences, and other magical reagents. A single adventure may provide enough ingredients to craft one or more items.
Recipes are intentionally flexible. Most can be completed using one of several different ingredients with similar magical properties. For example, a potion that sharpens a hunter's senses might be brewed from owlbear eyes, griffon eyes, or giant eagle eyes. Likewise, the hide of an owlbear, a winter wolf, or a dire bear might all serve as the foundation for the same enchanted cloak. The ingredients the party discovers determine which recipes become available.
Who Can Craft?
Crafting is a party activity. As long as the party knows the recipe, possesses the required ingredients, has access to the necessary tools or workshops, and can devote the required time, any member of the party may oversee the process. Characters are assumed to contribute whatever mundane skills are needed, while more specialized knowledge comes from the recipe itself.
Known Recipes
The GM will update this thread as the campaign progresses, adding any recipes the party has learned. New recipes are unlocked by discovering ancient knowledge, tomes or harvesting magical ingredients during your adventures.
As the party collects new components, additional crafting options for the same recipes may also become available.
