Yep, it also uses a simple ascending armor class, the main reason I like it more than a lot of the "proper" retroclones.

Cool, I down loaded the Basic Fantasy 4th edition pdf. I like it.

If we're going Basic Fantasy, I wanna be an elven ranger fighter!
Basic was just and elf class wasn't it? Just like dwarf?
Never mind. You folks are too young...

Correct. It's more or less like expert/advanced. The base book only covers human, halfling, dwarf, and elf, along with fighter, magic user, cleric, and thief. However, there's other supplements that add additional races and classes.

Excited to play. Went to DriveThru RPG and downloaded all of Basic Fantasy to be ready. I have lots of resource now. Nice that it all was free too.

Okay, so of the adventures I've looked over, there's three that reach out to me due to their set up and duration.
First, there's Tales From The Laughing Dragon. It's three adventure segments that follow one story line, so it's the more linear.
The second is The Blackapple Brugh (read: Broo). This one is more open in that there is a small base town the party can stay at while taking on the various small quests before taking on the Brugh.
Third is Morgansfort, certainly the larger of the three. Like the above, Morgansfort acts as a base of operations for the party. However, it features more dungeon exploration than the other two.
In order, they are what I've seen to be shortest to longest. All, however, are for beginner players and characters. Typically going up to 3rd levels.

What seems to be everyone's fancy?

Blackapple Brugh is great - though I've read through the module, so I'd only ask to be in the game to see how it's run rather than as a player!

Otherwise, I'm interested in Morgansfort too.

Morgansfort would get my vote.

Morgansfort sounds the most interesting to me as well.

Haha! A deluge of responses. Well, here's one more.

I'm interested. As for flavor, I'm partial to Shadowdark at the moment (no, not the same, I guess) but would be interested in trying any of the systems you mentioned.

Okay then! Morgansfort it is!
Depending on how the day goes, I'll probably have some ground work laid out.

Mmmmkay, the bare bone setup is.. uh, set up.

Seeing as how there's been plenty of eyes and words in here, it may as well serve as a recruitment thread now!
I'm still deciding on the concrete character creation rules, but I am going to be taking in up to eight (8) players. This is the max number recommended by the book.

If you're serious about joining, please post the kind of character you would like to play. Merely the concept, if you will. This will lemme know what to look at for materials and who I'll be press ganging recruiting.

Was thinking just a male human fighter. Been a previous 'sword' but has given that up.

Old school means going back to my roots. Thief. :)
Jul 30, 2026 1:07 pm
I would like to play a cleric, being a runaway nun!
Jul 30, 2026 3:11 pm
Thinking about a magic user. A cynical mercenary type of character motivated primarily by coin.
Jul 30, 2026 6:11 pm
Human Fighter please, if there is room. A quixotic kind of fellow who takes up the sword and fights honorably, hoping to become a valiant knight, despite humble beginnings.
Cheers.

A female elf for me! A warrior-mage, seeking self-redemption. She froze during a crucial combat, and a friend was killed. She wasn't blamed, but she blames herself.
