Where do you hear about RPGs? Multi Public

Where are people bumping into new RPG material? For me, it was a mix of Reddit, Youtube and Social Media like FB and Instagram. Now that I’m off social media my FOMO is better and so is my impulse buying! Though, Reddit still hits me with a lot of stuff.

Mostly it is a bit all over the place. Sometimes its when one of the actual plays I listen to try some new system that sounds really fun, and then fall flat once introduced to my face to face group :P

I also have recently gotten a gaming store in my town for the first time since the 90s (or a geek store with dedicated RPG shelf). So for the first time in my life I can impulse buy physical stuff just because it looks so damn good.

"Out there on the Internets" sums it up for me.
Either it has been on or off GP, various Discord servers, browsing DTRPG or getting some pointed ads for upcoming kickstarters on social media.

Some of the Kickstarter ads are rough! I see something that looks interesting. Click.

I first heard about RPG around 1996 (i think).
My dad found a youth rpg club, that became my regular group for almost 10 years.
Then I moved to the capital to study, found a new group, played tabeltop and a bit of live werewolf and now I'm here 30 years later

Word of mouth mainly has been the way I've heard of new releases. People posting new things coming out and sharing it wherever I'm checking and it coming through the grapevine so to speak.

Other: Kickstarter recommendations when I'm on the site. They also send me email to back new projects from people that I've backed before.

Blogs: The only RPG blog I follow is Harrigan's Hearth! Whoop-whoop!

Other: I listen to an unhealthy amount of RPG podcasts on my commute. (Audio ones, not YouTube)

Wow, I feel old. My first introduction to the concept of an RPG was from television commercials in the 70s advertising the first release of the 3d6 system of D&D.

I've been playing since 1979, when a friend got the blue book edition from his grandmother, who won it in a Bingo game. Nowadays, I live on Drive-Thru RPG (I have close to $6K worth of product from them).

Oooooh, that was my first RPG. Right outta the box! Came with Keep on the Borderlands. I don't seem to have it anymore, but I still have the box (I use it to hold adventure modules).

That was it! I don't have his original book, but after many years, I did manage to score my own copy and the box it came in!

I definitely remember that cover, but I think that my first book was green. It came out a short time before the first box set. The Caves of Chaos was a great setting. It has been used many times in multiple scenarios.
