https://i.ibb.co/ccZ2FY5k/Curse-Of-Strahd.gifCurse of Strahd is widely regarded as one of D&D 5e's best adventures, but its lack of structure and sandboxy nature mean that it can be difficult to run. Fifteen months, 2,500 game posts, and 36,000 Discord messages later, and we've completed it. I wanted to celebrate our achievement with my fellow Gamers' Planers.

A big thank you to @SJoyner72, @runestone, @Basil, and @grifter730, who found their characters' motivations and kept the energy high. It felt like they were DMing the game more than I was.

We used the 2024 rules and dabbled in the dark secrets of Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. The party is composed of a druid, a bard, a ranger, a monk, and a very traumatised teenager. We used Gamers' Plane Discord integration to spark OOC discussions.

Their level 11 characters will now attempt to reach level 20 in Vecna: Eve of Ruin.

Absolutely amazing and a great time! Truely felt like we we part of the story and not just dice monkeys. Thanks!

We did it! We escaped Barovia, and all we got was this lousy rock. It was awesome.

Way to go! Have fun, the rest of the way.
Also, don’t die. :)

Great job everyone! Surviving the early levels of Adam's games is an achievement in itself! Wish you all the luck moving into your next chapters!

Thanks to Adam, Basil, Grif, and SJ for this journey.

I've had so much fun with this game, and I love the way we've built a story together.

That was exactly what I thought when I saw a similar thread about another game run by Adam, so I jumped on the opportunity when I saw his next recruitment thread.

So deadly. By the third combat round in the game, two out of three characters had made death saves. Mine rolled a critical success and spent the rest of level 1 with 1 hit point.

It turns out that a druid, a monk, and a ranger are a really good combination when you need to run away from danger (we did that a lot).

Thanks, everyone.

I've DMed and played in failed CoS games, so it'd be nice if I had some profound insights from running a successful one. But I have none. What can I say? Sometimes the stars align, four-leaf clovers abound, black cats cross your path, tea leaves smile, and rainbows double... and sometimes games fizzle out. err... try not to kill all the PCs by the third round of combat? How's that for insight? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

A successful game seems to be a cooptative responsibility. It does not sourly on the GM shoulders or the players or the dices, but a combination of all those.
