A random question, but what would everyone's favourite location/time period be to explore in a Fallout campaign? Why? Have you played the 2d20 game? How did you find it, and how well did you think it emulated the games?

Which games is this adaptation trying to emulate though? Classic 1 and 2 or Bethesda's TES clones?

What story do you want to tell?
Wasteland survival?
Post apocalypse society?
Ghoul hunting and bottlecap collection?

Always preferred Fallout 1 & 2 myself.

I'm not telling any. I'm asking others what kinds they prefer.

I haven’t played the Fallout RPG, but I was looking at it recently! Based on reviews, it seems to cling close to Fallout 4. I’ve played 3&4 and New Vegas but I’m not up on Fallout enough to explain the differences.

If I was running something like Fallout, I might be tempted to run Mutant Year Zero coupled with some old timey music!

Usually if I play post-apocalyptic, I go for The Mutant Epoch. I would probably choose that over most other games for PA, but it is pretty lethal. Also, I'm not sure how many people would even own it, making the potential base questionable in size.

I *know* Fallout 2 was one of the best CRPGS ever made.

I still download it and play it every so often.

I haven't played either of the two, but from a brief look, I think the original Fallout PnP 1e has a better job of emulating Fallout than a 2d20 system could. Because the original PnP is mechanically so much closer to what all the rolls and leveling and the like are in the game.

Then I would highly recommend Underrail, the one true heir to the F2 legacy. Be sure to get both addons as well (or DLCs as kids like to call them nowadays), one of them adds jet skies to the game. Yes, it's that cool.

I love Fallout! A friend ran a game where I played a Wasteland Enginerr/Atom Cat wannabee.

I really like the 2d20 system. If I want more crunchy PA, I go with The Mutant Epoch.

I would, in fact, love to run a game of TME one day, but I don't know how well known the game is. Probably not enough to net me the interest needed.

That said, I won't know until I ask, so I might throw up an Interest thread to gauge.

Personally I would love to set a game between Fallout 1 and 2, where the PCs are either agents of Tandi when she's in her mid to late thirties possibly early forties as she's in the process of forming the NCR, either hitmen or mercenaries selling their services to the person that offers the contract that pays the most, as it'll also give the PCs the freedom of who they decide to take jobs from, you get the point.

For the system I'd use GURPS, I've got experience using it and I've GM'd it plenty of times before in Fallout and GURPS was going to be the original system before they replaced it with S.P.E.I.C.A.L. (As every diehard Fallout fan knows at this point.) and it was also used for the internal tabletop campaign of Fallout the folks at Interplay did before they turned it into a videogame.

I've given serious thought to posting in the Games Tavern about a Fallout Gurps oneshot to learn the system for people interested, the three pre-generated characters would be the pre-gens from Fallout 1, Albert, Natasha, and Max, as they all incidentally represent what I would say are the three major archetypes in GURPS. Albert being the Bard, Natasha the Rouge, and Max being the Fighter to use D&D terms.

I don't quite have the inciting incident devloped, only that it'd be set after the Water Chip's been returned to Vault 13 and the location would be somewhere in The Hub, with the three getting themselves involved in typical Fallout Shenanigans. I might make a real game for it if people are interested after I'm done running my currant Call Of Cthulhu oneshot due to me just preferring to only run a single PBP game at a time.

That way I can devote my full time and attention to it so I can keep the writing quality good.

as I slight aside, I love the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system, I've used it for several home brewed games.

But I often think, in the future, a game like Fallout will be like Google earth, the whole planet rendered to explore. Where would I go first?

Area 51 of course.

One day I will have the time to check this out
