Amber, the one true kingdom, the Platonic ideal of which all other civilizations are but flawed imitations cast in its shadow.

Shadows that the scions of its late king Oberon's bloodline can walk between using the power of the Pattern, able to reach worlds that--though less real--mimic their hearts' desire. Compared to residents of our own Shadow Earth the members of the Amberite ruling family are akin to gods—impossibly stronger, faster, smarter, and tougher.

It has been 100 years since the end of the Patternfall War, a blink of an eye for an Amberite. The reign of the new King Random is still relatively young and the memory of his father sacrificing himself to save the Pattern and their lives still lingers, fostering a rare sense of unity between the usually fractious siblings. The Courts of Chaos at the far end of reality from Amber appear cowed by their recent defeat, and it seems a time of relative peace. Random's rule feels stable for now, his brothers and sisters having perhaps had enough fill of the recent war to hold off on wrestling for the crown. Have they truly come together as a family, or has their incessant plotting, positioning, and backstabbing simply become more discreet?

Into this relative lull you, a member of a new generation of Amberites, come of age and find yourself immediately recruited by your Elders for a number of new mysteries have arisen. Increasingly dangerous Shadow Storms tear through the fabric of multiple realities. Has the recent creation of a second Pattern destabilized all of Shadow? Could its creator Corwin be influencing these events? Some have grown concerned and gone to study them firsthand, but they have not returned to the Castle Amber in some time, raising questions of their own.

Storms and Secrets will be an Amber Diceless Roleplaying Game campaign happening in the world of Roger Zelazny's Amber Chronicles following the end of Corwin Chronicles in the Courts of Chaos and using the rules from the ADRPG Core Rulebook. (For those familiar with the series/system, this means that the events and discoveries of Merlin's Chronicles have not happened and may not be true, and we will be excluding the additional Shadow Knight rules).

All players are fully welcome, and knowledge of the rules or series is not required. To learn more about Amber, see links at the Fandom Wiki and the AmberCon US site.

(Note: I've sent gone ahead and sent invites to those of you who responded to my earlier Interest Check, but I'm still open to adding a few additional players if there is interest).

I haven't played ADRPG in a long time, but I had a blast when we did, so I'd be interested. It's been longer since I read the book but I remember the most important (maybe) bits.

Hmm, I've never played a diceless TTRPG before, so I would welcome the opportunity!

Oh, cool, we meet again, and I am once again in good company.

Looks like an interesting group of players.

Do you know Vicky and Lcythas as well, Bullseyepsa?

I know Vicky a bit by reputation and I've played with Jomsviking before (albeit briefly). Haven't yet played with you, Lcythas or MinMin.

I'm surprised, and unsure whether to be flattered, worried, or both. Would you be willing to share what that reputation is (either here or in the private inbox)? I imagined the only thing that stands out about me is that I tend to write often-too-brief beige prose whereas the traditional PbP style is long-post purple prose.

Mostly that people seem to like to in the general forums. I can't point to anything specific but your posts seem to be respected.

eta: reputation may be an inapt choice of word but I can't think of a more apt one.

Ha, I'm sure I would have exactly the same reaction if anyone said that about me!

I've sent everyone invites--Bullseyepsa, you're is only in the mail now, sorry about the delay.

I've been a bit delayed by real life this weekend so I haven't done as much prep as I'd hoped...I'm working on setting up blurbs regarding Attributes and Powers in the forum. Feel free to PM me if you have questions about character concepts, etc. and I'll get back when I've got the chance!

One seems to be either omitted or not displayed in the game UI (neither as invitee nor as participant).

Any chance you’re still open to new players? It’s been ages since I read the Zelazny books, but the game sounds fun and I’d love to give it a try.

Hello Jeremyk--we're still getting set up and I've got an opening, so I've gone ahead and sent you an invite.

@Lcythas--I missed you earlier since you snuck in between alerts I got for other comments! I've sent you an invite as well!
