Storm Point Asylum

Jun 2, 2026 2:26 am
Morning comes quickly. Drizzle and fog dominate the landscape. You arrive at the Walcrest Estate. You find the girl in her wagon... a cage of thick black wood, iron bars on wooden wheels. She is crumpled in a nest of blonde hair and motionless as the crags loom high above the city. Your breath comes out white clouds and hangs in the damp air. Harl stands next to the wagon. Once he sees you he climbs onto the driver's seat and motions you in. You sit on either side of him, mostly out of the weather in the cab. He flicks the reins, "Hyah!" he yips, his voice a deep basso rumble. There is a space behind the seat to stow your baggage.

Jormund stows his baggage and looks back at the girl with mixed emotions. He had been excited for the adventure until the precise moment he laid eyes on her. A look of concern crosses his face and he turns away, clearing his throat.

"To see a young lady restrained thus..." He says to the other two men, shaking his head. "Is the danger she poses to herself really so great?"

A thought wriggles into his head like a whisper. Check her. Check her. Jormund shrugs off the pestering paranoia. She's suffered enough indignity without his probing.

Filbur climbs onto the wagon more deftly than one might expect from a man with ailments like him. It seems he's a bit of an experienced climber. He throws his bag with belongings next to Jormund's and sits with the driver.

"All the be'er fur us, Oi'd say." He replies to Jormund's remark "She ain' hidin' no weapons, right?" He asks in his usual paranoid like fashion. "Oi've 'eard stories 'bout prisoners su'enly shankin' a guard ou'a nowhere." He takes a quick peek at the girl, seeing little besides a mess of hair. "Specially the mad ones."

"But this ride seems sturdy enough." He knocks on the wood to gauge its resilience. "Sooner we get there, sooner we get our pay."

He then turns to Harl. "Been workin' fur Lady Walcrest fur long, then? Wha's she like in 'er spare time?"

Harl looks at the road ahead. "What I do is my business. What she does is her business. If we gotta fight, I protect her first, then myself. Best be about what they hired you for," he says. And continues to drive the wagon.

You cross a few foothills, the Stormkeepers looming high, majestic and ominous all at once. You see the dirt road that winds up the side of one of the smaller mountains. It still fills you with trepidation.

You hear the girl moving in the wagon, the clink of chains is the telltale sign.
She speaks in a raspy high pitched voice,
"You’re all killers too. I know the type. Liars in the skin of angels! I’ll escape, you know, escape and hold your eyes open as you bleed. Won’t it be wonderful? Asleep you’ll go, and my appetites only begun! Asleep you’ll go, eyes open, and the beetles will have their feast! Hahaha! Harl...undo thes chains...please Harl, I promise I'll be a good girl. Please Harl."

Harl keeps the wagon steady as you begin the incline up the dirt road. Dark clouds linger. The rain subsides and a blanket of dark grey moves slowly across the sky.

OOC:
Does any of her ranting mean anything magical, as far as Jormund can tell?

Not a spell, not a curse. Just plain words.

Jormund glances back at the girl as she rants. Her words surprise him, but now he understands. He shakes his head and sighs. "Perhaps her incarceration is justified, after all."

The feeling of trepidation coming from the small mountain has him thumbing the red crystal. He gazes at it with scrutiny, and his eyes dart around, looking for anything suspicious. "Best keep our wits about us, lads. Something feels off."

Not the talking type. Filbur thinks after Harl's reply.
"That's quite a threat fur someone in chains, eh!" He grins at Jormund after hearing the girl's message.

He looks up slightly worried about the dark clouds. "Think we shoul' be stoppin' to make camp? It migh' get stormy."

Jormund eyes his crystal and again the sense of unease feels strong. Fudge is restless and looks ahead as if to say something is coming. As the barred wagon totters up the mountain road, dark clouds gather. The path is a narrow, stone-cut roadway with a cliffside drop here and there. Agni stays quiet mostly.

Then, around a tight bend, large rocks have fallen in the way. As Harl steps forward to clear the blockage, a pack of red-eyed Road Rats leap from the broken stones and attack!

Phase 1

Rat 1 tries to BITE Harl - make d20 roll equal to or less than your defense
Rat 2 tries to BITE Filbur - make d20 roll equal to or less than your defense
Rat 3 tries to BITE Jormund - make d20 roll equal to or less than your defense

Rolls

Harl Defense 6 + 3 (greaves/leather vest) = 9 - (1d20)

"Myrddin's beard!" Jormund curses, eyes wide as the rat lunges forward to attack before he's had a chance to prepare.

Rolls

Defense - (1d20)

(1) = 1

Filbur tries to predict the rat's instincts. As a former rat catcher, he knows a lot about their behavior.
OOC:
Can I use my animal training skill here? (Which is 8)

Rolls

Ok, you'll need to roll 8 or less on a D20.

Jormund is up next. What is your action?
Jun 18, 2026 4:32 am
"Oh, blast it all!" Jormund courses, avoiding the rat's sharp incisors. "Can we never get the drop on the enemy?"

The rats, being in melee with the party, are too close for his carefully researched fireball spell. "Confound the sorcerer who proclaimed this foolish spell as necessary!" He thinks. He sees that his friend Filbur is being accosted by the vermin and reaches over to cast Armor on him.

Rolls

Cast - Armor - (1d20)

(3) = 3

That was a nice gesture and it worked!
