War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth a war, is much worse. When a people are used as mere human instruments for firing cannon or thrusting bayonets, in the service and for the selfish purposes of a master, such war degrades a people. A war to protect other human beings against tyrannical injustice; a war to give victory to their own ideas of right and good, and which is their own war, carried on for an honest purpose by their free choice, — is often the means of their regeneration. A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever-renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other. - John Stuart Mill
Warning: This campaign will feature graphic violence and frank depictions of suffering and atrocities. This is an unfortunate reality of war, and I do not wish to gloss it over. If you would find this upsetting, this game is not for you.

Note: Though the actual war was less forgiving than our current society, everyone is welcome in this game, regardless of race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. Discussions of current political affairs will not be tolerated in this game! We all have our opinions, please keep them to yourself.
These are the stories of the men who served in World War II. While fictional, the events and places are meant to evoke a sense of realism and the feeling of actually being in combat. This is not about troop movements and strategy. This is about the people whose lives were affected and changed by the war. Role-playing is favored over roll-playing.

The following Setting Rules will be in effect:
Gritty Damage: Whenever a Wild Card takes a Wound, roll on the Injury Table and apply the results immediately (but roll only once per incident regardless of how many Wounds are actually taken).
Hard Choices: The GM and her Wild Card characters don’t start with Bennies, but every time the players spend one, it goes into her pool, where it can be used for any of her characters. If this rule is in play, Jokers no longer grant Bennies to either side.

Rather than just blindly accept the first five people who see this post, I am going to be more selective. I want each potential soldier to submit the following character details to me through this thread.
Age
Hometown
Background
Reason for Enlisting
Personality
Fear
Hope
