Varos will follow to the traders and will also agree"Northeast sounds good to me."
OOC:
I also purchased 3 healing potions when we first got to town.

OOC:
You will need a boat, since it's mostly swamp. You might also consider a guide.

These "rare items" look mundane to me. mole thinks to himself but in voice just asks So what special equipment for swamp travelling can you offer. You know about swamps more that I do, but I hear some use poles or pillars to allow a person to stand at a height above the water. Is that rumor truth? \
Mole has no idea about boat being required to travel a swamp.
OOC:
There is whole chapter on Hiring Followers in S&W, i guess we may want to hire at least one - a guide in this case. Have sufficient money I say. Never done that in my DnD games for last 10 years, though.

P.S. Where I live swaps are terrain you can't travel with a boat,
[ +- ] like this
but I gues we are rather talking
[ +- ] this type of swamp

OOC:
I believe it's a mixture of both types of swamp, sort of boggy in some places and almost like the delta of a river in some places. These boats are flat bottomed and normally use a pole to guide them in dense shallow areas.

I see. Guess PCs will realize that soon and have to come back. Unless Tosha will educate us.

So while at the Riverman Varos will ask Tosha"What is the terrain like to northeast where the old ruins lie?"
May 24, 2026 5:44 am
"Mostly marshland. You got saltgrass and canals that run deep and some what are so shallow you'd think you could step into that mud and walk a bit, but you don't want to do that unless you know for sure there's some bedrock below, or you'll end up in mud up to your waist and maybe can't get out. You'd be better off with a guide. If you head over to the Biting Bitters, you'll find two of me mates over there. Cumwold, and Therin. I'd trust them two with me lock box. They know the lay of the land and are most likely the only one's brave enough to aid ye. That and a bit of good luck," she says.

Mole leaves a silver to Tosha thanking her for a good advice, but isn't buy anything.
Once out of the shop Mole will strongly advocate hiring a guide: The biggest value of the guide is for locals to trust we are not running away with Ordin's money, but actually saving them.
May 24, 2026 10:53 am
Once outside Varos will agree with Mole"Shall we head to the the Biter and grab one last meal and talk to her friends about the job?"
May 24, 2026 2:49 pm
Biscuit: "I am always up for some food. And maybe a beautiful lass."

Benford bristles a little at the idea of a guide- the swamp is his domain, after all- but Mole puts it in a way that strikes Benford as rather brilliant.
"We may not be Fenguard in shining armor, but we shall be heroes yet!" He says to nobody in particular.
He follows his companions back to Biting Bitters.

You arrive at the Biting Bitters just in time for the roasted pig to be cut and served with baked beans and fluffy hot rolls. The Ale is cold and the food is good and hot. You see the two old guys they've pointed out to you as Cumwold and Therin. They are in their cups and laughing up a storm.
May 26, 2026 9:55 pm
OOC:
you guys ready to talk to the guides or you plan to let Benford guide you?
May 26, 2026 10:14 pm
Biscuit will ask around for Cumwold and Theron.
May 27, 2026 12:29 am
"Yes, let us invite them over for a drink."
May 27, 2026 1:47 am
Both of the men comve over with mugs in hand and sit with you.
"Oi lads, I be Cumwold and this 'ere be Therin. Pleased to meet ya mates," he says and shakes your hands. Therin does the same.
Therin, looks at you all and says, "So...how can we help ya lads? I'm all fer killin' goblins, but I'm not so good with a sword, more of a fisherman and a trapper meself."
May 27, 2026 8:34 pm
Biscuit: "Please, let me buy you both a drink. We don’t need you to fight. We need you to guide."
May 27, 2026 10:30 pm
"Erm...whaddya know. Well, we can do that," says Cumwold.
"And we can also do with another drink. It's near lunch anyhow," says Therin with a wry grin.

"By the way, where we headin'?" says Cumwold.
May 28, 2026 5:19 pm
And I'm no fisherman... wait actually we did killed some ugly big fish, you won't believe! mole is happy to drink with guys and tell some of their old adventure scary stories, but try to sound it like easy kill.

Finally mole opens the map and points out both our current points of interest A) Weaping Hollow B) The old ruins
What do you say? We need more than guide, someone to set up this expedition for a reasonable price.
May 29, 2026 2:41 am
They both look at the map and then at each other.
"Only a fool would go the old ruins," says Cumwold stroking his beard.
"I agree, and only the foolhardy would approach Weeping Hollow," says Therin rubbing the tip of his nose with his index finger (you notice there is no nail, the tip of his finger is gone.)

"We'll do it," they say in unison.
"5 silver a day, each," says Therin.
"And a small retainer, let's say 10 silver each," says Cumwold.
"That'll get you our services," says Therin.
"And our boat, i.e. transportation," says Cumwold.
"Aye, transportation through the swamps," says Therin.
