Hello Happy! I'm actually just starting to get into VtM. I don't know what edition I like best, I actually just applied to my first game a few days ago. I've always liked representing my trans lesbian self in my TTRPGs but I feel nervous doing it in a game where the GM and other players might not understand those issues. I hope you have a lot of fun gaming!
Hello Morphling!! Welcome to the World of Darkness, I hope you enjoy your time playing.

I totally understand what you mean. I remember taking a creative writing class where another student was very ignorant about my genderfluid/trans identity that I was putting into my work, and it was an uncomfortable experience. It's okay that people are still learning, but it can be a lot for us to explain. But I play with a lot of queertrans folks IRL, and that makes me feel really comfortable being myself.

I like being a GM for this reason, I want queertrans players to feel comfortable being and exploring themselves in my games.

Have you already begun forming a character for the game you've applied for? I'd love to hear more about the VtM chronicle you're joining!

Yeah I probably won't get in, there's a lot of competition for a newbie that's just beginning to understand the lore. It's called Seeds of Anarchy and its set in New York in 2005, in a NYC that's quietly being contested by the Anarchs and the Camarilla (PCs are Anarchs). I applied with a homeless queer teenager who had only recently just gotten off the streets, only to be embraced by an old Gangrel who had been stalking her for years and thought she'd be a good companion based on her days of being houseless and feral. I wanted to make her explicitly trans too, but I didn't, I just find it hard to do that in a game where I don't know many of the other players while also avoiding turning my written backstory into Trans 101.

Oh, I adore Anarch-focused chronicles. My home game is focused on Los Angeles by Night, a stronghold for the Anarchs.

That sounds like a compelling character concept, I like how your PC is on the margins of society as a homeless queer teenager--it makes sense that a Gangrel would take an interest. I have a soft spot for the "Low Clans," I think their marginalization in Camarilla society resonates with my identities.

I get it. If/whenever I start posting interest checks, I hope that you apply. I'm considering running Werewolf: the Apocalypse before VtM again, but I'm always glad to have other trans people in my party!

I definitely will. I haven't even begun digging into werewolf lore, but as far as fantasy monsters go, I prefer werewolves to vampires anyway so I'm definitely interested.

Welcome Happy! I'm curious about your thoughts on learning about the WoD and VtM systems through the Choice of Games medium, a text-based multiple choice game that tries to imitate some of the TTRPG systems.
Oh, wow! I had seen Parliament of Knives and its NPCs on White Wolf Wiki, but I didn't realize it was being run on Choice of Games (and the creator was adapting VtM for that medium.)

I think it sounds pretty interesting--off the top of my head, it makes sense that the player is limited to choosing between 3 clans. Sounds best for the medium and a good way to learn VtM systems. I'd have to play it for more thoughts, but I am intrigued.

Have you played Parliament of Knives?

Welcome Aboard!
Hi, witchdoctor! Thank you for the welcome!

Absolutely, I'm a longtime fan of historical fiction (books, movies, TV shows) so I'm familiar with balancing that sort of verisimilitude.

Well, V5 calls itself "a game of personal and political horror." V5 was my entrance to the WoD, so my perspective has been colored by that experience. I think that V5 especially considers the vampire and its relationship to/how it symbolizes power and predation--because of that, those of VtM are often tied to, and exploring, their relationships to power and hierarchy, especially historical systems of power.

My first V5 game was run by a Black man who was exploring the Roaring Twenties. One session involved a lynch mob, forcing the co-players to act. I vividly remember the dread and stress at the table--none of us wanted to sit back and be complicit to the violence unfolding. I think that experience showed me how powerful TTRPGs could be in exploring historical trauma.

My home game is centered on two historical events: the Watsonville race riots of 1930 (which targeted Filipino immigrant men) and the Zoot Suit Riots of 1943 (where white Angelenos and servicemen assaulted mainly Mexican-American youths.) I am particularly interested in the former event as a Filipino-American--and it's a way of educating my co-players and friends about American history and sharing a piece of history I'm deeply connected to.

I hope that somewhat answers your question--I know that there are rules regarding discussing politics in the forum, I have a lot of thoughts on this. I suppose that the alternate history of VtM interests me greatly as a student of American history, there are a lot of interesting and creative ways to explore slavery, colonialism, segregation, etc. through the game.
That's a pretty well rounded answer and fertile ground to explore in WoD games. Power dynamics are at the heart of most WoD/CoD games. Those themes can often end up being prickly and run afoul of 'political themes' but are important to explore.
It's interesting that you're bringing your experiences as a Filipino-American into play. I think that's a great way to give others a glimpse into what it's like as someone from a background not commonly encountered in the TTRPG space. I'm excited to see what you bring to GP!

Hi and welcome to GP!

Nice to see this welcome thread buzzing, and over WoD/CoD! I think the last person tempted to get a V5 game off the ground was myself, and I'm still looking to revisit that soon, just to give that edition a chance as compared to V20. We'll see. Hope you find some good games here!
