Gasp!
Myra turns and sprint towards Evelyn Lockwood rooms. Her rooms have their own door out to a terres, looking over the gardens. A favorite spot for Myra and her grandmother to practice Tai-Chi.

This way! She call to the others as she rush down the hallway.

Startled at the sudden shift, Kyle pauses too ensure the door is locked right before turning yo follow Myra.
Jul 25, 2026 1:29 pm
Kyle was just steps behind Myra as the Lockwood girl dashed down the hallway. Myra's own room was upstairs, but Evelyn's was towards the left wing of the manor which kept its original architecture, a stately room with large french windows that opened out into a garden terrace. As they neared, the two of them could hear the jiggling of the door knob and the tapping on the door from the inside. "Myra? Are you there? Something's wrong with the door I can't open it!" Was Myra's grandmother trapped inside the room? Were the terrace doors also sealed stuck. Why?
Jul 25, 2026 3:06 pm
Learning from his recent experiments with the house Kyle takes out his phone and uses the camera as a focus for his efforts and he reaches out and touching two points at once with to gives Myra's efforts a bit of help. Kyle imagines his magic flowing into Myras aura and through her to let her efforts to open the door guide his magical energies manifestation as the actual power flows into the door , knob and frame.

Animate Bones & Remains : •• Matter / •• Prime
Once the majority of a corpse has rotted away and all that is left is inanimate matter such as bones, the Matter Sphere (along with Prime) is capable of animating them and giving the mage control over their actions.

Wren followed the two as well. Now standing in front of the locked or otherwise unmoving door, she puts her ear onto it to grasp what might be keeping it shut.

Just listening to remnants of magical energy.

From upstairs, Joe hears Myra’s call, and forces himself to leave the interesting-but-not-urgent room and head down to join his friends. It sounds as though they need help…
OOC:
It’s not technically true in the current timeframe, but for ease of reference can we consider that particular upstairs room is Penny Leung’s room?

Kyle found that his attempt to physically aid Myra fell flat. He wasn't quite able to affect the energies of the living with his newfound abilities. However, he found that he could, if he wanted, affect the material of the sealed door, or its lock, or the wall around it, or the floor below. He could even cause them to change their state by manipulating the rules of physics, converting matter to energy.

Wren, true to herself, immediately attempted to read the room. It wasn't a mundane stuck door, but it was magically sealed, that was undeniable. A ward? One of the wards of this strange house? A ward designed to protect its Sleeper resident in times of magical trouble? There was so much Myra didn't know about her own house! Evelyn was safely inside, her voice didn't sound like she was in any danger. But she was certainly trapped within. There had to be a way to release her.

This was the scene Joe arrived to find, having missed the mysterious conflict at the main entrance: Kyle, Myra and Wren was outside Evelyn's door, and granny was inside asking for help. If only he even understood how his mother was connected to the Lockwood's, he might have insight into the workings of the house. Penny might have known.
OOC:
I see the successful rolls Psybermagi, but you'll need Life if you want to boost Myra's abilities. Matter can affect all material things. Forces affects energy. Matter + Forces can cause matter to explode, or turn into energy (depending on rank). Matter + Prime makes the matter magical (eg a magic sword rather than a mundane sword), for Forces + Prime, Prime summons the energy, and Forces manipulates it.
Wren reads the kind of magic given off.
ThetaSigma, it is at least certain that Penny stayed in the room at one time or other. :)

OOC:
The idea was not to affect Myra, but to try and avoid triggering the house defenses by tying the magic to her. Still an experiment.

Kyle was wary of 'upsetting' the house again like he did upstairs. Instead, he sought to assist Myra to 'tell' the house to release granny Lockwood.
OOC:
Oops I misread your intention! Great idea, and the correct one, smart Kyle! Myra is key to not triggering the defenses, whereas if Kyle, Wren or Joe did something, it might. Alright, we need Runekyndig to try something, and I'll add your successful rolls to that attempt according to the rules of assisting magic.

No worries. Bad communication = bad spell casing
I will endeavor to more fully and clearly communicate actions and intent
arete( Matter * 2 )*focus(Phone + Myra) -(Chanty defense - ) = (open door) 😁

Myra places her hand on her doorknob, but does not turn it yet. She speaks under her breath:
This is my home.
I have already shown myself to be its protector.
Now let me protect its inhabitants.

Then she turns the doorknob, drawing on the prime energies and her connections to this place. She is the guardian, and must be able to open all doors.
She feels something crack in her mind. Something that has been there for years, and she never noticed. Like a pain of glass that suddenly has gotten a crack, making the glass visible. This crack is not here, but somewhere else in the house.
OOC:
As I wrote "open all doors" I thought that the obfuscation ward on her parents' private offices should be findable, perhaps even accessible

Not totally wrong, but more like Myra's parents were both mages, and they have warded the house.
One enchantment puts a powerful suggestion on Myra to be a good girl, a proper host and all in all a perfect noble woman. Something her brain rebels against when in school.
Another ward, that just cracked, is the one that prevents her and her grandmother from noticing 2 doors in the house. Doors leading into her parents' individual studies.

The sense Myra got was as if something was finally passed down to her. A responsibility. A duty. Growing up, and in her parents' absence, she had simply thought of her grandmother as the matriarch of the lonely Lockwood house. It never crossed her mind that things would be otherwise. Interestingly, she had turned sixteen not so long ago, and being in her senior year she did contemplate her young adult future more and more.

Now, Joe, Kyle and Myra understood so much more about the nature of wards, magic that kept things away, and magic that opened pathways through space and time. Joe had a glimpse of his personal past; somehow this manor was connected to him too. And for Myra, it felt that her eyes were opened once again to what her home was. Grandma Evelyn's room was like a safe room (or panic room), designed to protect its sole Sleeper inhabitant should the house come under magical attack by sealing itself. Now that the threat was over, someone had to release the ward, a simple matter. Now Myra understood how to do it. She had simply to lay claim to her legacy as owner of Lockwood manor.

Interestingly, the imagery of the breaking glass came from Kyle who gave form to visualise what the barrier was. The glass cracked. Myra reached for the doorknob and turned it. The door opened into a much bewildered grandmother wondering why she was inexplicably trapped in her own room.

Outside, the mystery person who attacked them would have had plenty of time to make their getaway, for everyone was preoccupied with what was happening inside the house. It was potentially possible to go after them, but difficult to predict what would happen if they caught up with them. There was also Wren, who had arrived in an emotional state. Her phone had been buzzing with calls and messages but she had ignored them. But for now, inside Lockwood manor, they were safe.
OOC:
What else do we need to play out the rest of the night here? Not everything is resolved of course, but things will unfold later (nothing else from me tonight, unless someone does something interesting!).
Random thought, if Wren wants to spend the night here, it's possible.
Aug 1, 2026 2:50 pm
Wren, once the pressure released, looked at her phone. Her father? Kieran? Her mother? - She was not quite sure what to expect and neither whether she was prepared for them
OOC:
I like the idea of a staying for the night. Will just wait to see what her phone had for her before she asks.
Aug 1, 2026 2:57 pm
The five missed calls were from her home number. The messages were from Kieran.

Sure, no problem Wren. We have a couple of guest rooms.

Myra turns to her grandmother
There are linnen and all that in the rainbow rooms, right?

Myra smiles at Wren and explains. We have 3 guest rooms, each with a colour scheme: blue, green and red.
Aug 2, 2026 7:30 pm
Wren nodded with relief. "Thanks Myra." And with a smirk on her face, she added "Either color will work." before she typed into her phone again.

ill stay overnight

lets talk tomorrow

"So if I have this straight, when Wren arrived there were moths trying to get in? I’d like to say ‘nothing to it’ but that seems unwise, and if someone followed Wren here, probably a good idea she does stay. But that raises the question of is it safe for anyone to leave? If everything is ok, I should probably head home before my family worry; but what’s everyone else thinking?
Two things Myra; first, thanks for an interesting evening; second, there’s a room upstairs which gave me some odd vibes when I was trying to find my way downstairs after the lights flickered; good odd, not bad odd; I would swear that room had some connection to my mother, like I could feel she’d been in there. Do you know anything about the history of that room?"
OOC:
Joe describes Penny Leung’s room as clearly as he can.
