Think what abilities that class offers, then read the different feats. Feats are a fighter's best friend. plan things out because as you progress you'll need prerequisites.

If however there is a mention of Taoism or the Arcane mysteries, he simply won't stop talking about them. He is totally autistic about it.
Urban Ranger votes for the city
City is fine.
https://youtu.be/aPNuhzHHP4Y?si=GCyUMAk9YaXx83Uj his unit theme that got destroyed.
Their motto first to enter last to leave every faithful.
Estate is fine, that or straight to city, no preference.
Cheers all.
Play what you want, just be aware about the ranger
Lion scratched a surprisingly skillful drawing of the cities gates and canals. And then hills, he made great emphasis of the Yellow River.
"It fell in 26 days. And it was my idea that took it." Lion smirked, there was a keen ruthlessness in that. His tone of voice had supreme confidence in his claim. It also boasted he did not care if they believed him. Between the Yellow River and the canal he scratched a deep gouge into the dirt. "Oh sure they flogged me for speaking to the general in terms of strategy. But when seeing the genius in my suggestion he set the sappers to work within the hour."
"Just two years later I killed my first man. Leung Yu, the nephew of Xiang Yu. He was my age, and favored by Guan Yu." Mentioning the deity and Lion subconsciously touched the bow which lay on the log next to him. "It took me my entire quiver to unhorse him." He was incredulous at that, and also sounded amazed. "Even still he very nearly killed me, with three of my arrows inside him."
Lion had taken his armor off, and revealed under his shirt a deep scar on his left pectoral muscle. "We fought across a forest and up a hill. Eventually, I managed to catch his footing, tied him with my meteor hammer and crushed his skull." Lion chuckled at the memory. "Even hear an overripe melon hit the ground falling from a high table." He asked rhetorically and mimicked the sound by puffing air through his pursed lips. It produced a wet, almost pulpy squishing sound. "I rode straight back to camp with his corpse and horse. But damn she was a magnificent steed. Pity though..."
He trailed off, grimacing, almost snarling at the memory. "In Linzi, our seige fell apart, our supplyline was cut, and my Flying Column was trapped in a snow storm. After five days of no food and only snow to drink White Raven collapsed. She died the next day. All our horses did. The column had no time to bury them either. So we ate them."
"Worst part of it is that the very next day, we came through the storm and Linzi had surrendered without a drop of blood spilled."
The memory had brought a darkness to Lion's countenance. He lifted the khumis to his lips, and proceeded to get drunk in silence afterwards. It was more than he had said in ten days. It explained two things:
The first was why he was so damn angry.
The second was why someone as young as he was had an an epithet that named him a "Pillar of Our Land."
The Fu Dog in his lap snored loudly and turned its face into the shelter of Lion's groin.
Can be related to one of the three Clan lines.
1.Clan Leader; Gong (Duke) Xian Yu and wife Duchess Xian Qing (Your surname is hers)
2. Hou (Marquis) Xiao Yong and his wife Lady Xiao Xiu (Your surname is hers)
3. Hou (Marquis) Xia Gang and deceased wife Lady Ang (Your surname is hers)
Remember that favored enemy is an 'evil' you won't compromise with. You might scout them to determine how you plan to attack them, but you won't be polite.

The older two couples are in their late 40s so they'd be uncle/aunty.

Wondering why you are going to the Capital? Because the Emperor wants a reception with the clan representatives who will be frequent participants in the court and securing estates around the capital. (He's also sizing you up/determining loyalty because several noble families are protesting him for allowing 'lesser' people gain power in the government.)

If you roll low, you failed the state test and your parents have to bribe the education directors to 'fudge' the scores.

How was it Recieved?

Apparently Lion is, exceedingly good at his job.

We seem to be lacking a healer.

1. Assessing this plot. Lumber to either repair or build homes.
2. Wagon/cart with animal to take processed grain to market
3. Maybe check capital city to recruit families to move in. One couple can't harvest enough to be profitable.
4.Maybe buy/make mill to grind grain into flour.
5. Toll is 1cp per person.
Remember, the entire estate has been without nobility providing needed resources for 20 years, imagine the conditions now.
Spitballing here. Sorry, a bit out of my element right now. Prolly just a matter of getting started.
For instance the inns supports are rotting away, the roofing material is provided but the support material is not.
There are going to be a) three tiers of support wood we can find and use, and b) three tiers of carpenters we will find who can do the work.
Say we find the carpenter, the tiers of carpentry may well be the same man but the man needs lunch.
We can feed him mixed grains from the fields. Unwashed rice. Or river-washed rice. Obviously the river washed rice yields the best result.
We also will earn xp for the more tasks we do.
That is just my 2 cents.
However I understand splitting the party will make things harder to run...what's everyone's thoughts?
@sarge1967
Trying to set expectations here. Eastern RPGs usually don't use timers because they want us to experience everything the writers put time into making.
The Taoist precept "The Journey is more important than the destination."
In the west we have mastered energy. In the East they have mastered time.
What game do you want us to play? I have no preference.
I will point out, in every Eastern RPG. The heroes are set apart before their journey begins. Thinking the oldest RPG on earth Guijian "Legend of the Heavenly Sword" the heroes leave Heaven after their first major character choices(level 3 in D&D)
I view these upkeep tasks as the tutorial. Then when we finish everything the gloves come off.
YMMV
Not as much as, I have crafted multiple storylines; The rebuilding of the Estate is important only as much as it becomes the group's HQ and revenue maker as the story progresses. Starting from the ground allows the group to build it the way they want. I only placed the resources on the different estates. There are storylines on here, and the group has the choice in how much they want to dive into any or all of the different storylines. The estates has two political storylines (being introduced to one already) but there are always choices.
The Taoist precept "The Journey is more important than the destination."
Otherwise, the group has the freedom to pursue or not pursue different plot-lines that they encounter. There are benefits and consequences of each choice. So yes, there are similarities but there are also going to be stories more suited for Asian scene.
Let us tie up as many loose ends as possible before departing.
I am of course OK if you want to speed run it as well.
