Investigator Creation

Everyone is pretty much done, but I'm putting this up here anyways. We can use it for all future investigator creation rolls.

I still exist!

I only managed to get to chargen properly earlier today as that project I had to write slowed everything down. Taking the 80 60 50... array or point buy as my first option, I realised I had to think about the character I want to play and that paralised me a bit. Decision paralysis is normal for me when starting a new game I'm afraid :-/

Anyway, I wanted to post to say I'll be along shortly. I have Friday afternoon off and the weekend so I should be able to catch up pretty soon.

Sam.

BTW, did everyone make their characters available for us all to see? Personally I like that and I think McB asked to do so, but I'm new to the site and I don't hink I know how to look at them. I was thinking of filling some gaps...

No need to rush on character gen. We can always do one-off rolls at the base stat until you have everything done.

You should see a link to "Characters" along the red bar at the bottom of the Thread. Click on it and you should be able to view everyone's sheet. If it comes up blank, then they haven't shared properly.

Please, everyone click on the book next to your character to turn it Red

Ok, thanks. The red bar is so far down the screen I hadn't noticed it.

Occupational Skills from the Time to Harvest template (College of Language…)
Prof skills (EDU*2)+(POW*2) = (65*2)+(60*2)=(130+120)=250
Allocation:
History 50
Language(Other) Spanish 30
Language(Own)
Library Use 30
Listen 10
Art/Craft(Art History) 20
PhysEd pick one - Climb, Dodge 15, Fighting(brawl), Jump, Swim, Throw
(SCHOOL)
Archaeology 70
Classic Language Nahuatl? 25

Spending points in languages is massive guesswork at chargen - I'm spending 50 here because it makes sense for the character when I have a feeling it may never be Relevant and I could spend it instead on Dodge to 75 and be a Matrix-like cool dude.

I don't understand how allocation of points to Credit Rating works at chargen. It says it depends on occupation and then gives you a range?

Sorry, I saw that EDU needs to be 80+ for a graduate student, having to revise my numbers....

Don't forget, you also get INTx2 for personal skills (page 36 Keeper rulebook).

Languages are always tough. I am not opposed to leaving a language open and taking it when it makes sense. For example, you can put 40 in a language X. As we play, we realize we need someone that can read Arabic. So, you choose Arabic as your Language. It's a bit of cheating, but nothing worse than spending 40 points in something that doesn't come up.

Also, Languages are rated as follows (page 67 Keeper rulebook):
- At 5% skill a language can be correctly identified without need for a roll (you can always hire an interpreter).
- At 10% skill simple ideas can be communicated.
- At 30% transactional requests can be understood.
- At 50% skill a person is fluent.
- At 75% skill in a character can pass for a native speaker of a foreign language.

Credit Rating is shown as a range in the Occupation, I think 5-10% for a Student.
That means you have to invest 5 to 10 skill points from the Occupational skills capital (the EDU x4) into Credit Rating. That in turn determines Cash, Assets, Spending money.

I was out of sorts yesterday, sorry for the delay.

Thanks for the help folks. I'll do languages as X then, cheers. And yes, I was doing the first set of skills before the extra ones from INT.

@virtualbasement -

Are you okay with Jo and Ellie being cousins?

As it happens, I rolled for Significant Person and got a fellow investigator - I thought that could be Ellie.
I then rolled that the reason is that I wish to prove myself better (!) Maybe Ellie has always been the golden child in the family?

Let me know if some or all of that is ok. If none, that's fine too.

EDIT: @McB - I gave Jocelyn some points in track and rifle, imagining that she had done some hunting with her father. Then I rolled as a special item a weapon - maybe that rifle from my pa?

You mean Ellis? No, I don't mind at all. If you mean Ellie, that would be @MrCyan

Gah, problema with similar names on the phone. I meant Ellie, yes.

I’m good with them being cousins.

Any thoughts on this?

Yes. That works. I only ask that you be realistic on when you’ll have the rifle. It could be in the trunk of a car, but you won’t have it slung over a shoulder at school.

Thanks.
Sure, I figured it'd be stashed somewhere in her room. I doubt she has the money for a car.

Looking at the table in the appendix of the Keeper's Rulebook (p. 403) and focussing on the rifles made in the USA (so not the Lee Enfield for example), the .30-06 bolt action rifle is one that was used for hunting.

If you think that one is too much, another one that was used for hunting in the US (of small game) is the 30 Lever Action Carbine.

I see the .22 bolt action rifle was also used for small game or vermin.
