Black Iron squats beneath a broken overpass, the last intact span of concrete on a forgotten side road. What was once a small town has been mostly destroyed—burned-out buildings, collapsed homes, and rusted vehicles half-buried in dust. The overpass marks the entrance and the boundary: beyond it lies the open wasteland, and beneath it clings a rough kind of order. Black Iron survives by trade, salvage, and rules enforced only as far as they need to be.

The town is run by a man known as Red Top, named for his thick head of long red hair that makes him easy to spot and hard to forget. He is strict, but fair, and Black Iron runs because he makes sure it does. You live here now, working for him in one way or another—employees, runners, muscle, or hands-for-hire. How you came to Blackrock is your story, but for now, you answer to Red Top.

Black Iron’s biggest advantage—and its current problem—is a makeshift metal processing plant built from scavenged machinery. The plant is down, crippled by missing and broken components. Red Top needs it running again. He tells you the parts can be found at the Boneyard, a massive junkyard out on the road. Your job is simple: go there, recover the repair parts needed to fix the plant, and bring them back. Any scrap metal you haul back is yours to sell or keep—so long as the repair parts make it home.

In front of you stands a short but stout soot covered man with bright reddish orange hair and a long scraggly beard of the same color. The only word that comes to mind when seeing his outfit is "trash". Though he owns and runs this town.

Red Top (in a gruff beard smothered voice): "Ah’uch… You sun-bit do nothins. I’m given’ ya four days of road eats and wet. I’m letting ya borrow, BORROW… The Mrs, she's got plenty of room for the parts and extra, a grave maker up top, front and side skin. She's heavy so don’t push ‘er.

He slides a small bit of what you can only assume is rabbit hide into the side of his cheek as he eyes both of you. Then pulls out two pieces of paper with what can only be the town's emblem.

"Take these. Give ‘em to the Head, He’s the Trademaster. Fifty for each of ya, spend it however ya want but I need you dry and sharp in the morning. Meet me by the town wet-hole early. Now git, I’m sick of looking at you."

"Oh! Hot dog! Fifty!" Cletus says excited. He turns to Foggy and says. "Let's go see what we can get for this." And turns to head for the Trademaster.

"A pleasure as always, Red Top," Foggy said with a bright smile. "I assume you have a list of the specific parts the smeltorium needs written down, or... no? I suppose I'll just remember them, then. Mind like a steel trap, me." He tapped his temple, then turned the gesture into a salute by flicking it forward from the aviator's goggles nestled on his brow. He stepped back quickly before Red Top blew his top, and extended his gait to catch up with Cletus. He liked Cletus Conroy; he had his feet on the earth while Foggy's head was sometimes lost in the clouds, but he was wasn't rooted to one place. They were both wandering souls, deep down.

Foggy was a smaller man, no taller than Red Top, whippet-thin, dark-skinned, with a narrow chin and wide brow that made his head almost as top-heavy as his vehicle of choice. He wore a leather jacket lined with fur, the uniform of a flying-machine soldier in a long ago war, back before war meant the Final War fought with uncaged atoms, and under that a long dark grey coat, a slightly tatty red silk vest and pants that were stained with oil and much patched with whatever wool and leather was available.

Foggy pulled out the piece of paper Red Top had given him and held it up to the setting sun, turning it over and over in a gesture he'd seen old-timers do with currency from the World Before. "You know, old friend, it strikes me I don't know what fifty Black Iron scrip buys these days. A mug of moonshine? A girl for the night? A fully-loaded rattlegun? I guess we'll have to see how generous the Head is feeling."

"That's what I'm saying." Cletus says as he taps Foggy on the chest with the back of his hand in Camaraderie.

He wore a truckers ballcap over his bald head, though he still had long blond hair on the back of his head.
His jaw was square like someone put a block of stone in it and both his jaw and nose were misshapen from fist fights he had been in.
He wore a tank top, overalls and a vest, the layers helped hide his potbelly and extra arm which he kept close to the holstered on his chest that held the .38 special revolver.

We're heading to see the, uh, Head.

OOC:
Yes. We're heading to the trade master.

As you walk through town headed towards the trade masters building you travel past a bustling market circle. All sorts of goods being traded. You hear shouting and look over to see three men holding one man to the ground.

"No fighting today my friend, not in the round about anyways."

As the man calms they let him up and dust him off. You notice as rugged as everyone looks, they seem to make sure the peace is kept. You see your destination two buildings down, the towns not as big as it's reputation.

As Cletus enters the trade masters building he tips his hat to the trade master. "Mornin trade master. Red Top gave us fifty to spend here. What kinda stuff might that get us?" He asks as he starts looking at the different items on display.
Jan 24, 2026 10:02 pm
"what the hell are you talking about son?? You know good and well I only take in barters. You Gimmie somethin' and I give you credits for spending. Ain't nothin 'to buy here.

Now Red Top said what?"
Jan 25, 2026 8:16 am
Cletus holds up the paper Red Top gave him, to show the Trade master what he was talking about while continuing to look at the items on display. "He gave each of us one of these. He said it was worth fifty."
Jan 25, 2026 8:37 am
"And they say wastelanders are more well-mannered than bartertowers, on account of how a wastelander who doesn't mind his tongue may get a scrap-axe lodged in his skull," Foggy remarked cheerfully, watching the locals subdue the ruffian. "Not so! There's civilisation if ever I saw it. Why, that fellow still has both his teeth intact! A perfectly amicable confabulation."

Once they stepped out of the muddy street he let Cletus speak to the Trademaster, standing behind him and nodding enthusiastically.

Cletus picks up a roll of mechanics wrenches and a box of .38 special ammo, and asks. "How much for these?"

OOC:
Are you still at the trademaster? The trademaster only takes in items and give out credits. You have to go to the market to buy goods.
Jan 26, 2026 7:45 am
OOC:
Then why did Red Top tell us to give the currency vouchers to the trademaster?
Jan 26, 2026 8:04 am
OOC:
Oh. Sorry, i thought we had to talk to the trade master to buy/sell stuff.

Dirigible says:

OOC:
They are just vouchers. You give them to him and he gives you the actual credits to spend that the voucher is worth.
Jan 26, 2026 7:42 pm
"Cash us out, please, oh master of trade," Foggy declared, slappping his scrip note on the brass tacks of the trade-bench. "We are rich in Red Top's faith and eager to indulge in wine, women and song."
Jan 26, 2026 9:57 pm
Cletus looks at the trade master again. As he also puts his scrip on the counter. "Yeah, what he said."
Jan 29, 2026 3:42 am
You walk out of the Trademaster's with a pocket full of coin. Coin being any small metal scraps with the emblem of Back Iron imprinted on them.

Headed towards the Market area you see a circle of put together dusty buildings circled around a rather large and probably deep well. There's vendors selling food scraps, fide parts and anything else you may need. You also notice to your right that the makeshift tents and scrapped together buildings continue on past the market. To the left is a large factory and a couple large texts scattered about.
