Stalker05 says:
After listening to the extensive discussion and planning, he was surprised when the captain asked his opinion. He was deep in thought trying to imagine how the next operation will play out, so he broke himself from his brooding and looked up. "Captain Halsson, I think what everyone has discussed is a very well-thought-out plan of operation. If you need any ideas from me, then I can suggest that if you want, I can talk to locals at the Startown and pose as a traveling medical professional in need of money. If I can have a fake ID, then I can probably interact with the local people and gather necessary information about what exactly is going on there. However, I suggest that I am not trained in covert operation, so I will need backup help if they detect my cover." He stopped for some time as his logical brain finally caught up, and he realized how dangerous the plan was. So he swallowed his words and then blurted out, "Ah...never mind, captain. This will be a much riskier mode of action, and I will become more of a liability than an asset. Forget my naive ideas."Captain Halsson turns her attention fully to Dr. Shone, giving him the same measured consideration she gives tactical assessments.
"Doctor, that is a well-reasoned analysis." She nods once, not curt—acknowledging substance.
"I would not characterize the approach itself as risky. A standard IISS emergence with full active sweep and declared transponder is expected behavior. It projects legitimacy, not aggression. Risk comes from concealment or ambiguity. We are doing neither."
Her fingers shift slightly on the tabletop. "You are correct on the larger point. We do not know what is occurring on the ground. Speculation has limits. Conditions in orbit will inform the next decision. Conditions on the surface will refine it further."
She looks around the table briefly before returning her gaze to him. "Meaningful assessment will not occur until we establish orbit and begin working with local Alejia authorities. Whatever structure of governance is currently functioning—formal or informal—must be engaged directly."
A slight pause. "Until then, we prepare for multiple outcomes without committing to any single narrative." Her tone remains steady. "Good thinking. Keep applying that framework once we have real data in hand."
