Nimble Miners of Phandelver

The Triboar Trail winds through rolling hills and scrubby forest, the kind of lonely stretch where travelers learn to keep one hand near a weapon and the other on the reins.

Today, though, the sky is bright, the breeze calm, and your wagon creaks along with an easy rhythm.

You were hired for simple work: escort a supply wagon to Phandalin, meet Gundren Rockseeker, and get paid.

But Gundren and his friend, Sildar Hallwinter, rode ahead yesterday with unusual urgency. Gundren practically vibrated with excitement—talking around some secret he wasn’t ready to share. Something about an "incredible discovery," that would change everything for the Rockseeker brothers.

The Meta
This is a story-driven play-by-post short campaign that adapts the beloved Lost Mine of Phandelver adventure to the Nimble ruleset. If you’ve never played Lost Mine before, that’s fantastic — join us and discover its mysteries fresh!

Veterans of the module are still welcome, as long as you can keep player and character knowledge separate. I’ll also be adding new twists and changes along the way, so even familiar scenes may play out differently.

Expectations
Collaborative Storytelling: This is still Lost Mine at heart — but we may reshape events, NPCs, factions, locations and side stories together.

Learn by Doing: I’ll introduce Nimble mechanics organically as they come up in play. You don’t need to study anything beforehand, but if you’ve never played Nimble before, giving the quickstart rules a quick read or seeing the YouTube video below to grasp the basics is appreciated.

Tactical: Expect fast, snappy encounters emphasizing positioning, reactions, and creative use of environment. We will be using battlemaps —visual layouts of the battlefield that show terrain, obstacles, and where everyone is—so tactical choices feel clear and meaningful. I’ll also encourage making use of high ground, cover, and flanking; clever play with these elements will earn you Advantage on tests. And be warned: your adversaries will try to use those same tactics against you.

High Stakes: Actions have consequences. You die when you have taken 6 Wounds (unless you heal or have an ability that changes this number). If your hero falls, that’s the end of their story. Game over for you. We might team up again in a future game, but no respawns or restarts here. If there's a TPK (Total Party Kill) or if only one player remains, it's also game over for all of us.

The Game System
We are using Nimble 2 — a fast, tactical fantasy TTRPG. A quickstart is available online for free (here), and the full rules are not required reading to play.

We will also use some optional rules and clarifications to streamline our PbP experience. They are available in our game forums — here.

If you’re curious about the mechanics ahead of time, I’m happy to answer questions. You can also check the video below, for a Nimble review:

Content Guidelines
We’ll keep things PG-13. No sexual content, no violence against children, and no real-world prejudice. The X-Card and other safety tools are available.

Public Forum
This game will run publicly on Gamersplane so others can follow the story.

Required Software and Resources
None. Everything will be in Gamersplane and I won't use Discord for this one.

AI and optional Tools
If you wish, you may use AI or spellcheckers to review and suggest improvements to your posts, help you write sections you're struggling with or don't want to do, or generate portraits and other images.

Post Frequency
1 post / day frequency. If you run into an IRL time crunch from time to time or if you slow down during weekends, that's understandable, but please let us know beforehand.

Player Experience
No prior knowledge of Nimble or Gamersplane.com needed. I’m more than happy to help. However, new PbP players often discover the format isn’t what they expected, which can lead to stalled scenes or dropped games. For the sake of keeping this campaign flowing smoothly for everyone, a few months of prior PbP experience is required.

Applications
I’m looking for 2 - 3 players, and selection will not be first come, first served. I’ll review all applications and leave this thread open for a few days.

To apply, please reply with:

- Your PbP and Nimble experience (new players welcome!).
- Your usual posting frequency and whether 7-5/week is sustainable for you.
- A short character concept — class, vibe, or archetype.
- What excites you about playing *Lost Mine of Phandelver* in Nimble and if you ever played it in DnD.

Example:
Quote:
I’d like to play a former caravan guard turned wandering fighter, someone practical and rough around the edges. I’ve played 5e before but Nimble is new to me. I’m excited for ..
Character Generation
We’ll be using standard Nimble 2 character generation for this game, with no homebrew options. You’re welcome to build your own starting hero using the core rules during session zero, but pre-generated characters are also available for anyone who wants to jump straight into play — all you will need to provide is a name and a class, and I’ll take care of the rest.

Welcome All
Everyone’s welcome here — LGBT+ players, marginalized folks, all backgrounds. Let’s support each other and celebrate awesome characters, brave stories, and epic moments.

I would be interested in trying out Nimble, and besides, Miners of Phandelver is an adventure I have never played/read.

I can do 7 post pr week, but 5 is a more comfortable commitment.

I would make a Paladin / Oathsworn. A tiefling that have sworn to fight for the little guy. A Robin Hood mixed with CR Jesper kind of energy.

I would be interested to play. I have been playing PbP for over 10 years in different sites, including here in GP. I usually post every week day, if at all possible. I seldom post on week-ends. I am used to playing human characters, even in fantasy games. For this one, a magic user could be interesting (to learn the rules of Magic), maybe an apprentice wishing to gather enough fame and gold to get to a more reputable master?

I have played the Phandelver campaign in its entirety in real life with the 5e ruleset, even if we left some locations aside (according to the DM). I am very interested in learning Nimble, and discover the few places I don't know about the setting at this occasion.

I'm interested in trying Nimble! I've been playing PbP since 2021 on different sites. My usual posting frequency is 1/a day due to work but I can most more frequently on Monday and Tuesday

I'd like to play something like a Cleric, Ranger or even a Fighter type. Edit: The berserker looks fun

I've never played or read Lost Mines of Phandelver in 5e.

Hi, htech. Interested! In specific:

- PbP experience is reasonable. I've been here since 2024-07 and 1175 / 1297 posts are game posts, if that matters.
- Nimble experience: None but willing to learn on the job.
- Usual posting frequency is 1+/day excepting weekends, where I can usually do 3/weekend but may double up Sunday instead of Saturday. There are holidays and work peridods where my weekly output may drop.
- I started a 5e mines of Phandalver with Arrcher101 but sadly that petered out. If my rolls allow, I'd be interested in refreshing that character. If the link doesnt work, it's a young (emotionally immature) rogue/swashbuckler with thoughts (delusions) of becoming a bard. Imagine Cyrano de Bergerac meets Danny Kaye from the "Court Jester" but lacks a (any) sense of maturity.
- Having worked with you as a GM before, I'm less excited about the setting and rules than I am about being able to feed off of your creativity and game mastering.

I've done LMoP as DM more than once. One of my players is now running (finishing) module as DM and I'm a player in that game. It is surprising how much role-playing fun this module backbone allows even if there is no secrets to discover.
As experienced PbP DnD I am excited to learn the system that seems to be a wonderful match for PbP.

I'd like to play wizard acolyte following his vision to Reconsecrate the Defiled Altar (background as per LMoP PC, but will use Nimble mage pre-gen sheet).
I may be slower through session 0, but 7 posts per week during game-play is cool with me.

Thanks everyone for the interest! I really appreciate all the applications.

For this game, I’m going to recruit @avraham and @runekyndig, who I’ve played with before, along with @kwll, who I haven’t had the chance to play with yet. That gives me a nice mix of returning and new players to my games.

Everyone else, I’d love to keep you on a waitlist in case someone drops out or becomes inactive. PbP being what it is, that’s always a possibility, and I’d be happy to reach out if a slot opens up.

Thanks again for the enthusiasm, and I hope to game with the rest of you soon!
