An ancient Undead Lord has escaped his shackles, and only you can prevent his reign of terror!
🗺️ Follow an adventure that takes you to unbelievable temples both ancient and forgotten.
🐉 Test your strength and cunning against the servants of Orcus and other dark gods.
🌴 Explore a variety of environs from thick jungles to frigid ice sheets and all in between!

What starts with the most innocuous quest imaginable will quickly reveal itself to be but the start of a grand adventure. You will search high and low for the ancient secrets of restoring a holy artifact, one that must be reforged to wage battle in the eternal struggle between Good and Evil. Be not afraid, for your quest is true and just.

Using the Hyperborea 3e system we will explore this campaign using a streamlined and flavor-packed hack of AD&D. This campaign is intended for first level characters to advance all the way to twelfth, which just so happens to be the level limits in the system!

In this game you will experience:

🛸 A game system inspired by Weird Fantasy pulp fiction.
⚖️ A balance between role-play, combat, and exploration.
👨‍⚖️ Neutral referee who prefers intuitive rulings to strict rules.
🐉 Evocative combats with life-or-death stakes!

Come and join me on this once-in-a-lifetime story! Here's what other players have said about me:

🎙️ "What really stood out about him as a gamemaster was his ability and willingness to allow player character actions and decisions to matter."
🎙️ "Charles runs flavor rich games that are always full of surprises. He pivots fantastically between different tones, and he understands the rules of each system without handcuffing the game to them."
🎙️ "Charles is a FUN, patient, and supportive GM who invests time and effort into new players without letting the table become a classroom."

The Pitch
What starts as a chance encounter to assist a small village will quickly reveal itself to be the beginnings of an epic quest, for the roots of the world are old and some things were better left dreaming. An ancient evil awakens and it is up to you to rebuild the artifact that can be used to slay it once and for all! Into jungles and mountains and deserts and marshes will you have to traverse in order to accomplish this impossible task. To fail is to doom the world.

The campaign in question has a linear narrative, but is rather open-ended in how you approach and accomplish your goals. This does require a sense of adventure and a willingness to face danger. It'll be fun, I guarantee it.

Trigger Warnings and Themes
This game will include triggers related to violence, kidnapping, sacrifice, character death, and slavery; many of these are to be condemned. The world in which you find yourself is old and dying, and many forgotten secrets wait just around the next mountain pass or deep in the jungle. Undeath and evil cults are a major premise, and so much of the baggage associated with those apply.

This game WILL NOT include the following triggers: sexual assault, violence against children (though it may against some young adults), suicide. This is an incomplete list, and will include other triggers as decided by the group.

To survive, you must work together! For this reason, your character must have a willingness to work together even with those who might be diametrically opposed.

Game Duration and Pacing
This game expects players to post once a day, five times a week. I do not expect the game to move on weekends, as I am usually busy myself. As for the duration, this is expected to be a long game, running the course of years should you stay with it.

This game will use a private Discord server to encourage speed and ease of play. Hyperborea 3e has some rules that are benefited by a quicker communication, such as combat options; the server will help with this.

Who May Apply
This game is open to any who are interested in this chaotic experience. The table is intentionally inclusive, and will not tolerate any racism, sexism, or any other -ism. Safety is paramount. I reserve the right to prevent any from joining should I feel they are not a good fit, and to remove any players who show the same.

How to Apply
Simply reply here, or reach out on the GamersPlane Discord. If you are interested, please use a quote or reference from your favorite epic tale (or epic metal song) in bold. If you have questions, I am more than happy to answer before you make a decision. I will utilize an arbitrary method of choosing who joins, which may be the product of the Lords of Chaos. I will select five players, or six if the mood strikes me.

Happy New Year! I think this game looks like an amazing new year resolution :) I've never played in the Hyperborea system, but glancing over the rules it seems an interesting adaption of the old school D&D rules. Sounds like fun.

Happy New Year! I've never played Hyperborea, but I have the 3rd edition player's manual somewhere on my computer.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the Dice Gods have in store for me.

Happy New Year! What a treat! I've had Hyperborea 3e since the Kickstarter, but other games have always bubbled up ahead of it. I am very interested in joining this campaign, if you'll have me. There are so many flavourful classes, it will be hard to choose. I typically play a thief, so I think a Legerdemainist would be a cool class to try out.

I do love some good, gritty sword and sorcery action, so count me in.

We could die upon the tooth
But the thrill of just the chase is worth the pain

Never played Hyperborea so far, but Runegraver and Shaman seem a nice diversion to the standard choice.

When you are old enough
To read these words
Their meaning will unfold
These words are all that's left
And though we've never met
My only son
I hope you know
That I would have been there
To watch you grow
But my call was heard and I did go
Now your mission
Lies ahead of you
As it did mine so long ago
To help the helpless ones
Who all look up to you
And to defend them
To the end

Many great applications! I'll give folks another couple days to apply, and make my decisions probably Sunday night.

I'm also interested in Hyperborea 3e. Currently running a campaign, but want to experience the player side as well.

Alright, I've invited @MrCyan, @Alordis, @Azryel, @DrifterDwarf, and @McButterpants! You should have invites on your main screen, or be able to accept the game here.

To the rest of the applicants, I'll keep you all at the top of the list in the event of player attrition. Thanks for showing interest!

Thanks for the update! Hope the game goes great and everyone has a blast. Because I didn’t make the cut this time, I’ll be recruiting for another fantasy game here—maybe we’ll cross paths again.
