Imperium Security visits MISS FORTUNE

Leilani took the lead of the first officer, though she was never going to squeal to the IS.

"As you mentioned, we had some reactor issues, took all of our time making sure the ship didn't disintegrate in Jump space." a good lie stuck to the basic truths, just leaving out the bits you didn't want mentioned

"So much that I don't have much recall of the passengers. Sorry I wish I had more to tell you!"
Nov 27, 2025 4:54 am
"Tamm keep attention on Engineering. Tamm spoke to the passengers only at boarding and again at departure, and nothing struck Tamm as unusual."
OOC:
Should we roll to determine if the Officers believe us? Here's mine just in case.

"So, you are saying these two seemed to be simple passengers, nothing to draw any notice? That is what happened..., nothing that is. Nothing out of the ordinary?

"They did not even seem nervous? During your equipment malfunction, they didn't respond at all?"

(They will want a response from all three of the crew present, and will direct the questions seperately and directly if needed.)

(Said Ma has so far evaded any attention, working on 'trades' from her stateroom. But that leaves Tharrok, Leilani, and Llogan.....)

"Did either one happen to mention where they were headed once off your ship? Or any mention of contacts, friends, or family here on Fornice?"
Nov 27, 2025 7:08 am
Tharrok listens to the questions carefully, taking care to keep his tail relaxed and his wag to remain without change. "They behaved as most well-heeled humans do, good sirs," he said. He forces his internal monologue to remain quiet. Despite this, he cannot stop one thought from coming to mind… *If they hadn’t reacted at all, how would that have been normal?*

Tharrok takes a sip from his drink. "As for their reactions during the malfunction, they seemed appropriately concerned, but they followed crew safety instructions. The wife, I recall, did have a momentary episode of hysteria and was offered an anti-anxiety. But that was completely understandable. The sir had informed us previously that she had very little, if any, space travel experience."

The pilot seemed fairly blasé about the questions up to this point. But it was time, he felt, to push back a little. Being polite was one thing. It seemed to be the grease that allowed bureaucracy to function. But he felt he had to assert some level of dominance if his answers were to be respected. But carefully. Maybe something LC would ask… "Would you care to share what Imperium Laws or local ordinances these two have run afoul of? This seems like an out of the ordinary line of questioning for a normal newlywed couple traveling off world."
Nov 29, 2025 4:19 am
"If the couple are trouble, they certainly didn't cause any here."
Nov 30, 2025 11:49 pm
"Hmm, well. We thought perhaps they'd mentioned something about where they were headed at the very least."

Getting nothing from that...

"Well, we can say that they are persons of interest to Internal Security. That does not necessarily mean they have broken any laws, you understand. Our assignment is to find them and ask a few questions. They could have information important to ongoing operations. These operations are, of course, of a confidential nature. So I am afraid we cannot share anything more at this time.

"If however you hear from them for any reason, please do contact us as soon as you can.

"And if we find out something more and can ask more specific questions we will return. Before you depart again.

"Good day to you. The Imperium depends on regular citizens doing their part to keep us all safe and prosperous. Best commerce!"

The two have nothing more to ask (at this time) and will depart unless anyone wishes to offer up more!

Tharrok shrugs helplessly. "I am sorry we could not be of more assistance. They only mentioned that they were honeymooning and visiting ancestors.". Tharrok stands when the two agents do. "Please, leave us your card. If we do hear from them, we will let you know. Would you like to pass on any messages to them? If we hear from them, that is."

Tharrok will walk with the agents to the airlock to make sure they don’t have any additional questions. He will watch them leave, closing and locking the airlock hatch. Turning to the rest of the group, "Well, now that the fun is over, we’ve lost the follower signal from LC and the Santanocheev delegation. Tamm, can you ready our own air/raft and arm yourself discreetly. We may need to mount a rescue mission.". With that, Tharrok turns and heads back to the bridge where he fights to reestablish comms with LC.

Agents Forstin and Yassur look dissapointed. But accept that the crew seems unable to assist. "We may return later in the week if something turns up that you might be able to help with. Clarification. Details. But for now we will be on our ways. Thank you."
Dec 3, 2025 1:33 pm
Tamm stands with the others before falling in step with Tharrok and the officers.

"Tamm, can you ready our own air/raft and arm yourself discreetly. We may need to mount a rescue mission.".

He gives Tharrok a nod, then heads to his quarters to retrieve his snub-nosed revolver and weighted gloves. Never one for fashion, Tamm pulls on a T-shirt, bib overalls, and heavy boots. Afterward, he makes his way to the hangar to ready the air-raft for a quick departure.

The air raft is on Standby as the warm, humid air flows through the hanger as the doors slowly open.

Being in a service meant that sometime had to stay behind, even though Leilani really wanted to find out directly.

"Watcha need me to do boss?"

Still, she was a team player, and there lot of work needed doing on the ship.
Dec 4, 2025 2:16 am
"If we have to go, lock the ship down. No one in or out until we return. But at the moment, just keep working on the Engineering systems. I’m headed back to the bridge to see if I can reestablish contact."

Tharrok does just that, working the radio as well as any personal comms using the Computer to assist.

With the departure of Imperium Internal Security, attention turns to the "lost contact" status of LC, Bronz, and Kayla. The personal comm units are solid and dependable mid-Imperial tech. Being out of touch is a genuine cause for concern.

Fornice is about average among Imperial planet-states, ranked '7' on the TAS travellers scale. Carrying firearms is prohibited however, with the exception of sporting arms for recreational purposes. Departing the relatively small downport of Port-au-Prince would normally require passing through a security check-point even if using Miss Fortune's own air-raft. However, your prior experience here would lead you to believe that getting hidden weapons through a checkpoint would not be particularly difficult.

OOC:
Per Leilani's "stay behind" status. I believe this has been noted previously, but to clarify. There really is no reason to leave someone behind. The ship's computer driven security should be considered as highly effective at preventing unauthorized entry. And starports down to 'C' rating are also very secure. The odds of having someone breach ship security while in an established port, even a secondary facility such as Port-au-Prince, are very small. And I am not too keen on GOTCHA GMing! So..., please do not take a player-character away from roleplaying opportunities because "someone has to stay with the ship". I really want to encourage participation!

I am quite hoping that the Comms Outage would resolve itself before we end up trying to blindly try to fly out and find the "lost" shipmates.

I am assuming that the entire crew knows the coordinates of the route of the delivery &/or its destination so we won't be going out blind if we have to go help the delivery crew. I cannot see why LC would keep it a secret or at least radio the coordinates back to Miss Fortune.

Of course, open comms would be the best.

From the other thread;

[comm: THARROK | MISS FORTUNE]
"…preparing to depart for a ‘rescue mission’…"

LC flicks his comms back open, voice dry as a recycled air scrubber in high summer.

"Miss Fortune, this is Rains. Tharrok — appreciate the initiative, but cancel the cavalry. We’ve got escort now. If something goes wrong, we’ll let you know."

A beat. LC adds, under his breath, but still keyed to shipboard open channel…

"I mean really, what could possibly go wrong?"

He closes the channel with a calm he doesn’t quite feel and watches the storm-churned clouds ahead as they’re led deeper into the estate’s lands.

LC does send the current coordinates of the grav-truck as it speeds to the Estate. Continuously sending the location...continuously....every 5 seconds....continuously....

Tharrok had just tucked his Autopistol into his waistband when comms crackled to life.
Muns says:

Tharrok paused, his tail beginning to wag. He flips the comms switch. "Copy cancel the cavalry. Standing down here." He sighed thankfully. Then he sighed again. "hopefully, Mr. Murphy doesn’t hear that." he whispered under her breath as he flipped the comms signal closed.

"Ok, guys. Stand down and let’s get back to work on the drives concerns. The Captain finally got back through to us."

Tamm lifts one eyebrow while the other tightens, a rare expression that betrays how much the comms failure has rattled him.

He seals the hangar doors, powers down the air-raft, and slips his revolver back into the lockbox beneath his bed. With that done, he returns to his workout.
Dec 8, 2025 9:01 am
Tharrok notes the way Tamm is disturbed by the circumstances and finds a moment to speak to the Engineer alone.

"Hey Big Guy, something on your mind?" Tharrok keeps a neutral expression, yet with a cocked head and a stance that says he is truly concerned about what Tammi’s feeling.
Dec 8, 2025 5:32 pm
"Tamm fine. Comms failure is strange but ok now that they are restored."

A typical answer from the stoic man.
