Dirtside Fornice. Ground Sub-Port 2-A (Port-au-Prince)

Nov 2, 2025 11:36 pm
The transit in from the 100-diameter limit is completely routine. Starport 'Control' routes you through three different "lanes" to get you down to Downport 2-Alpha with minimal delays.

Tharrok makes the most difficult part (atmosphere entry and 'flying') seem easy, with barely a thump and a shake to show for it. Maneuver drives function normally and vector-thrust maintains attitude and direction without a hitch.

As you near Downport 2-A, local air-traffic-control takes over and helps you into a direct approach. Soon the port is visible on the screens, the exterior zoom-cameras giving the bridge-monitors a good look from nearly 50 klicks out.

The port is small; only 8 'public' hard pads, with another 8 at some distance for the First-Bank-of-Fornice. 4 of the hard pads are occupied: A standard 100-ton Scout/Courier on one, a pair of Type A Free Traders, and then a 600-ton Subby on the other. You are directed to land at pad "8".

A heavy rain is falling from leaden skies as you make 'final', but the landing is smooth as can be.

"Welcome to Two Alpha, Port-au-Prince" the controller says cheerfully. "Weather is stormy and warm, with rain and fog in the forecast for the next couple of days. Then clearing to our normal tropical wonderland for the rest of the week."

Once the MISS FORTUNE is safe aground, the Port Captain's office contacts you with the usual paperwork; Customs is next, Immigration too. Your passengers are eager to depart and get on with their own business.

Thessa Ting with her 'smart' robotic case is ready to go. "Yeah, I'm behind schedule here. I've got to get these documents out to the Santanocheev estate. Supposed to be a couple hundred kilometers north of Port-au-Prince. I'll have to rent an air-raft. Funny thing about this contract; they want me to hand deliver; no intermediaries whatsoever. They were real firm on that point.

"I think I'll have to find something lighter than this leather coat, though. Have you looked at the weather report? Says its 40-degrees (Celsius, of course!) with 99-percent humidity. What a drag."

----------
Aepheon 'Shaky' Telom isn't carrying much luggage either. He retrieves his weapons lock-box from the ship's locker. "Lucky for me you came straight to Port-au-Prince. My client's here. Some famous surgeon..., can't go into details but they need an armed escort for a time. Should be an easy contract." He double checks his permits and such for presentation to the Customs and Immigration department.

----------
Adriana LeFrontaine still looks pale and unsteady on her feet, but is supported by her older spouse Terry. "We're ready to depart. And thank you for all your help and your discretion. We have arranged with Adriana's 'family' to provide housing and a ride from the port into the Arcology. So we won't trouble you further." He hands 'Mama' Said Ma an old-style envelope that seems rather thick and heavy. "I promised a good tip, you remember. You deserve it, with our thanks."

Engineering already knows that Downport 2-A has only a small maintenance department on hand. Unless they want to try and get the First Bank of Fornice to help! But even the small engineering crew should be able to do what you want. Of course, you can see about contracting a 'traveling' maintenance-company to come over from the main downport, or even from one of the orbital stations. Probably won't cost much more...

The local engineering/maintenance crew would probably be quickest. Looking at their public page, it seems the work proposed (including replacing the Tri-Spacial Controller) is within their abilities. (L.C. realizes that this company is an affiliate of "All Star Ship Services", part of Smugg Orney Enterprises. Perhaps you can get discounted rates!)

Mama reports: "Low Passenger 'thawing' is almost complete. Kayla and I will have them up and walking within the hour. Everything looks optimal...No Problems!"
Nov 4, 2025 6:40 pm
Tamm uses the "Get a Quote" feature on the local maintenance company’s website. He describes the job — replacing and calibrating the tri-spacial unit — and asks for the price of "sooner rather than later" & expedited services.

LC Rains – Dirtside Briefing / Downport 2-A (Port-au-Prince) – May 28, 1115

The Miss Fortune settles on Pad 8 with the soft thud of a cat landing on a pillow — smooth, controlled, and blessedly uneventful. Through the forward viewport, rain streaks the glass, tropical humidity fogging the edges. LC unbuckles and stands, rolling his shoulders as the ship powers down to idle hums and blinking status lights.

"Well, gentlemen, ladies, and assorted clever life-forms — we’ve landed. I was almost disappointed not to explode on final descent."
He scans the pad cameras and frowns slightly at the empty tarmac.
"Though I do notice the distinct absence of our welcoming committee from Santanocheev Medical. For a crowd so insistent on ‘no intermediaries,’ they’re being remarkably… intermediate. Let’s hope they at least remembered to meet us at customs. Would be dreadfully embarrassing to deliver a high-priority package to an empty lobby."

He turns back to the assembled crew, voice raised just enough to carry over the soft patter of rain on the ship's hull.

"Alright, folks — here’s the order of business. One: passengers off first. No incidents, no lingering goodbyes. Two: standard cargo offload follows, clean and by the book. Three: we’ll need a two-person team to escort the special shipment to the Santanocheev Estate — volunteers first, or I’ll assign."
He glances around at the crew, eyes narrowing slightly but not unkindly.
OOC:
LC is looking for volunteers before he picks two for the escort detail. A PC to oversee this portion would be helpful.
"Once we’re clear of passengers and freight, Engineering takes over. Tamm, you’re lead on the tri-spatial controller. Confirm parts, verify calibration, and make sure we’re ready for departure before the bureaucrats have time to sniff us out. Copy?"

He gives the crew one last look, the edges of fatigue tempered by that familiar dry glint in his eyes.

"Good. Let’s make this quick, clean, and dull. And if anything isn’t dull.

He switches comms to passenger service as the disembarkation begins.
"Miss Ting — I understand you’re bound for the Santanocheev Estate as well? We’ve got a rather delicate item headed that way ourselves. Might be smart to coordinate travel from the customs portal — safety in numbers, and all that. Especially in this lovely weather."
He offers her a small, wry smile — the kind that says he’s half-joking but means every word.

He turns toward Engineering’s comm channel, voice steady.
"Tamm, for the drive maintenance — use the local affiliate of ‘All Star Ship Services.’ They’re part of Smugg Orney’s outfit, which means we might actually get the work done properly for once. I’m fairly certain I’ve got a coupon somewhere — possibly stapled to my overdue loan paperwork."

A moment later, LC flicks open his personal console and types a short encrypted message, addressed to Smugg Orney Enterprises, Fornice Branch.
Quote:
[Private Transmission – Encrypted]
"Smugg, it’s Rains aboard the Miss Fortune. We’re dirtside at 2-A. Need expedited work on a cracked cryonic tri-spatial controller. Your affiliate in the starport, I bet, would appreciate the work — but I’d appreciate a word in their ear to make sure it’s done right and on time.
And yes — I’m invoking the ‘friends-and-family-discount’ clause of our illustrious arrangement. Drinks on me next time. – LC"
Transmission sent. LC turns as the LeFrontaines approach. Adriana looks pale but awake, Terry steadying her arm. He smiles faintly, professional and careful.

"Mr. LeFrontaine — not sure what you’re thanking me for, but you’re welcome all the same."
He glances toward ‘Mama’ Said-Ma as Terry hands over a thick, weighty envelope. LC takes it without a word, weighing it in his hand before sliding it into his inner jacket pocket.
"This will go in the ship’s vault. Safe and quiet, like the rest of this voyage."

LC goes to his captain's cabin and heads to the safe, takes a look in the envelope with squinting eyes as if the envelope contains an explosive or confetti and sees what is inside. Secured that the cabin and LC did not blow up in a rain of shrapnel and flames LC reviews the contents.
OOC:
Is LC a ball of flames - blown to bits or is it just a envelope containing ??? what is inside?
https://i.imgur.com/lDoEgll.jpeg
LC secures the envelope and contents into the Captain's safe. he then grabs his wet weather coat and heads toward the cargo bay, umbrella in hand, as the rain intensifies outside. With the manifest displayed on his hand terminal (computer) in one hand standing by the Santanocheev crate logged and ready, he prepares to personally escort the special cargo through customs.
Nov 6, 2025 2:54 am
Tamm not only "gets a quote", but he gets a quick follow on comm from "All Star Ship Services" within the hour.

We can get you in the maintenance/repair que immediately. The sales-engineer seems quite cheerful. I see you are already on our 'friends & family' list, too! So the estimate here, including expediting, and with the replacement of the Cryogenic Tri-Spacial controller... Normally 80,000 creds. 10-percent discount takes you to 72,000. We can start in a couple of days, and then 3 weeks to completion unless something real strange crops up.

Time Hack!
MISS FORTUNE grounds at May 28 1115(year); 19:30(time). Port Captain, Health & Safety, and customs come aboard at 20:15 and have completed their bureaucratic chores by 21:00. High/Mid Passengers (with the exception of Decherrek) debark just a few minutes after, and then the Low Passengers complete medical and debark by 22:00. Engineering completes post-flight checks and maintenance by midnight.

Tamm gets his quote on his non-standard repair order by 0200 of April 1. The rest of the crew is busy cleaning staterooms, inventorying pantry and other stores, and getting all the post-jump chores done.

Time for some rest, then you're ready to start doing business by 0900 or so.

High on your to-do list is getting the special-shipment to Castle Santanocheev. The estate is about 200-kilometers north of Port-au-Prince. The air-raft would be fully loaded with 1-ton of shipment. (Think of the air-raft as a crew-cab pick-up truck. It can do 100kph, but in weather and over unfamiliar territory it might be safer to do less than that!) LC gets a brief comm from the estate saying they expect the shipment to be delivered "ASAP" and provides rather general navigation instructions; adding that once the estate gets the raft on sensors additional instructions will be provided.....

LC Rains – Post-Landing Orders & Santanocheev Delivery Prep – May 29, 1115 – 0200 Local Time

The hum of environmental systems settles into a low, familiar thrum aboard the grounded Miss Fortune. Outside, rain continues to mist across the pad in sheets, turning the tarmac into a glistening pool of runoff and reflections. Inside, LC Rains stands in the bridge alcove, one hand on the back of his chair, reading over the latest maintenance quote with tired but focused eyes.

"Right. We’re down. Customs done, passengers off, and the hull didn’t blow apart in the final fifteen minutes — I call that a win."

He taps through comms and logs a quick, curt message to the Santanocheev Medical Office.
Quote:
[Encrypted Comm – Santanocheev Medical Department]
This is Captain Rains, Free Trader Miss Fortune. Shipment is secured and intact. We’ll be making the delivery in the morning — local 0900 — to allow for proper crew rest, weather conditions, and, frankly, so we don’t drive off a cliff in the dark delivering your mystery crate. If this window is unacceptable, notify immediately, and I’ll adjust the schedule.
– Rains
He flicks the console over to procurement and dials up All Star Ship Services with a slightly sharper tone of voice than usual.

"All Star, Rains again. Need to add to the tab — we’ll need a rental of an enclosed cargo-type air-raft, rated for one ton for a two-day term. Safety and security package included. You know, the one where if we vanish into the jungle, your people come find us before the local Fornice flora and fauna start to eat us or a local militia starts asking invasive questions. We understand about the Medical evac extra fees, of course. Let me know when the keys are ready."

He glances down at the maintenance quote blinking on his screen — 72,000 credits with discount.

"And yes, we’re green on the cryogenic tri-spatial controller. Funds transferred. Tell your boys if they install it backwards I’m sending it to Smugg mounted on a plate."
ACTION- If Santanocheev Medical Office okays a delivery after 0900 local then the below occurs
He reaches for his hand-terminal and keys open ship-wide.

"Crew: Get your rest. Call it rack time until 0900 local. Tharrok, Bronz and Kayla — congratulations, you’ve just been promoted to the glorious honor of ground logistics. You’re coming with me on the Santanocheev run. Bring your wet gear and your social graces — we’re delivering the crate in person. Tamm, you're in charge of the ship while we’re out. Try not to sell it. Or do — just get a good price."
ACTION- If Santanocheev Medical Office does NOT okay a late delivery and wants the cargo immediately then the following:
LC places his palm over his face and exhales in an attempt to relieve the stress of an impatient customer. He reaches for his hand-terminal and keys open ship-wide.

"Tharrok, Bronz and Kayla — congratulations, you’ve just been promoted to the glorious honor of ground logistics. Drop what you are doing and you’re coming with me on the Santanocheev run. Bring your wet gear and your social graces — we’re delivering the crate in person. Tamm, you're in charge of the ship while we’re out. ensure the rest of the crew gets some rest. Try not to sell it. Or do — just get a good price."
He closes the comm, exhales, and finally steps away from the console, flexing his shoulders and cracking his neck.

No matter the Santanocheev Medical Office outcome, LC will conduct the follow action and CC Said-Ma & Tamm. Before finally calling it a night, he keys in a set of quick broker queries — basic, no-frills, but wide-net — for local contacts:
Quote:
[Cargo Broker Query – Encrypted, Sent to Multiple Fornice Network Brokers]
Free Trader Miss Fortune is seeking local representation. Need a broker to (a) move standard freight currently in hold, and (b) scout outbound cargo opportunities with estimated lift window of no earlier than three weeks from today.
Priority on reliability, discretion, and not being insufferable.
— Captain Rains
LC follows up that message with a message to Said-MA and cc Tamm
Quote:
[Said-MA cc: Tamm – un-Encrypted,
MaMa I am counting on your expertise in diplomacy and special abilities to act in my stead in communications with any brokers that respond to my inquiry to (a) move standard freight currently in hold, and (b) scout outbound cargo opportunities. Attached is the current cargo manifest. I should be back by tomorrow or sooner, but in the event that the Santanocheev estate extends our stay, please act with fiduciary responsibilities to our ship charter. I trust you with this task. It goes without saying to give brokers that provide us reliability, discretion, and references that can be vetted. — Thank you - LC
He kills the lights on the bridge, coat over his shoulder, muttering as he walks back toward his cabin…

"Three weeks. What could possibly go wrong?"

You are going to rent an air-raft when you have one on board? As previously described: Athelstone carries a single 'standard' Air-Raft (grav-vehicle), a four-seater model with 1 dTon cargo capacity. Sort of a high-tech pick up truck. The passenger compartment is enclosed, but the top folds back and can be used as an open top 'convertable'.
Nov 10, 2025 4:26 am
Santanocheev Medical Dept OK's the delivery for the following morning.

"You have general Navigation data previously transmitted. When you are detected on our sensors more specific information will be provided."

I did not have the description of a four seater model with a cargo bed and the passenger compartment that is fully enclosed. Which means we don't have to rent one and can use the Miss Fortune's Air-Raft.

Smugg Orney's "All Star Ship Services" can provide an in-house broker or recommend an independent if you prefer. If you want a brokerage local to Downport 2-A (Port-au-Prince) there are only a few, but if you want service from a brokerage at either the main dowport or highport there are quite literally hundreds to choose from.

OK, yeah. That's the 'normal' and canon sort. I had described it as a more capable vehicle, but perhaps that doesn't really go with the amount of space available (or the "vibe") on a bare-bones Far Trader.

So we can go ahead with the RENTAL, a G-Carrier sort. That will set you back 125cr (with insurance) from the BUDGET Rent-a-Raft kiosk at the star-town...

NOTE: Any "Traveller" can 'drive' an Air-Raft, sort of like just about any American can drive a car. But of course a professional (Air-Raft 1+) is preferred and in any sort of emergency would certainly do better!
OOC:
I'll change the air-raft description in the "wiki".

LC Rains – On Choosing a Broker – May 29, 1115, Early Morning
LC leans back in the chair at his bridge console, one boot perched on the edge of the helm and a mug of steaming caf in hand. The rain continues its unceasing dribble outside, and he’s half-reading a roster of local brokers when he sighs — the kind of weary exhale that comes with experience, cynicism, and likely unpaid docking fees.
"Right. Hundred brokers to choose from, all promising discretion, speed, and unparalleled margins. Just like every last one of my exes."
He taps a few keys, pulling up the familiar logo of Smugg Orney’s "All Star Ship Services." The smile that curls across his face is dry enough to counteract the humidity outside.
"Let’s not pretend I’m risking cracked ribs and profit margins on a stranger with a clipboard. We’ll go with Smugg’s in-house broker. Sure, he’ll shave a few points off the top — but unlike the competition, he won’t shave them off my skull when the deal goes sideways."
He types a short message into the console, routing it to "All Star Ship Services – Broker Desk."
Quote:
[Encrypted Message – Broker Services Request]
To whom it may concern (and hopefully not someone about to retire):
Free Trader Miss Fortune is looking to move current onboard freight and start scouting outbound manifests for departure in no less than three weeks. Let’s keep it simple, profitable, and untraceable — the three pillars of good merchant work.
We’ll use the in-house broker. Tell Smugg I’m opting for bruised pride over bruised ribs.
Regards,
– LC Rains
He downs the last of his caf, muttering as he gets up to prep for the Santanocheev run…
"Smugg always said loyalty should be measured in bone fractures avoided. Seems fair."
Nov 10, 2025 6:36 am
Mr and Mrs LeFrontaine left a generous tip, in Imperium currency. 5,000 credits on top of the 20,000cr for two High Passage tickets. And a blandly worded but somehow very meaningful Thank You note.
Nov 10, 2025 6:45 am
The following morning (shipboard "Imperium Standard" time) you're ready to start duties beyond the arrival list. Your unusual and intense maintenance will begin in a couple of days. You have cargo to deliver north to the Santanocheev estate. Said Ma is ready to start talking with Smugg Orney's "All Star Ship Services" Brokerage Office.
OOC:
Characters need to commit to actions of one sort or another. Who is going on the rental air-raft? Anyone taking off for R&R? Or working on ship's business? Looking for possible cargo not listed on the public boards? I suppose you'll be relying on NPC Said Ma and the 'generic' broker to sell your cargo (I need to look back and see what that is!)
Port-au-Prince is a very large Arcology and its nearby by monorail, and there is a much smaller "startown" just adjacent to the starport. (more on that coming up if anyone is so inclined.....)

15d tons of mixed lot Kaffe, tea and brewables
10d tons of Dyes from Mora all natural and organic
35d tons of frozen 'Gourmet' Seafood. (LC wants this off loaded ASAP)

Yes unfortunately I don't know how long it will take with the delivery of the cargo to the Santanocheev Estate, so I posted the initial coordination with the NPC Said-Ma to handle the selling of the cargo with the broker. LC and others should be back from the Santanocheev Estate by then.

When I posted for LC I had a NPC and PC in mind that made sense to go on the delivery. Bronz for his 'Look' as muscle and abillity to sense when things are off. And the NPC Kayla Hong - her Diplomatic background will improved changes of a successful transfer of the cargo and reduce the chance that the elements within the Santanocheev estate decide not to eliminate any loose ends about the cargo.

I posted the other two PC characters to handle the initial actions with Powerplant tri-space controller.

Finally since Packratt is out with RL I did not want to assign his character any duties.

OF Course - PCs don't have to follow LC orders - they are free to do their own thing.

Usually David you have us post the 3 actions the PCs will try to accomplish in port. I think with the time for repair and the delivery of the cargo we 'should' post one action.

"Coming along to make sure I can get this G-Carrier?"
OOC:
I am going to assume that just like RL air port car rental with Hertz or Avis or Dollar and avoiding Fox and Thrifty (they do not provide a rental receipt and when i worked with the GOV, that screwed your Travel Claim for weeks!!!), then go through customs and security, then follow the signs to the bus stop for the Rental Vehicle facility, take the bus to the facility, go the the desk of the rental business, pick the vehicle, pay in advance with credit card, given a contract and key and written on the contract folder is the parking spot where the reant vehicle is at, right?
BIC

LC goes with (whom??) through Starport customs and security with nothing but a stylish wet weather coat and his 3 piece suit, ID and hand terminal, after exiting customs he waits for the others. While waiting he contacts BUDGET Rent-a-Raft and ensures they have his Budget 'Fast-Break' Frequent traveller program number. When the others get through security he heads to the Grav bus stop clearly marked for Rental Vehicle facility and boards with the others. When the gav bus gets to the the facility, LC steps off and goes to the BUDGET Rent-a-Raft kiosk and looks for his name and where the one-ton fully Enclosed G-Carrier is listed. If he is not listed on the 'Fast-Break' board he will go to the Kiosk and wait his turn in line and politely make small talk and pay for the one-ton fully Enclosed G-Carrier. He will thank the Sophant that it helping him.

They have a hard job already
He will then with the other crewmember go the parking spot, check out the vehicle for the usual dings and damage, mark the rental agreement tablet and then go to the exit booth. Hand the robot attendant the tablet and let him conduct the laser light scan of the vehicle to verify the damage state of the vehicle prior to departure. During which LC will contact the Star port security and request a digital pass for the G-Carrier rental to allow it to enter the cargo area and tarmac area. Once the robot attendant is finished, LC will set the self driving instructions to the cargo tarmac starport entrance security portal and let the self driving G-Carrier do the rest.

Speaking to LC

"Tamm isn’t happy about waiting three weeks for the tri-spatial repairs. Tamm will check the Engineering database to see if there’s a way to speed up the process."

Actions while waiting for repairs and cargo:

First, get the repairs started on the tri-spacial.

Second, try to find a way to make the repairs quicker than 3 weeks.

Third: Shore leave to visit Biga.

Continue regular activities such as R&R, exercise & strength training, etc.

"Yes, Tamm — the ship can afford the controller."

LC says it with the same tone one might use to confirm they can, in fact, swim across a crocodile-infested river… once.

"We’ve got 244,736 credits in the account. Paying the 72,000 for the tri-spatial controller leaves us with a little breathing room… but let’s not pretend it won’t sting."

He taps his hand terminal, calculating on the fly.

"Between docking fees, broker cuts, that controller pretty much devours the profit from this run. Which means, Tamm, that the next haul better be made of solid iridium wrapped in good luck and gratitude — or at least something that pays on time."

He glances up at Tamm and in a even tone.

"So yes, we’ll cover the cost. But I’d very much like to have something left for when we need to bribe our way out of the next customs check, buy fuel, or — gods forbid — pay the crew. If you can squeeze the schedule or the price without getting us arrested, do it. But I’m not selling my last good coat for spare parts just yet."

LC looks at Tamm as he touches his chin with a thought and then says

"Of course if you want to volunteer your own funds I am not going to step in the way, but I would advise against it."
Nov 12, 2025 2:58 am
"Tamm agrees with you, Captain. Tamm will hold on to his Credits. Perhaps Tamm will need them to get himself out of jail."

Did Tamm just make a joke? It was hard to tell; his face gave nothing away.
Nov 12, 2025 3:23 am
When told of the trip, Bronz held LC’s gaze a long beat and said nothing. Then he shrugged, turned away, and started gathering what he’d need. He’d rather stay with the drives, but Tamm could hold the line. Orders were orders.

He showed up at the bay on time gear in hand and the kind of expression that kept most folks at arm’s length. If LC wanted him north, he’d go north. When they got back, he’d see what the locals had touched and make it right, no gloss, no pretty paint, just the work.

A clipped nod to Kayla, then to LC. "Let’s move."

72,000credits is for the Cryogenic Tri-Spacial controller PLUS basically tearing down the power-plant to look for off-brand/counterfeit parts and replacing them. AND doing essentially the same with the drives. It's a full on Yearly Maintenance on Steroids.

If all you want is the controller replaced, they can do that in a week for 20,000cr.

Seems like you-all were focused on the part-failure and the potential for additional failures related to parts not up to spec. BUT all your experienced engineers know that to save money most ships and a lot of shipyards too will use off-brand or refurbished parts. This is not normally a problem; as long as yearly maintenance is done on time and not skipped any part going out 'spec' should get detected and the problem dealt with. The ship had its yearly maintenance just before you took possession when you were last on Fornice.

The part that failed was an exception. Sometimes shit happens.

As GM, I try to come up with anexplanation that adds some color and maybe some interest. And maybe a bit of a money sink, too! Can't have you-all getting filthy rich too easily! Next time, though, poor engineering dice-rolls might result in something human-error related! Fair warning!

Imperium Year 1115, April 1st. The crew gets some rest following the departure of the passengers.

Presumably the shipment out to the Santanocheev estate has first priority. (Is it Bronz and LC making the run?) There's no problem getting the Grav-Vee equivilent of a crew-cab pick-up truck, 125 credits for the day including insurance. Whoever's driving has to show credentials (ie, the documentation related to having an Air-Raft 1+ skill rating) or else you have to sit through an instructional tri-vid before they give you the unlock code. More on This coming soon!

While that is ongoing, other crew:

Said Ma contacts Smugg Orney's "in-house" brokers around 10:00 Imperium/ship time. They start working the comms to try and find buyers for the 3 'speculative cargo' lots, starting with buyers local to the Port-au-Prince area.

Kayla volunteers to help Said Ma sell the goods, but then wants a 48-hour 'leave' to attend to some personal business. She has some 'noble-related' things to attend to.

The shipyard work on the engineering systems (or maybe just the Cryogenic Tri-spatial Controller?) will start on April 3. Post jump engineering checks are complete. Nothing else to be done there without the help of the heavy equipment...

Leilani? Tharrok? Llogan has a list of things he wants to do...he can probably complete that before the shipyard folks start work.

Decherrek is neck deep in secure-comms getting information on his 'bounty', which is likely to take him off MISS FORTUNE.

More on Decherrek later...

OOC:
The trip to the Santanocheev estate is to include LC, Bronz and Kayla. Kayla diplomatic background can sense when things can go wrong and advise LC and Bronz and of course smooth things over when LC is to snarky or Bronz is to blunt.

Tamm speaks with LC just before he sets off to the Estate:

"Captain, Tamm has had more tine to think about the tri-spacial problem. It is the only part that's failed so let's save time and money and just get the tri-spacial replaced. Off-brand parts work as well as name brand parts but have much lower prices. The Engineers said they can start work April 3rd. The cost will be around 20,000cr.
Is this acceptable to you?"

(Biga is very excited to see Tamm. There is a pot of feijoada and one of rice on the counter and a large flan in the ice box in the galley with a sign reading 'Help Yourself'.

LC Rains – Tri-Spatial Decision & Departure for Santanocheev Estate – April 1st, 1115 – 0930 Local

Standing in the hangar bay beside the cargo-packed G-Carrier, LC finishes reviewing Tamm’s latest proposal, a rare nod of approval forming as he listens.

"Tamm, that’s a good call. No need to tear the whole drive core apart over one fault. Let’s stick to replacing just the cryogenic tri-spatial controller — but make sure we get a brand name part. I’m not flying blind on someone’s thirdhand rebuild with the logo scratched off."

He taps his hand terminal and flicks a note to confirm with All Star.

"Starting work on the third? Fine by me. Keeps us within our window. Once that’s installed and checked, we can worry about the next moneymaker."

He slaps the side of the G-Carrier, nodding to Bronz and Kayla already onboard and waiting.

"Alright — time to earn our noble gratitude."

LC climbs into the cab, checks the seal on the cargo crate one last time, then settles into the pilot’s seat. He engages the nav controls, routes the air-raft toward the estate’s general coordinates, and opens comms to Santanocheev Medical.

[Encrypted Transmission – Santanocheev Medical]
"Santanocheev, this is Free Trader Miss Fortune. We’re en route with the delivery as scheduled. G-Carrier locked on to nav beacon coordinates. Standing by for final routing and landing instructions. – Rains"

Once the final vector comes in, LC adjusts course, angling the vehicle through rain-slick clouds and low-lying fog as the tropical countryside rolls out beneath them — green, wet, and vaguely ominous.

"Let’s get this over with," he mutters, eyes on the horizon as they fly toward whatever version of nobility awaits them behind the next ridge.

Tharrok looks at LC and says, "Are you sure you want to walk back into the lion's den?"

LC Rains – At the Hangar, Just Before Departure – April 1st, 1115

LC pauses at the G‑Carrier’s ramp, glancing back at Tharrok with a tired grin — one worn into his face by years of similar bad ideas and close shaves. He lets the rain bead on his coat for a moment before replying.

"Walk back into the lion’s den?"
He exhales through his nose, amusement low and dry.
"Come on, Tharrok — you and I both know it’s not the first time I’ve tried to pet the Count’s pet lion without getting bit. At least this time I’m not wearing a stolen officer’s coat or carrying the wrong wine."

He taps the G‑Carrier with the back of his hand like one might knock on a coffin lid.

"I know what I’m doing — or at least I know what went wrong last time. That’s practically the same thing in our line of work."

He leans in slightly, lowering his voice, a glint of gallows humor flickering behind his eyes.

"And don’t worry — I’ll avoid any booby traps. Bronz gets to find those. I’ve delegated the honor."

He starts to turn, then pauses, casting a sideways glance back.

"Unless you’d rather come along. Could always use another set of eyes that know which fork to use in a noble’s den of snakes."

His tone is light, but the offer’s genuine. Shared history counts for something, especially when walking back into old shadows.
Nov 16, 2025 8:03 pm
Tharrok considers the offer and weighs it vs staying in reserve. "Well, maybe it’s better to go and keep you out of trouble (Tharrok squints his eyes and flashes an evil grin), rather than trying to put together some sort of rescue when you do get in trouble.". He licks his lips and hits the call stud on his comms device.

LTamm, Mama, I’m gonna fly out with LC, Bronz, and Kayla. If you guys don’t hear from us in a reasonable amount of time, you guys might begin sniffing around to see if something untoward happened. Just be careful and watch your six while we are gone. Tharrok, out."

LloganTamm says:
OOC:
Actions while waiting for repairs and cargo:

First, get the repairs started on the tri-spacial.

Second, try to find a way to make the repairs quicker than 3 weeks.

Third: Shore leave to visit Biga.

Continue regular activities such as R&R, exercise & strength training, etc.
Repairs are scheduled. If all you want is the Cryogenic Tri-spacial Controller replaced, it will take one week and cost 20,000 credits. Bronz had been advocating for a much more extensive program of looking for and replacing all the off-brand components; that would take the full three weeks and cost substantially more.

Leilani had spent so much time working on this ship that she didn't quite know what to do with herself with any downtown. And apparently, it was important to take personal time, so here she was sitting on the outside of the ship.

It wasn't quite like home, the star was too small and whilst it was warm it wasn't humid, but she had to admit that it did make for a nice sunset...
