Well if we take take original roll on a D20
OOC:
IF we look at the original D20 rolls and convert to 2D6 it is better,
so this looks like
New Abort Shutdown - (d20+2+1) resulting is 18 + 3 = 21, converted to 2D6 with 18 is 90% plus 15%, = 105% or 13 on 2D6.

New Restart roll - (d20+2+1) 13 + 3 = 16, converted to 2D6 with 13 (65%) plus 15% (+3) = 80% which converts to 8 on 2D6.
OOC:
Now if you had Bronz or Leilani helping you would have a +1 to either above roll.

Per Tharrok:
Quote:
Suddenly, Tharrok is struck by a thought. He quickly moves his hands over the systems, trying to confirm what he’s thinking......
Tharrok is contemplating the air/raft’s power systems and whether they’ll can help to prevent or at least slow down the decay rate of the backup systems.
OOC:
The way I read it (book-3, 1981 edition) The Air-Raft power is replenished from the ship's Power Plant. This implies that the Air/Raft uses advanced battery technology and does not have its own miniature power plant. That battery-pak could relatively easily be used to supplement the ship's own back-up batteries. This could extend the emergency power for a few extra days.

Of course, LC. One last tweak and...

Decherrek's program is designed as a 'quick-strike', to "atom bomb' the complex malware which is trying to shut down the MISS FORTUNE's Power Plant. It's initial effect seems to work; the power plant starts to recover with Llogan, Bronz, and Leilani trying to bring the control systems back on line (and then do a quick 'warm' restart(.

But then the virus does a sudden and unexpected resurgance, violently burning through the Power Plant controller. No longer stealthy, its obvious that the intention now is not subtle but just an out and out destructive strike.
OOC:
Using Muns' "adapted" values from the converted d20 rolls...
The Engineering Team is able to compensate quickly for the control system's multiple failures. "We can re-route that sub-routine here." "Oh, we have spares for those three junction nodes." "Hell, look here, the virus just short-circuited this one system, I can re-boot it..."

Decherrek, monitoring the cybernetics... "The virus self-destructed as it performed its last destructive instruction. I think it was designed to do so if countered. It will be hard to learn much more about it, but we can still try."

WITHIN 40 MINUTES the Power Plant is back on line, functioning normally. Gravitics can be brought back up to normal.
Oct 13, 2025 10:56 am
The big, tough-looking Engineer heaves a deep sigh of relief. His right hand surreptitiously moves to the thigh pocket of his jumpsuit, brushing it as if touching a hidden totem.

Tamm glances up at his display. His fellow Engineers have restored Gravitics. The rest of the readout glows green, with one flickering yellow. He taps a few controls, and the last light settles into a steady green.

Another sigh escapes the stoic Engineer as the tension drains from his body.

"Tamm is getting a cup of kafe, then some sleep," he says. His hands are still trembling as he waves the Engineering door open. The other two Engineers silently watch him go.

Tharrok settles back into his G-Couch as the gravity is restored. "Well, that’s quite a bit better. How long you think this will last? I don’t honestly trust it, I’d prioritize recharging the batteries and running as much air through the filters, just in case."

Tharrok looks over to LC then begins going over all of his readings, making sure everything stabilizes in the green and reports the results to LC.

LC Rains – Ship & Engineering Log Update – 12:15, May 23, 1115
The bridge lights are steady again, the artificial gravity pulling boots back to deck plating like an old friend returning from exile. LC remains strapped in at the command station, stylus paused over his datapad as he listens to the last of the Engineering updates roll in.
He exhales. Slow. Deliberate.

"All right. That’s more like it."

He flips to shipwide comms, voice steady and measured.
"To all hands — and passengers — this is your Captain. Power has been fully restored. We experienced an unexpected systems fault in the Power Plant controllers. Emergency protocols functioned as designed. Life support and jump field stability were never compromised."
A pause and then he continues with the message.
"My compliments to the Engineering crew — Tamm, Bronz, Leilani — and to Tharrok on the bridge for keeping us steady. Special recognition to Decherrek, whose anti-virus program stopped the cascade. Clean strike, clean recovery. This was a professional operation across the board."

He leans forward slightly, posture relaxing for the first time in what feels like days.

"We are roughly 110 hours from Fornice emergence. You are free to return to the ship’s lounge, service for lounge services, such as drinks or snacks will resume momentarily"

His voice tightens just a hair as he continues, switching to crew-only frequency.

"I want everyone on regular rotation from here out. No more heroics unless the lights flicker again. That means food, rest, and some time off your feet. Tamm, get your kaffe. Everyone else—same orders."

"Kayla, please reassure our passengers and see to their needs. Keep it polite and vague — technical hiccup, everything resolved. If Mr. LeFrontaine is still sleeping, make sure he stays that way. Thank you for your immediate actions."

"Said-Ma please use your resources to keep Mrs. FeFrontaine stable and restful. Please determine if she needs to come to your sickbay. Just let me know what you determine before you execute. Thank you for your immediate actions."

LC toggles off the general comms and switches to a log channel, recording directly to the ship’s maintenance and mission database.
"Miss Fortune crew log, supplemental: power failure traced to hostile malware in control system. Virus origin unknown. Multiple containment strategies employed. Power Plant restored within 40 minutes of event onset. Recommend full analysis and hardware inspection at Fornice Class A facilities."

He marks the file and pings it to Engineering for technical review, captures all the files on the bridge at his control station and files them into back-up. He then rubs the back of his neck, weariness settling in like gravity’s second wind.

Turning to Decherrek before unbuckling, he offers a nod of genuine thanks.

"Hell of a strike, Decherrek. Clean code. When Adriana’s up for visitors, we’ll see if she can make sense of the rest. If she pulled this ship through, we owe her more than just a thank you."

He pauses, then adds, quieter.
"And for the record — there are no logs of psionic events during this cycle. Nothing unusual. Ship’s systems showed a fault. Crew responded. That’s the official story."

With a slow push, LC unclips his restraint, floating briefly before his boots catch deck plating with a thud.
"I’m getting six hours down. Someone wake me if the lights even think about dimming."

He grabs his mug from earlier — miraculously upright again — and exits the bridge with a small, exhausted grin.
OOC:
For the next 110 hours LC Actions are
1. Ensure the crew gets some rest
2. Continue to reassure the passengers that things are safe and we are fine and will be out of jump in 110 hours or so
5. LC gets some rest during the next 110 hours with the crew
6. During the next 110 hours left of jump, Catalog and record the virus actions, our crew actions for records, minor analysis for Engineering troubleshooting at Fornice
7. When Mrs. Adriana LeFrontaine is up for visitors, LC will make it visit her and thank you for her work and actions. During the recording of/action/counter-action & analysis of the virus, LC will have the crew (or he will) share the data and she if she can make anything out.
8. If asked, LC does not know of any Psionic actions or abilities displayed and crew logs will not mention Andriana's abilities in the logs nor to the rest of the passengers.
Oct 13, 2025 8:37 pm
LC glances over as Tharrok settles back into his couch, the faint hum of systems reinitializing underscoring the conversation.

"How long will it last? Well, if I had a crystal ball, I’d be selling fortunes in the Capitol instead of riding shotgun on a glorified tin can held together by duct tape, spare parts, and the willpower of a comatose psychic."

He flashes a tight smile, the fatigue barely masking his dry tone.

"Let’s assume it lasts exactly long enough for us to relax... and not a second more. "

He gestures to the air-raft control panel.

"And Tharrok — that air-raft trick? Good thinking. Might be the only thing aboard that hasn’t tried to kill us yet. If you’re free to execute and go for it. Ensure it's batteries are full, scrubbers working double-time. If the ship farts sideways again, I’d rather we be breathing clean air when it does.Otherwise, rack time."

LC leans back in his own chair, his voice trailing off as he prepares to head to his quarters.

"Here’s hoping the next 110 hours are so boring I forget how to spell ‘emergency'."
Oct 13, 2025 10:16 pm
Very used to 'official stories' Bronz just nods in agreement with LC's comment. As for getting rest, while Bronz takes his regular shifts he makes sure he is up and awake with overlaps with the others cutting sleep time to fine margins. Otherwise, he is spending his non-shift time double checking every engine readout and ensuring there are no new surprises or gremlins in the system.
Oct 13, 2025 10:55 pm
"I just got off of sleep rotation, so I’ll take this six hour watch. You want a wake-up in six?". Tharrok’s tail wags slowly, a sign that he has begun to believe things might actually be stable for a few hours. "I'll double check the air/raft’s batteries, but they should be full. I’ll ask one of our engineers to rig a charger with an air gap just in case there’s some sort of ‘remnant’ code or ‘egg’ left behind."

He checks the inside atmospheric composition on his panel and the CO2 scrubber saturation and reports, "looks like the scrubbers are back online and only 10% degradation. Our air is currently at 5.5ppm
OOC:
(ill effects begin at 8ppm+ iirc)
and falling so as long as we don’t have another outage in the next 12 hours, we should be sitting very good if we go down again."

Tharrok’s hands caress the controls, changing settings to minimize power drain and maximize the charge going to the batteries. "One more recommendation… I’d keep power usage to a minimum for the rest of the flight. Maybe not for the passengers, but crew and cargo could operate at a lower power setting. Kind of a ‘cold camp’ kind of operation. Cold meals instead of hot ones. Hot Kaffe only. If there’s no misjump, we exit in just over 4 days, so I’m sure we could survive this and get a hot meal on Fornice." Tharrok frowns significantly… "Though it’s not my place to tell you or Decherrek how to do your jobs, I would, if I were you guys, go back to the bank and chew on their asses, errr, give them an earful… over their shipyard missing this drek!"
Oct 13, 2025 11:06 pm
LC leans forward, eyes never leaving the displays as Tharrok finishes his report.

"I appreciate it, Tharrok — and yes, wake me in six. If you're already thinking two steps ahead — that’s exactly the kind of bridge thinking I want on my crew. The air‑raft charger on an isolated loop is smart. If there’s a residual trace or egg, we want it fenced off, not spreading like a rumor in a bar."

He rubs his neck, fatigue settling deep in his posture.

"CO₂ at 5.5 ppm and only 10% scrubber degradation — good numbers. Keep the priority on life support and battery recharge. We keep it efficient, yes — but I draw the line at cold meals."

He gives Tharrok a sidelong glance, the corner of his mouth tugging into a crooked smirk.

"If we’re already heating food for the passengers, the delta for crew isn’t going to cook our battery reserves. Besides, I didn’t claw my way through this crisis to chew on cold beans unless they come wrapped around a scoop of ice cream. And we’re fresh out of ice cream."

He nods toward Bronz, whose quiet presence hasn’t gone unnoticed.

"Bronz — stay on those readouts. You’re my early warning system now. Anything off, even by a decimal, I want to know. But don’t push past the edge — you drop, we all lose."

Turning back to Tharrok, his expression darkens slightly.

"As for the bank and that shipyard crew — when we hit Fornice, I’ll have more than words ready. But first, we finish this jump. Survive first. Then we hunt lawyers."

He reaches over, setting a timer on his console, fingers slow but deliberate.

"All right. You’ve got the deck. Wake me if anything breathes funny. Rains out."
Oct 13, 2025 11:18 pm
"The antivirus "bomb" did not completely destroy the virus. The virus did that to itself. I will try to find any remaining code and record it. I do have some records, of course.

"But this virus, it was sophisticated. If it had not destroyed itself at the end we would have had more trouble I am sure.

"I cannot help but think it was intended to disable us. It was not a 'destroyer' code. I think it would have easily wrecked the power plant if that was its intent.

"Even though the code now seems to be completely gone from our systems I cannot help but speculate: something more will come from whomever was the source of this. This could have been a warning. Or just a way to distract you.

"But at least for now the Power Plant seems safe."

(as NPC)

Reporting to LC: "Kayla and I got Adriana down to the Crew Lounge and into the medical cot there. She is still unconscious; deeply so, though the brain scanner shows some very strange and chaotic readings. I don't know what to make of it.

"Theo LeFrontaine told me he is very worried. About Adriana, certainly. But also about our reaction.... He seems concerned that the authorities at Fornice might be notified. He really doesn't want that to happen. He offered me quite a large sum personally if I somehow manage to 'forget' to write this into the medical log..."

LC Rains — crew and medical Comms Update — 12:30, May 23, 1115

LC stands at the central comm console, brow furrowed. He looks over to Decherrek, still on the bridge

To Decherrek :

"You’re right: whatever remained was clever enough to blow its own bridges. That tells me two things: the virus had an escape clause, and the author wanted to deny us evidence. I’ll archive everything you can salvage — code fragments, logs, memory dumps — in redundant formats. We’ll share everything with Engineering, the bridge, and also keep a hidden copy for our own contingencies. If this was a warning, I want us ready for the next one."

LC then keys the channels to Medical nets. His voice is calm but carries undercurrent of warning. To Said‑Ma / "Mama" :

"Thank you, Said‑Ma. You and Kayla did an outstanding job getting Adriana back to the lounge and stabilized. I know she’s deep in the shadows right now. Strange brain readings don’t surprise me, given what she’s been carrying. But we’ll hold the line until she fights her way back consciousness."

"As for recording: forget what "forget" means. There is nothing in the medical log except a passenger with an acute reaction, maybe food poisoning or some odd allergic — standard fare in space. Full stop. We don’t volunteer a scrap more than necessary."

LC is a bit preterb and instead of proceeding to his well earned cabin for rest he heads to the LeFontain cabin. He uses his security override and smiles as he he enters the cabin room, smiling like he was to address a jury to convince them of his client innocence. He address Terry with a warm handshake and says:[i]

"Terry, if you or Adriana's have worries that Imperial authorities at Fornice might latch onto unusual logs — you share my concern. Impound us? The last thing we need is to spend a week in dock prison while someone steals our manifest and sells us off. No one outside this crew sees a hint of what really went down. We stay quiet, we stay smart — and we get home."

[i]He pauses, letting that settle.]

"Right. Let’s get rest, get clean logs, and keep the ship in one piece."

LC Rains – Bridge to Engineering & Crew Comms

LC was about to step out away from his console then catching Leilani’s suggestion with a faint smirk.

"Decon everything? I was hoping to save that level of paranoia for our second brush with digital doom, but you’re right. I am concerned about starting the digital decon in Jump, perhaps this can wait until we are in port at Fornice?"

pause, then LC continues

So if I understand correctly,... and Decherrek or any of you digital closet hackers think otherwise, we start with Raft in jump space as that can be isolated, then after we reach normal space and are planet side, start with Comms . Then cycle through each console. Thoughts?"
[OCC] to gain crew input on method to 'clean-the-system [/OCC]
He nods toward Decherrek’s station.

"And no, sadly no ‘evil inc’ watermark or subscription plan attached. Though I expect if we trace it far enough, we’ll find someone with too much money, not enough ethics, and a grudge against pilots with long snouts. Let’s not have a ghost code hiding in the toaster, waiting to turn the coffee pot into a reactor override."

A brief pause as he takes a sip of his kaffe.

"Carry on, Chief. If anything pings back, I want to know before it starts singing showtunes in binary."
