Greetings all! Happy to see you all again!

As some of you may remember about a year and a half ago I had to withdraw from GP due to health reasons. I am happy to say I am enough on the mend to make my return, both here and the wider world.

When my problems started about 3.5 years ago I and my doctors thought I was suffering from a form of burnout. I was absent-minded, could not focus my thoughts and felt extreme mental exhaustion which I thought was caused by my stressful job in high-end IT. Not only did I stop playing here, but I also had to take sick leave for several years. Thankfully I live in a country with a good social security and healthcare system where I still have enough income to survive. The first two years of my illness I saw a dozen medical experts but we couldn't solve it. It was, ironically, the government doctor who had to assess me for unemployment that 10 minutes into seeing me suggested a radically different cause of my problems; sleep apnea. I believed she was wrong (I always slept like a rock, or so I thought) but I brought it to my doctor for checking and indeed, it turned out I had a heavy sleep apnea, probably for many years.

Sleep Apnea happens when the soft tissue in your breathing channels blocks the airflow while you sleep, causing your subconscious to surge a panic reaction through your body that makes you clear your airways. Unfortunately, this also builds up stress and activates the brain, constantly interrupting the sleep process that is normally necessary to keep your brain and body healthy. In a way, I was heavily sleep deprived despite sleeping normal hours. And I didn't know, I live by myself, so no one could hear me snore or gasp for air in my sleep.

Thankfully there's treatment (I got a CPAP device that keeps my airways open through air pressure) and ever so slowly, and I mean veeeery slowly, I have been recovering since. Enough that recently I also started working in a reintegration track, which I am having such a good time at (and that likes me) that I want to continue working there once I can re-renter the workforce fully. And I feel I can now rejoin GP, I missed you guys!

So if any of you out there feel a lack of energy, maybe have trouble concentrating, feel tired in mind and/or body, possibly know you snore... Go get checked out, the test was very simple (1 night of sleeping with a small device attacked to a finger).

Now to find a game! I'm keeping my eye on the recruitment board but if anyone has an open spot, let me know! (I still prefer D&D5E, Earthdawn, Warhammer 40K, Star Wars Saga or SW5E and the classic World of Darkness games).
