While Ella takes aim at the fleeing Roskelly, Jacky approaches the dozing halflings instead. He rummages in his belongings for his length of twine and begins tying up the half dozen or so foes.

OOC:
If Zach does pursue the fleeing Roskelly, Thrud will keep up with him. I'm worried he's fleeing to get reinforcements, I'm willing to bet there's more than just this one group of them.
Dec 3, 2025 4:35 pm
OK, since Ella, Zach and Thrud are all going to focus their attentions on the fleeing Roskelly, let’s move back into combat rounds. Someone please roll initiative for Round 2.

Jacky - I will say you can securely tie up one halfling per round.

Jacky turns and addresses the two hires. "Don't just be standing there, Hector and Eric! C'mon and give me a hand with tying up these fellows!" He demonstrates with a length of twine.
OOC:
I expect this will expend some of Jacky's twine. Does 5 feet of rope per captive sound fair?

Jacky, Zach dropped his pack when he went combat active. There is fifty feet of silk rope looped on the side.

Heroes vs. Halflings - Round 2
The round sequence (assuming Ella, Thrud and Zach are attacking Roskelly) will be as follows:

- Segment <1 - Ella, Thrud & Zach’s first attacks.
- Segment 1 - Roskelly
- Segment 3 - Grim, Jacky
- Segment 10 - Ella, Thrud & Zach’s second attacks.

If Ella, Thrud and/or Zach don’t attack, then they take their action in Segment 3.

As things stand, I think it’s clear from the picture that it’s not going to be possible for Jacky to tie-up any sleeping halflings this round … there’s a melee going on all around them. He can prepare his twine though, organise Eric and Hector, and move closer to the action for when the opportunity arises.

Seeing her child-size target being swarmed by two massive humans and the sturdy dwarf, Ella foregoes any shooting for now, and moves to assist Jacky with the tying up of the halflings.
OOC:
As I’m picturing it, Ella has a 1in 4 chance of hitting her desired target… so I’d rather have her do something more useful.

Zacharias grits his teeth. While it isn't quite sporting to attack the lone halfling, it wasn't quite sporting of the halflings to waylay and extort them. However, he would be happier if he could extract that permanent waiver. So he decides he will attack with the flat of his most magnificent bastard sword instead of the edge, and demand that the thieving halfling surrender. Of course, if the halfling decides to fight back, then all bets are off.
OOC:
Zach will be engaging in melee using subdual damage as found in OSRIC 2.2 page 130 and posted on the OOC forum. For efficiency purposes, I will roll attack and damage now. If the attack roll fails the damage will be ignored, of course. If it succeeds, half should be "subdual".

Rolls

Bastard Sword - To Hit - (1d20+3)

(19) + 3 = 22

Bastard Sword - Dmg vs. Small/Med - (2d4+3)

(11) + 3 = 5

Dec 5, 2025 2:52 pm
Thrudmarr swings his axe, but at the last moment turns it to strike with the flat of the blade rather than the edge.

"Stop running! No kill if you stop!"
OOC:
Thrud will similarly be attempting to deal subdual damage rather than kill Roskelly.

Rolls

Battle axe - to hit - (1d20+3)

(2) + 3 = 5

Battle axe - damage - (1d8+3)

(1) + 3 = 4

Jacky hustles the two hirelings with him up toward the sprawled halflings.

Heroes vs. Halflings - Round 2
Round 2, Segment <1

Thrud and Zach both attempt to subdue Roskelly before he can turn and flee. The flat of Zach’s bastard sword comes crashing down on the halfling’s right shoulder, but Thrud’s axe is wide of the mark.

Round 2, Segment 1

Roskelly, wincing from the effects of Zach’s strike, turns away from the two fighters. At the top of his voice, he shouts "WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!!!" before he starts to flee in blind panic towards the portcullis gate.

At this point, as Roskelly is fleeing, Grim, Thrud and Zach may all make an immediate additional attack at +4 to hit.

You're noy going anywhere, you little piece of otyugh fodder, Zach says as he attempts to pummel the fleeing Roskelly with the pommel of his sword.
OOC:
Subdual attack. Zach isn't going to go for the kill at this moment when Roskelly is still alone and perhaps, if he gets knocked out, further bloodshed may be averted.

Edit Zach's THAC0 is 19 so he hits if Roskkelly's AC is 7 or worse, right?

OOC:
I think Zach needs to roll 7 or higher to hit Roskelly since the latter has 5 AC.

AC hit = 19 - (1d20+7)

Heroes vs. Halflings - Round 2
Round 2, Segment 1

Those were some unlucky to-hit rolls … 1, 2 and 5.

Roskelly stumbles across the bodies of his sleeping comrades, somehow managing to avoid the best efforts of Grim, Thrud and Zach to stop him. However, he reaches the portcullis gate only to find, much to his frustration and despair, that it is locked. "HELP!" he yells through the gate, as he tugs futilely on its bars.

Round 2, Segment 3

Grim - Roskelly is now out-of-melee with you. You cannot charge again, so if you want to continue the fight, you will have to "Close" (which means you can’t attack this round). Is that what you would like to do? Thrud and Zach will also lose their second, end-of-round, attacks due to Roskelly moving out of melee range.

Jacky and Ella, along with Eric and Hector, advance and prepare to secure the sleeping halflings as soon as they can reach them.

Shut up you sniveling little sh!t, Zach yells as he stalks menacingly at Roskelly. You will pipe down and give us a permanent waiver from your shakedown racket, or I will show you how your intestines look from the inside.
OOC:
Zach will close to melee with Roskelly, but looks up to ensure that there are no murder holes or other insidious (and obvious) traps that could have boiling oil or worse poured on him as he gets close to the portcullis
