A long time ago, the world was a simpler place. Dwarven strongholds ruled the north. Halfling shires dotted the south. Gnomes burrowed here and there. Elves went, well wherever they go when we can't see them.... And human roads and cities connected them through trade.

Remember?

Let's go back there. If even only to raise a tankard of nostalgia in the Blushing Mermaid. Let's look around, and see if you can go home again.

I'm looking for 1st level characters, 2e PHB ONLY. Make them young, naive, just setting out on their own. Looking for adventure. Let me know where they're from, and why they're on the road. Then the (yet to be determined) story will begin.

I have officially given up on 5e. I won't rant about why (you're welcome).

I've spent the summer finding all my old 1st and 2e books, and nosing around used bookstores looking for more. I'm looking to run a short campaign , levels 1-4 2e PHB only, to reacquaint myself with the old THAC0 system.

Anyone interested? I'm hoping for 4-6 players, who post every day or so. "Mature" content permitted, humour encouraged. No experience necessary, this is meant as a learning opportunity.

Level 4 start please and thank you.

There are too many low level games. Lets get into an epic tale.

Can I play a skald barbarian dual class? Normally it isn't allowed but I can make a compelling argument why it should be.

The Argument is that I am myself a barbarian and a skald.

Level 1 start is firm. This is a tutorial game.

And yes, you can play a skald barbarian, but only within the framework of the 2e PHB.

Got it! I will be there for moral support.

Just popping in here to say that I had made an AD&D 2e character sheet a few years back. It ain't pretty, but it's functional.

Posting keen interest. Soft spot for 2e!

Great!!!

I thought this might be a tough sell.... If you want to bounce around some character ideas, I'm all ears. Or, if you just want to apply to the game (the Age of Gygax) that's great too.

I'm interested as well. But it will take a while for me to refresh my knowledge of 2e, and find a moment to write a proper backstory. When is the start planned?

Oh, by the way, do I understand correctly that the setting is pre-ToT FR? Or will we build our own world as we go? I don't mind either option, tbh.

So far I'm thinking of maybe a support role. Thief/Mage multiclass or something like that. Or maybe a druid.

I’ve a penchant for playing dwarves. Some variant of a fighter, cleric or fighter/cleric. I’ve this backstory I keep coming to, a dwarf who’s left his mountain home searching for his lost thunder twin (that’s assuming FR setting at or after 1306 DR, otherwise just a lost brother).

Cheers everyone. :)

Yes, the whole point of this game is t my 2e legs back. The Forgotten Realms is the only setting I have ever played in, I have found the original boxed set, but sadly the book is not in it. I just have all the original maps. So, pre Sundering but no hard line on time. 1306 DR works just fine.

We will start with a party of young, wanna-be adventurers. We'll visit a few landmarks and meet a few legendary characters and monsters. And if all goes well, at 4th level we will have a party ready to set out on a quest of epic importance.

Basically, I plan to spend the rest of my gaming life right where it started. I ignored 3rd and 4th editions, started happily with 5e, but am fed up. Back to 2e. I've always had the collecting bug, and I love used book stores. So, my games will grow as my old book collection does.

Dammit. I kinda wanna get in on this. I have a love/hate with 2E, but it has been so long I love it again. Lol

I don't see the Age of Gygax

I like to roll the dice to see what I get to make my character. It is more exciting to me.

I found a couple of hours to write the concept of my character. I hope it's alright.
The setting: FR, 1306 DR. Luskan (I think it's the best place to play in 1302-1310 DR, tbh).

She is a level 1 half-elf daughter of some Neverwinter nobility, she is mage/thief multiclass.
DM me for juicy details if the concept is acceptable and you want to discuss her family.

I would think the youth would be Named "Raven Friend" and he is travelling from Chondatha to write an epic story. He keeps his origin mysterious.

Someone refresh my memory... were they still doing 3d6 in order for 2E, or did that end with AD&D? Because I feel like you had to roll them in order, but I'm also second guessing myself.

Rolling 3d6 for each ability score was the default in 2e, but it tends to produce… poor results. Being 3,3,3,3,3,4 is not too fun.
From the PHB I like alternative methods V and VI most, personally. Less gamble, and more empowering for the players.
Quote:
• Method V: Roll four six-sided dice (4d6). Discard the lowest die and total the remaining three. Repeat this five more limes, then assign the six numbers to the character's abilities however you want. This Is a fast method that gives you a good character, but you can still get low scores (after all. you could roll 1s on all four dice!).
• Method VI: This method can be used if you want to create a specific type of character. It does not guarantee that you will get the character you want, but it will improve your chances. Each ability starts with a score of 8. Then roll seven dice. These dice can be added to your character's abilities as you wish. All the points on a die must be added to the same ability score. For example, if a 6 is rolled on one die, all 6 points must be assigned to one ability. You can add as many dice as you want to any ability, but no ability score can exceed 18 points. If you cannot make an 18 by exact count on the dice, you cannot have an 18 score.
