Petra flinches when the undead batters Varin, and breathes a sigh of relief that Azote's trusty vines keep the first fell at bay. Seelah's considerable blows, as well as those of Ulfr's siege-weapon worthy tosses, are impressive as ever. And Jasir and Varin and Kaelith show their marksmanship skills.

They all look like warriors to her, even the poor soldiers buried and corrupted...and she is not that. But perhaps she could get some lessons. Over time.


That time is not now, so the dwarrow withdraws twenty feet, backing up carefully away from the third fell. She calls upon Aryth to disrupt the eldritch energies animating the only corpse not currently squaring off with one of her companions (Fell #1). A thin bright thread connects her and the undead for just a flash before it's gone.


A thrum of power builds in the roots she summoned, waiting to be unleashed. But when it lets go...well this has only happened once before, but she recalls the roots were eventually destroyed by the effort of channeling Aryth's might, making their contribution an act of sacrifice.

"Those roots that grasp only at these Fell will break apart in about twenty seconds. Just be ready when the time comes!" Petra warns her friends of the impending loss of the earthly bonds ((lifettrap expires in 3 more rounds)).
OOC:
As a note, lifetrap lasts 1 round per level and deals 3d6 at the finale. (In spite of the error when I first posted which had been written by me at Character Level 3.) This is Round 2 of 5.


Move action backward 20 feet to L11.

Cast disrupt undead (cantrip, 0 spell energy but 1 of 7 uses per day) ranged touch ray at Fell #1 now 35 feet away.

Spell Resistance and damage rolled, in case. No Save allowed.

Ranged touch attack roll at Fell #1 (so as to avoid penalty for firing into melee).

Seelah strides northeast, Dawn-Ward kindling a pale dawnlight across the grey drift. Cold iron sluices through vine-bound ribs; Fell 3’s glow gutters, then dies, the corpse collapsing in a tangle of roots and shale.

Twenty paces back, Petra retreats among the cairns’ shadow. She lifts a palm; a thin filament of silver-white arcs to the thrashing Fell 1, unspooling Aryth’s quiet censure. The ray strikes true, sizzling rot from bone, small hurt, but a hurt all the same.

Behind her, a fresh groan splits the hush: Fell 4 claws free of a farther cairn, blue-lit eyes locking on living warmth as it lurches forward. Meanwhile, Fell 1 continues to at it's thorny bindings.

Kaelith snaps his bow to his shoulder, lets its ice-wood limbs fold, and slides twin frost-edge knives free. Snow scuffs beneath his boots as he glides to Varin’s flank, ready to bury cold steel in Fell 2 once an opening shows.

Roots creak; snow whispers; the ridge plays its grim refrain.

Varin reaches into his pouch and pulls out another of Petra’s enchanted stones, its surface faintly glowing with arcane energy. He narrows his eyes at the fallin, spotting a clear shot between its jerking, unnatural movements.

With steady hands, he loads the sling, pulls it taut, and begins to whirl it overhead. The wind howls, but Varin doesn’t flinch. With a sharp exhale, he releases—sending the magical stone hurtling straight toward the creature’s forehead like a crack of judgment in the frozen air.

Jasir watches the Fell he'd struck return to the shade before his head snaps towards the straining form of Fell 1, still within the grasp of Petra's spell. He's still a bit of a blur as steps a bit closer to that one, trusting Seelah to cover the freshly unveiled Fell 4 to his flank. His hand snaps to belt pouch and in the blink of an eye two more stones are snatched free and sent flying.

The hastened Sarcosan seems to be burning through his Petra-granted supply of stones, the whizzing missiles striking home with such force to almost seem as though Aryth is seeking to return the Fell to death's embrace.

"Vulnerable to flame and cutting-blade!" he calls out, as if to explain the undead horror's resistance to the various impacts which hammer them.
OOC:
2 Magic stones being chucked at the restrained Fell 1. Jasir five foot steps to I8. Still under the effect of Burst of Speed. Two attacks within the 20ft range increment. 22 damage to Fell if it has a 19 or less AC. As for what to know for his knowledge check... Maybe special defenses for whatever class of Fell these are?

Varin's rune-lit pebble snaps from his sling, its arc sailing wide and hitting a cairn nearby, sparking harmlessly into powder.

Azote traces a quick sigil and looses a thin ray of winter-white toward Fell 1; the undead jerks at the last instant and the line of light hisses past into the snow.

Jasir answers with calm precision. Two more "bullets" of inscribed stone leap from his fingers, both slamming into Fell 1. Silver flares, rot sizzles, and the vine-snared corpse lurches as bone cracks under the twin impacts.

Up on the ridge face, Ulfr heaves another slab of frost-bit granite. The rock hammers Fell 2 square in the chest, breaking old iron and older ribs; the maelgral folds for a heartbeat, then staggers upright on splintering legs.

The wounded Fell 2 swings back at Varin in angry silence, but the elfling nimbly slips outside the blow and the arm scythes through nothing but falling snow.

Snow thickens to a gauze over steel and bone; the vines creak, waiting for the moment they must burn themselves out.

Charging F2. If the rock creates difficult terrain, simply adjudicate as a standard action attack instead please.
Also, Righteous Fury (heroic path feature) ignores first 3 of DR against evil. Wasn’t sure if I need to mention that. Thx.

Petra repeats her magic attack against the first Fell, hoping while her back was turned the thud she heard was the second Fell falling to the ground, especially if Seelah had been able to outflank with Kaelith or Varin.
OOC:
Same use of disrupt undead ranged touch attack against Fell #1 just like last time.

Edit to add: lifetrap has two rounds left, then deals 3d6 to all undead (no Save) that is positive energy damage, within a 50 foot radius centered on the midst of the party at the start of combat.

Seelah steps in beside Varin, Dawn-Ward already rising in a gleam of cold radiance. With a single decisive stroke, she drives the blade through Fell 2’s spine and out through its chest. The maelgral shudders, blue light guttering in its sockets before it collapses into the snow, still at last.

To the rear, Petra takes aim at the vine-bound Fell 1 with a rune-etched stone, but the shot skips wide, vanishing into the cairn shadows.

Fell 4, charging in from the far cairn, barrels into the web of living roots. The vines leap to their work, wrapping ankles and arms in thorned coils. The undead jerks and snarls, unable to find its footing.

Kaelith flows in low from the flank, twin snow-elf knives flashing pale in the dim light. He sidesteps a root, drives one blade into Fell 4’s side, and draws it out in a clean, slashing arc, blackened ichor freezing as it spatters the snow.

Though Jasir likely recognizes that there are more effective methods for dealing with Fell the stones have clearly had some impact. Two more stones get cast towards Fell 1, his body still moving with unnatural speed to send the rocks on their way. One manages to hit as the other flies wide. Then with his entire supply of magic stones depleted his hand slides up to draw his cedeku from behind himself, ensuring that he'll be armed for whatever comes next.

Well it was bound to happen. Two magic stone tosses at Fell 1. One hit (but failed crit), one miss. 4 damage (possibly reduced to 0). Move action to draw cedeku.

Ùlfr shifts north to a slightly different pile of stones and with a roar heaves another small boulder at the next snarling undead. You'll not best us this day warriors of the past.

Petra glances toward Varin, to whom she had given six magicked stones--and sees he has not run out of his supply yet, unlike Jasir who just drew his blade.


She calls on her mystical connection to Aeryth again to keep whittling away at the first Fell (who is still surrounded not only by the roots she transmuted but also by Azote's entangling vegetation).


With little thought of using unless she absolutely has to, Petra draws the knife looted back at the tavern.


"Aeryth's snares that only confound the undead are about to shatter, I can sense it," she reminds her companions. Wanting them to be on their guard, even if Azote's Talent will still stop one of them from doing more than wading closer. [One more round till lifetrap ends.]
OOC:
Standard action casting ranged touch attack cantrip disrupt undead on Fell #1 who is 35 feet away from Petra. This is the 3rd casting out of 7/day.

Move draw knife just in case a Fell tries to move past her.

Next round lifetrap ends and deals 3d6 positive energy in a 50 foot radius that would've spread to all the Fell---one through three---on the original map in Round One.

The company closes in, steel and spell hammering the shambling dead. Fell 2, already staggered, crumbles under the press of renewed strikes, collapsing into a heap of blackened bone and tattered mail.

The survivors, Fell 1 and Fell 4, lash out in desperate silence. Fell 1’s swing goes so wide it falls from the momentum of its own attack, scattering stones across the snow. Fell 4 snaps and swipes at empty air, its reach hobbled by the thorned coils.

Kaelith circles in, twin snow-elf fighting knives gleaming. One blade drives deep between frozen ribs; the other whirls in a rising arc, biting through the neck in a clean, practiced motion. The maelgral’s head tumbles free, eyes dimming as it rolls to rest against its cairn. Fell 4 slumps into the vines, unmoving.

The wind sighs over the ridge, snow drifting down to bury the latest dead. Only one maelgral still stirs in its bonds, the vines trembling with each of its futile struggles.

Turns brown eyes to gaze upon the last remaining Fell, Seelah exclaims, Friends…please, clear a path! For that I may charge, and finish our foe with righteous fury!

Readied Action - If everyone can clear a straight line for Seelah, then I’ll charge F1.
Im also ok if we just want to expedite the ending, though.

FROZEN BARRENS | MARCH OF SNOW & ECHOES | PALE DAWN
The roots give their last breath to the work of the living.
With a low groan, Petra’s conjured vines convulse, their thorned lengths snapping taut around Fell 1. Light blossoms within the tangle, a sudden, searing pulse of Aryth’s grace. The maelgral jerks once, the glow in its sockets flaring and then snuffing out. As the last mote fades, the roots crumble to ash, drifting away on the falling snow.

Kaelith wipes his blades on the corner of his frost-crusted cloak before sliding them home without ceremony. His gaze sweeps the cairns’ pale crowns, weighing shadow and silence.
"We don't linger. More could wake if we dawdle," he says, voice even but edged. A faint arch to one brow carries the rest: a scout’s quiet disapproval at how noisy, the fight became.

The ridge stands silent once more. What lies beyond waits for no one.
