Sirilia
"I do not know this… Velassilirilwyn," she sounds...anxious at your description of the elf, but she shakes her head when you suggest it might have been her who framed the young priest "no elf I know can take the form of a human. Not even the visage of a specific animal" her voice then drops lower "I have heard tales, very old tales, of fey 'who walk between shapes'. That can take the form of anyone they lay their eyes on. Malicious beings who live only to sow discord, enmity… and death." She pauses, before adding quietly "If such a creature walks your streets, your danger is far greater than you imagine."
OOC:
@WanderOne - Barns is an educated Wizard. Even a 'polymorph self' - a 4th-level spell!, doesn't allow one to take the form of a specific creature. Maybe an exceedingly powerful wizard managed to invent a more powerful spell that does, but it is highly unlikely. Sirilia is likely saying the truth when she says no elf she knows possesses such power. Aug 8, 2025 4:54 am

Barns was thinking more of Druidic with the description and wild shaping and not polymorph.Last edited August 8, 2025 12:59 pm

Boudica thanks Sirilia for her reply and looks to her companions. "More fey trouble? I wonder if we angered them with the hags?"
Aug 8, 2025 1:02 pm
The hags got their just desserts. If they want more, I say bring it on.
As far as a murderer on the loose, I’ll do what I can to help. But as I stated before, I won’t put myself out to clear an accused child killing priest, without due cause and reasonable evidence to counter.

Boudica replies, "You think I want to rush to defend the Thyatian Church? Hardly. But I got the sense that was amiss when we spoke to the priest, and I believe Moryana's mice that thought the killer may have looked like the priest, but smelled wrong. I dunno. It doesn't set well with me. And to be clear, I don't much care about the priest; but if there is a chance that a child murderer is still free, well... I can't let that stand."
"I just think we should be on the lookout for any other evidence is all. And if I don't have anything more pressing, I might poke round a bit about it, though I don't really know how I'd do that. Maybe consider motive? Who benefits by the murder? Hmm."

Miyana takes a drink. "I don't recall, was the accused Thyatian or Traladaran?"

"The Traladarans," Miyana answers Boudica. "One less Thyatian. But there is something to be said for Thea's opinion," she says, guessing what the young woman was thinking. "A sage once said that all things considered equal, the simplest explanation is often the correct one." But Miyana knew that Moryana could speak with animals, and assumed that the mice had no reason to lie (and quite frankly, she doubted that Moryana was capable of telling a lie). She strained her brain to think of a creature she knew of that could duplicate a specific person so perfectly.

I have my suspicions, but I don't know that Miyana would know of it. I'm trying to avoid being too meta, here.Aug 9, 2025 10:59 pm

Boudica will pray on it overnight, but if no clear clues or messages arrive concerning that, she is fine with once again shrugging and moving on. Aug 10, 2025 6:32 pm
William Winter checks into his room at ye ole inn. Once inside, he closes the door behind him, and locks it.
He kneels at his bed, and closes emerald eyes tight. I am Halav, he utters quietly. More than once. Affirming truth, and putting the words deeply into his spirit.
He lays the two-handed sword on the bed, and gazes down at it. He (Sighs), props the sword on the side of his bed opposite the door, and prepares to go to sleep.
With a dagger by his side.

Miyana sits impassively, listening to Boudica's prayers for revelation. I'll be mildly surprised if Petra and Halav give a damn about our problems.

Will
"Where is your army, Halav?" The tall ghostly figure materializes as soon as Will sets his sword by the bed
"The beastmen’s numbers swell with each passing night, the signs of their coming is all around you. You must send out the call. Forge arms and armour. Strengthen your forts. Prepare your people for the day of judgment, for it comes sooner than you think!"

Thea
"I don’t know..."
Thea stood before the bucket of cold water in the small room she shared with Boudica and Miyana. She would have liked nothing more than a warm bath, but there was no one here to prepare it for them. Instead, she resigned herself to splashing water over her face and under her arms
"I’ve never known an elf to lie. Maybe we should ask the local Magician Guildmaster if he has heard of this ‘walker between the shapes’ she mentioned."
Pulling a clean blouse over her head, she finally turned to face you. "What she said was pretty ominous. I don’t think I could sleep soundly knowing there’s a shape-shifting murderer on the loose."

Barns ended up sharing a room with Thea’s uncle
The old warrior sat on the edge of his bed, still in his chainmail, with a massive sword resting across his knees. you are inside Threshold, and resting safely in a room at the inn, but he still looks up at you and gives you a short, gruff nod.
"I’ll take the first watch."
Aug 11, 2025 7:48 pm

He holds out his continue light rock to him if he feels it might help, "If you need fast light."
Aug 11, 2025 8:06 pm
Boudica nods in agreement with Thea’s suggestion. "Yes we should visit the mage guild master tomorrow. That’s a good idea."

Barns
Jorgen pockets the stone with a silent nod.
"We should stay close to each other until we find out what's going on. No one ventures alone"
And with that he rises from the bed, and walks to stand in front of the door, holding his sword with it's tip pointing down at the floor.
