It was 3:30pm when I sent that...

It is always morning for me. Makes it easier. Never need to know the correct time.

How do you plan on running this?

My assumption is...
3 days of battle.
X hours of prep time before battle.
After battle, Long Rest and possible level up?

Basically.

Long Rest between days. I was thinking 1 lvl up after the first day. So it is two segments

Lvl 10 prep/day 1
Lvl 11 day 2/3

Wasn't thinking of going to 12 but if people want sure...just means the final day can be more epic

I am leaving on a weekend family vacation.
Posting might be very sporadic for the next 3 days.

I am leaving for Hawaii from Sunday until Friday. I will try and post when I can but I apologize if post quality and quantity goes down a bit.

Hopefully this gives people the time to figure out their personal backstory and potentially that first post. Once everyone is ready I will try and unlock the story thread as early as I can so people can start posting their "flashback scene".

The bomb, dynamite stick and smoke grenade are perfectly reasonable as well to buy.

Dynamite sticks don't have cost but I would say 100g same as bomb.

No we don’t need to be Samurai, I just liked the mix of Samurai and Cowboy.

Hmmm. I thought it was more like a reference to the tone from a movie. We weren't supposed/required to be samurai. I specifically asked in the interest post. I am more a generic fantasy character. Not samurai, cowboy or anything like that.

If we are to be a more traditional historical character, I totally missed that part and I go back to 1 on character design and idea.

I feel the same as you Heyde, it was more of a tone to the game.

Story will be eastern/feudal Japan coded but nothing i have read contradicts this

Will a samurai/eastern feel for a character fit in more? Probably but it isn't mandated

So, go on Google, put in English to Katakana translate, translate your character's name and boom, you're there. :-)

I will be calling all non-japanese coded characters Gaijin/Ryoka because it is funny to me.

I included the Japanese characters for my name just for those like you. It's basically the symbol Google translate uses for "eddy."

I just used a generator to come up with a name.
Went with Ryojin cause I liked the mean.

Is there any good anime suggestions to watch to get in the right mind for the campaign.
Was thinking Bleach or Full Metal Alchemist.

Can always watch a Kurosawa movie (or a John Ford western). My favorite was probably Kagamusha though Seven Samurai and Rashomon are the ones most recommended. There used to be a theatre in Oakland that had samurai flicks as the midnight movie the year I was there.

On the other hand, tried showing one to a class when I was starting out and despite all the anime fans, they were lost.

I did slip slightly. Will edit to better reflect what you actually know, but essentially these people are clearly Oni aligned. The man talking does not look anything but human. The big guys are just that...big. If they were Goliaths they would be like the Shaquille O'Neil of Goliaths. It would be a safe assumption they are super natural in a way.

They are Oni, you can kill them with zero karmic burden. The possessed guy, him you might want to think about the KO option. Oh . . . and deal with the demons before the rest of us get there so we don't have to work up a sweat.

Did my Steel Wind Strike go off or are we waiting for combat to start for it?

RAW (at least in my reading) no more "surprise rounds" in 2024. I believe that means wait until your initiative counter and that is how i would like to run it here.

It is one of my gripes for this scenario though and something I must adjudicate here on how that unsurprised enforcer acts before your turn.

Nope nothing lost other than the initiative on the vigilant one.

My instinct is that given the opportunity I will give out surprise more with this rules set but it feels less impactful.

nope rolls are good. just need Bonus action if any added or movement (which I think for you would essentially asking "do you want to Bladesong"). Based on my reading of your initial post. 1 was an enforcer, 2 was the speaker, 3 was an enforcer. So will narrate that once done

Akari also has access to temporary hps using Tireless, but not sure how to use a magic action in this version to do that.
