Kibamura is a quiet, remote village nestled between the misty hills and old pine forests of a forgotten province. The people live simple lives: rice farmers, hunters, shrine keepers, and artisans. But now, something stirs beneath the earth.

Three nights ago, the wind stopped. The dogs began to howl at midday. Strange symbols began appearing in the dirt, on doorways, on children’s foreheads. And last night, someone walked into the fire during the village prayer, smiling.

Fearing doom, the elders sent word to distant lands, calling for warriors, heroes, even mercenaries. Anyone willing to stand between Kibamura and the darkness encroaching from beyond the trees.

You have answered that call.

You are mercenaries tasked with helping the town survive. Expect a slow build up of social and exploration when prepping the town for attack that then moves to a multi waved battle that tests the players stamina.

edit:
My hope is to give players a lot of narrative freedom in the town prep situations. Part of the trope is that the samurai coming to protect the town make bounds with the villagers. I believe allowing the players the ability to take some of that narrative freedom in creating those bounds based on the roles made would be cool and add stakes to the villages you helped and in some way created.

edit2: also I wont be selecting people right away. there was a lot of interest in the interest thread and I really want to see/hear what people bring to the table and say. So maybe a Wednesday selection would be good.

I was thinking of the silent but deadly Blade Dancer.
Magic user who sends swords and daggers flying around the battle field.

Someone like the images below.

Name: Lucky Eddy
Race: Gnome
Class: World Tree Barbarian
Gender: Male
Alignment: N/G

Origin of the Name: In the stories of the forest gnomes, babies float in wicker baskets down the river to mothers lucky enough to find them. Eddy's family, his mother and his sisters and his cousins and his aunts, used to say he had drifted into a backwater or eddy of the river at just the right time and so he is known as Lucky Eddy.

Appearance: At around 3 and a half feet tall, Lucky Eddy isn't a daunting figure at first glance, but he grows on you. Powerfully built but with the build of a blacksmith (or in his case a farmer and carpenter) rather than the toned silhouette of a warrior, you eventually see that he moves fluidly and handles his powerful woodsman's ax like it was an extension of his body. He carries not one, but two heavy packs, both clanking with the iron tools and devices of building.

Personality: But the main thing people notice about Lucky Eddy is how he is always centered. He seems solidly rooted and natural on the land, blending in naturally in any rural setting. And he is the opposite of a traditional barbarian, with a quiet calm and good cheer that is a part of him. This is a man, well gnome, comfortable in his own rather red and hairy skin.

Backstory: Lucky Eddy grew up the eldest male in a large and extended woodland family. They say it takes a village to raise a child and his family alone was enough to be a clan. This clan fit naturally into the larger gnome clan that spread throughout the woodlands, sharing it with the wood elves and the natural creatures they cared for. Eddy early on showed great promise, sinking his energy into the energy of the land like roots of a tree, and was named a protector of the clan early on, a role in which he took great pride.

He also learned the ways of his farming family and the trade of the carpenter, using his strength and feel for the wood to build homes and craft tools. Like many gnomes, his curious nature led him to travel and adventure but his love of his family and the land always brought him home.

When the call for aid came from Kibamura at the edge of the forest realms, Lucky Eddy and his family discussed it at great length across many meals and projects and voted to help. However, the elves of the woods were generally against it and the woodlands were unable to reach the consensus it would take to raise a troop of warriors to come to the aid of the beset village. Instead, with many words of advice and wise counsel, his family sent Eddy alone to help. He was not an army, but he was the best and the strongest the clan had to represent it.
OOC:
Just for when you set up the final thread, how are we doing stats and starting equipment? Will we have magic items?

I am interested. I will post a bit longer when I have more time in a few hours. But I am thinking a dragon origin sorcerer.

This is going fast, just like a pistol wielding card shark Rouge. This roaming Gambler would love to charm the socks off you while fleecing most of your money, not all of it everyone needs to eat, with a quick hand or slight bend of the rules.

Kuroudo "Yama's Messenger" Ronin of the Path of Dragon Lurking in Darkness

Ok I am planning an Oath of Conquest Paladin, Hexblade Warlock multiclass. The existence of a Swordsaint, implies the existence of a Swordsinner.

I am thinking that his powers will mostly revolve around terror, and while he is a calm and kind individual, his facade on the battlefield is based on a dragon that lurks in smoke and shadow.

I am thinking he has a Muramasa blade, which is why he has been made an enemy of the shogunate. He is either possessed or corrupted by this cursed blade, and together they have created the "Most Beautiful Sword Skill."

This Ronin is on the path of "Dragon in the Darkness" and as good as he may be, he is destined for Hell.

Think his Hoate mask would be really cool if it gave him a breath weapon.

His armor is like dragon scales.

He has a gourd that when fed blood produces goodberries.

For a tie to the village, which seems to be a gambling den, I can see Kuroudo(Cloud) becoming a role model, maybe a big brother or father figure to some orphans. Or perhaps he falls in love with a widow who needs someone to set her house in order. This gives you an opportunity to put a slice of life in. And gives Cloud a reason to go somewhere very dark in the name of decency and justice.

I made a Tempest Cleric for another game that I'd love to bring out to play here! Poor Aurelius Lux never got the see the light (twlight?) of day. A man with a dark past who has lost everything and now wanders from town-to-town, spreading the word of Helm.

I would be interested in playing any skin of Cleric, honestly.

Okay, as for my character idea; she is a wood elf but a part of her is gold dragon also. Golden scales are visible on her, and she is very focussed on fire magic. As golden dragon are, according to her the most noble of all dragons, she feels very very entitled. Despite her quite lowlife and outcast upbringing.

Man, this is filling up. Lol Like I said, if you need someone, let me know. I'd be interested to try out a School of Dance Bard -- essentially a Charisma monk. Lol

Might lean into the "charming wanderer" image. Always travelling from place to place, seems very chill and low-key... until some ruffians or ne'er-do-wells start harassing the people in some town. Once the fighting is done, he's gone like rose petals on the wind...

Not entirely sure what race... probably a Charlatan background. He's a badass punch machine, but he plays the roll of a simple wanderer. Probably won't even multiclass, I think 10 levels in bard is too good to pass up.

https://i.imgur.com/m8zHqOz.pngConcept:
Barbarian Berserker (EDIT: Path of the Giant might be more flavorful and thematic actually), but he's a charismatic one, a silver-tongued outlaw with a gambler's grin masking a troubled past. I’d love for him to make a connection with one of the townsfolk (as like a father figure or big brother), where he could end up fighting to protect/save that person, instead of just being a degenerate gambler looking for his next fix.

Backstory:
Shoji Ren is an ex-baker who lost it all on the tables. His gambling problems turned him to robbery, and when his brutal gang got greedy, he robbed them too. Now there's a bounty on his head, and he wanders around to stay on the run. His notorious career has earned several nicknames, which he lovingly hoards.

Personality:
Loves to say he escaped hell on a bet. Might be true. Loves to bet on everything, the stakes make no difference. Could be boots, kisses, or a child's drawing. Loves pastries. He carries wanted posters of himself and annotates them. On the battlefields, he gambles everything on "the best defense is a good offense" (Reckless Attack). He's looking to make up for his past (not that that'll stop him from gambling), so he's a softie at heart.

Visuals:
He's a massive guy, towering over 7 feet tall, but overtly friendly looking, and he wears a necklace made up of huge dice. His special weapon will be something equally huge (or even more so), like a nodachi (greatsword) or naginata (some sort of polearm) named the Last Bet. It’d be awesome if the weapon could be oversized just for the cool visuals.
[ +- ] Concept Portrait
Flavors:
Each ability would be flavored with gambling terms, so for example, an extra attack or extra damage might be named like the House Cut. Throwing something might be called the Dice Roll, etc. Likely he’d have some item that he won on a bet from a magic fox or some other thematic mythical creature.

I'll throw my hat (sword?) in the ring if there's still time. I am thinking of a Fighter with the Battle Master subclass. More of a serious, hardened warrior who's seen a lot and is trying to remember that there is still a little good in the world.

Striking out to see if they can prove it to themselves that they can make a difference even if they sometimes embrace the dark to help bring balance back and protect those who cannot protect themselves.

Still kicking around ideas on it, but that's my initial thought.
