To be fair, I think we should split the GP before reducing for expenses. Why should Jacky or Ellagel have to pay for Zach or Grim's training? That comes out of my share. They spend their share howsoever they please. Which would result in something like 775 GP and 2 SP per person, assuming that the 3876 is the total haul. Then each of us pays room and board from our now enlarged stashes.

That also means another 775 (GP) + 800 (Codex) = 1575 XP for us each on top of what our DM posted here (e.g. 692 for Zacharias).

Good points, reads well with me!

@ all, do we just want to split it evenly, and each of us just be accountable for our own shares? That will make things a lot easier. I think I was making it harder than it needs to be lol.

I'm happy to go with whichever is easiest for you @WhiteDwarf.

I'm pretty sure the XP totals I posted here are correct.

I trust you, boss, so may I trouble you to please explain? Forgive me, I'm an actuary in real life so math/stats is a particular pleasure of mine.

My understanding is that Zach reached 692XP solely from adventuring. Which would make the XP addition in your calculations 1420. We are 5 people, so 800 (4000 / 5) of that comes from the Codex, meaning that the GP contribution for Zach is 620, implying a total GP pool of 3100. But the total GP excluding the codex is 3876, which when split 5 ways is 775.2GP? So where did the missing 155 GP/XP go? Are you excluding our training costs from out XP haul?

There's a bit of double-counting going on. The 692 was an indicative amount of the XP Zach would have if the party sold all the non-magical treasure. A more precise breakdown would be:

Adventuring (killing things and mapping): 537
Non-magical treasure: 155
Magical treasure: 1,420
TOTAL: 2,112

Got it; thanks. Updating now.

So, are we all agreed that we are keeping the book, selling the rest, which gives us each 775GP and 2SP? before expenses such as training, lodging, equipment, porters, mules, and GLORIOUS ALE?

I’m okay with equal shares in principle, though I wouldn’t mind us deciding to set aside a part (30%?) of the proceeds of our adventuring as a common fund for buying shared equipment, provisions, paying the wages of henchmen, etc. I just find it easier to provide for those goods and services from a common pot, rather than have each of us acquire the right amount of iron rations, the right number of tents of iron spikes… but really, this is a mere suggestion.

Fair point. I'd make it less than 30% though. Adding a "phantom" party member would bring us to 6, which would by 16 2/3%. So 15% for common party loot? That would mean we each contribute 3% of the total or 15% of our share, (0.15 * 0.2 = 0.03. 0.03 * 5 = 0.15). Keeps the math easier. This shouldn't affect our XP, right DM? It's as if we get our shares and then contribute some back to the kitty.

Currently, if we all get 775GP and 2SP, we should each give back 116 GP and 28CP, for a kitty total of 581GP and 4SP, which checks out as being exactly 15% of 3876GP, our monetary haul.

Thoughts?

I like the common fund idea, let's go with that. 15% sounds fine to me, we can just toss more money into the pool as and when need arises.

XP is awarded simply for returning treasure to a safe location. What you then do with the treasure is up to you.

So, our object stash looks like:
Item Carrier XP Sell XP Keep Identified? Properties
Codex: Property of Eustachius the Cantor Ellagel 8000 4000 Y GM Post

and our joint funds look like:
PlatinumGoldElectrumSilverCopper
0581040

The question is are we depositing these or carrying them in which case we should at least convert as much as possible to platinum. I suggest we deposit them, as we will probably not have need for much in the halls, other than laborer wages, and they may prefer receiving it back where they can spend it anyway. However, I'll defer to our party treasurer's opinion.

Edit: Calculations only work on character sheets, not posts :(

DM? Can we convert between gp/pp etc, for "free" or is there a cost for moneychangers?

I’d rather not pay just to have our funds held. I feel like we can carry it if we convert to platinum, that’s about 59 coins altogether, which I think weighs just over a pound.

Edit - Ir maybe it’s 6#, I can’t immediately remember if coins weigh 1/10# or 1/50#, different in different editions and systems.

I'm fine with the common funds plan.

Even if we do convert to plat, I feel like all the coins are going to weigh us down though? If my sheets calculating it correct, my gold pouch alone is 68.2 pounds currently. Changing the gold for plat is only going to be half 1/5 that.

Edit: Found it in the book, 10 coins weigh 1 pound, and 1 plat = 5 gold. I thought it was 1 pp = 2 gp so my initial math was wrong, but it's still a considerable weight. I'm assuming we're just talking about party funds though, so loading it onto Billy shouldn't be too bad, but I'll probably put a chunk of my personal take into one of the banks for safekeeping.
