Thank you, Lyral, replies to Morton. It was her idea after all. But who is keeping track?

I just realized that I forgot to roll on Arya's injury when she was down and dying. A result of 1-40 indicates a lingering injury.Arya does NOT have a lingering injury.

Satisfied that there are no apparent traps on the chests, the party opens them.
The first chest - the light one - is completely empty.
The second chest contains a smattering of coins, a few rings, a pendant, and a set of tools wrapped in leather: some pliers, a small hammer, tacks, nails, a jar of glue, and a little knife. It seems like loot taken from travelers/victims, including a cobbler.
The reason that the third chest is so heavy is that it is full of similar loot: coins, jewelry, icons, more tools.
Also, anyone who cares to intuit how/why this came to be here can roll a WIS (Insight) check for their characters.

Does the party want to take time counting and examining all of this now, or how do you want to proceed? Also, anyone who cares to intuit how/why this came to be here can roll a WIS (Insight) check for their characters.

So this was what all those snakes were guarding. I was hoping for more that just spoils.
I doubt that this has any relation to missing food shipments

"Obviously this situation is complex. Force draw from many directions. I suspect the solution is not here but beyond in the tunnels that lead away. Perhaps the temple as you call it."

As everyone talks about what the chests of loot could mean, Ember and Morton independently arrive at similar conclusions as to what it all means.
As the party considers where they could move the loot to inspect it in safety, they assess the weight of all the goods.
The empty chest weighs 25 pounds.
The partially-full chest weighs 55 pounds.
The full chest weighs 325 pounds.

"These are ridiculously heavy," the wood elf comments as he attempts to shift the heavier chest. "Perhaps we take any tools, holy symbols, or other immediately useful items and come back for the rest? We know it's here, and it seems unlikely anyone is removing it. Especially if we close it up as we found it."

"We'll need to do some digging," Ember remarks, looking at the drag marks where the chest was pulled out.

"We have disturbed this place noticeably and leaving the heavy chest is not a sweet option. Although we can fill the empty one with some to reduce the weight of the heavy and to make transport easier. But either way, we need to decide where we will go with them."OOC:

"We are not taking the chests," says Aanbo. "We have to move quickly and quietly; we can't take more weight nor any bulky things, and folks need their hands free for whatever work needs to be done. If we successfully take down whatever evil affects this place, we can come back for this stuff. If the cultists are running away and decide to return here to take their spoils, they'll be laden enough that we can probably catch up to them."
The monk turns to Morton. "As for these tunnels leading away, where did you see them? We can start heading in that direction."

Could we have another look at the map of the tunnels, please?Sep 1, 2025 9:03 pm
Morton motions to the southeast side of the cavern, "I would imagine that would be it."

Aanbo looks at the southeast section. "That one? The one you yourself found to be a dirt wall?" Confused, he stands and approaches the relevant section.
With a resigned sigh, Aanbo takes his small hammer from his pack. He picks an arbitrary spot on the southeast wall and delivers a solid smack to test how thick the dirt is. The monk then picks a higher point and repeats the process, seeking weak points in the wall just in case.

"I meant that if we wanted to make it look like things had not been disturbed, we would need to do something about those drag marks."
