🗺️ Follow an adventure that takes you through the hidden slacks between ancient dunes, and into unforgettable environs.
🐉 Test your strength and cunning in the middle of a fray poses by the question: Bears vs Sharks?
🗡️ Experience an enthralling and challenging module filled with good humor and wild concepts.

In a fantastic and forgotten world, set beside the honey-scented Persimmon Sea, the Ursine Dunes are beginning to awaken from their hibernation. Factions, both of brute strength and of vicious wit, are making their moves to seize the power hidden between the rolling sands. With whom will you ally, and what will you find?

Using a heavily homebrewed Swords and Wizardry ruleset, we will play a single pointcrawl module. This adventure has it all! Social, exploration, combat, and WEIRDNESS! You will need to be self-motivated as any good adventurer should be, and willing to choose your story within.

In this game you will experience:

⚜️ An adventure directly inspired by Slavic folklore.
⚖️ A balance between role-play, combat, and exploration.
👨‍⚖️ Neutral referee who prefers intuitive rulings to strict rules.
🐉 Evocative combats with life-or-death stakes!

Come and join me on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure! Here's what other players have said about me:

🎙️ "What really stood out about him as a gamemaster was his ability and willingness to allow player character actions and decisions to matter."
🎙️ "Charles runs flavor rich games that are always full of surprises. He pivots fantastically between different tones, and he understands the rules of each system without handcuffing the game to them."
🎙️ "Charles is a FUN, patient, and supportive GM who invests time and effort into new players without letting the table become a classroom."

For whatever reason it is that brought you here—for indeed you are outsiders to this place—you stand before the fantastical Slumbering Ursine Dunes and the sweet-smelling Persimmon Sea. You have heard tales of the power hidden in these sands, but also that danger is beginning to awaken. You will be able to choose your own path and find your own story within this point-crawl, and seek fortune and glory under your own terms. The best way to describe this tale is Slavic Acid Fantasy.

Trigger Warnings and Themes
This game will include triggers related to violence, kidnapping, toeture, character death, and hints to sexuality and cannibalism. The strange beings of the Ursine Dunes so not share your morality, but perhaps that is why it is so important you hold on to your own.

This game WILL NOT include the following triggers: sexual assault, violence against children, suicide. This is an incomplete list, and will include other triggers as decided by the group.

To survive, you must work together! For this reason, your character must have a willingness to work together even with those who might be diametrically opposed.

Game Duration and Pacing
This game expects players to post once a day, five times a week. I do not expect the game to move on weekends, as I am usually busy myself. As for the duration, this is a self-paced exploration module; all this to say I would expect it to last a little over a year, but it really depends on how quickly you get yourselves killed.

This game will use a private Discord server to encourage speed and ease of play. Swords and Wizardry has some rules that are benefited by a quicker communication, such as combat options; the server will help with this.

Who May Apply
This game is open to any who are interested in this chaotic experience. The table is intentionally inclusive, and will not tolerate any racism, sexism, or any other -ism. Safety is paramount. I reserve the right to prevent any from joining should I feel they are not a good fit, and to remove any players who show the same.

Due to the nature of the pointcrawl, you will be expected to be self-motivated and seek out adventure rather than waiting for a plot to fall in your lap. That is not to say I won't be presenting adventures.

How to Apply
Simply reply here, or reach out on the GamersPlane Discord. If you are interested, please use a quote from your favorite folklore story or character in bold. If you have questions, I am more than happy to answer before you make a decision. I will utilize an arbitrary method of choosing who joins, which may be the product of the Lords of Chaos. I will select five players, or six if the mood strikes me.

To clarify: Characters will be standard S&W ancestries and classes. You are strangers to this strange land.

So, as you might have figured out by now, weirdness is my jam, and acid fantasy is *chefs kiss* a great term. I just played Ultraviolet Grasslands, not to mention some DCC weirdness run by some weirdos, and I’ve been jonesing for more trippy fantasy. And I love ‘non-standard’ mythologies and folklore being used as source material for fantasy, too. I’m so tired of Tolkien!

Which is all to say, Yes Please.

Not the sword'n'sorcery type myself, but i just wanted to say that i really like those player testimonials you include in your games descriptions. Seen them a few times and they just made me smile each time. They remind me a bit of those old commercials where the reporter would ask people on the streets what they thought about the product. Anyway, i hope you guys have a good game!

This one is described as "Moorcockian/Vancian Slavic Acid Fantasy", which is such an evocative description. You could almost run a whole adventure just with those words.

It's something I picked up from my stint with professional GMing. Selling yourself and your experience rather than the game itself. Now, I do still sell the story, but I want to make sure people understand how I'll be portraying it. Plus, it's an endless source of entertainment annoying Adam with my buzzwords.

I'd like to apply for this one. Big fan of anything weird, pulpy, and Moorcockian, and I must vouch for cowleyc's smooth, robust, and effortless GMing. Running through his doomed city, slaying foes and stealing loot, was one of the most exhilarating adventure scenarios I have played, and much of that was thanks to the skill of the GM. Plus, I always need more OSR weirdness in my life.

To end my application, I would like to provide a quote from my favorite folk song and possibly one of the most tragic and romantic songs I know, "The Unquiet Grave": "When shall we meet again sweetheart? When shall we meet again? / Ere the oaken leaves that fall from the trees are green and spring up again."

Thanks for the kind words! Those will have to due in place of a bribe. ;)

Been enjoying your games and I would love to join another. Slavic Acid Fantasy sounds intriguing and I definitely don't mind a bit of weirdness.

I enjoy a bit of Sword & Sorcery over the usual fare of high fantasy. Please consider me interested. With Cowley running and Dragon Dweller and Drgwen involved, I daresay I will be in good company. And since we seem to be doing our favorite quotations, allow me to provide mine:

"I have ever been prone to seek adventure and to investigate and experiment where wiser men would have left well enough alone."

Acid fantasy? You mean my weekend?

I probably am not a good fit for player, possibly due to taking too much acid, but I would love to read.

And maybe play some kind of useless guardian force. Like an acid entity that is there to make sure you have an interesting trip

I'm new to SW and will have to learn. Expect me to ask lot of OOC questions if you have me (and a bit slow with character creation). But I'm intrigued to explore folklore stories. I still remember reading Latvian fold tale about a hero who rescues king's daughters killing abominations (my pool translation from Latvian below)

Well, if you're afraid, then I have to go myself. Can't let him over the bridge. He gets stronger passing the bridge!
But for safety's sake, I'll put a cup of water on the window. If milk flows from it, then I'm doing well in my fight. If blood - then run to my mother so she can come to my aid. Be vigilant, don't forget what I've told you!

He marries a daughter but don't live happy ever after as he let abomination's wife - the witch to live and have her revenge...

Alright, we have enough for me to start sending out invites! I have just one or two tasks to finish in the game forum before inviting everyone, but they shouldn't take too long. I'll tag you all when invites go out!
