If you need a reference book, here is a link to the free adventure booklet which FFG provided back in the day for a "Free RPG Day" which includes the core ruleset:
Under A Black Sun

Also here is a cheat sheet by the Alexandrian:

MORALITY RULES:

I will be employing the Morality (Conflict) rules more or less as written in F&D, however we will not use the "Triggering Moral Strengths/Weaknesses" option. (Though you are welcome to still select a Strength/Weakness to help define your character.)

Please Note, my particular view on Morality is as follows:

1. Morality/Conflict is not a punishment, it's a storytelling tool (serving the same role as Obligation or Duty - it's a complication to be introduced into the storytelling).

2. Morality/Conflict is not me stating that you're evil as a whole (Yoda and Obi-Wan no doubt did things that gained them Conflict all the time, such as using dark pips), just that sometimes getting exactly the result you want may require ... deviation from the Jedi Code.

3. Morality/Conflict is a mechanic that I want you to actively engage with to guide your Actions and tell the story of your character.

4. I will not use it as a "Gotcha!" - I will notify you when something you've said bestows Conflict, and you will have the opportunity to choose whether or not you do it.

5. The Conflict Table is usually the "floor", particularly malicious "intent" may increase Conflict bestowed.

6. Conflict may come from the narrative and mechanics, like Fear checks, Nexii, etc, not just Force die.

When To Roll/Player Driven Rolls

Please do feel free to "put your GM-hat on" and try to determine for yourself if a roll is warranted.

In order to reduce back and forths - which those are ofc the bane of PbP - I will always, ALWAYS welcome and appreciate you rolling a check without me asking you to.

This can do a couple things:

1. First and foremost, it tells me that you want to change or impact in a significant way what is going on in the narrative. It tells me you see an opportunity for your character to "shine" and I want all of your characters to have the opportunity to shine. And that most easily happens when you identify the opportunities.

2. Or it tells me you see the opportunity for game-play. You have identified a skill or talent or gear, etc that your character has that is relevant to the narrative. This relates back to 1. but reinforces the fact that I may not always know when you guys have relevant abilities and that gameplay is an "option". So I appreciate you helping me identify those moments.

We like to use the game, story emerges from the dice in this system. Rolls help drive things forward.

Worst case scenario, I just say: "Thank you for the roll, but no roll was necessary.", and we move on. No harm no foul.

Or it may be the case that, not knowing what you were gonna do, I don't/couldn't have a specific way in mind in which the story would proceed from your action. And so if you throw out a roll to "give your narrative weight"? I may use that roll result to inform how the narrative proceeds, if it was borderline as to whether a roll would be needed.

This approach "honors" your desire to meaningfully impact the narrative through mechanics and gives you the window to shine through, etc

But please do always add a default/assumed difficulty of PPBlk - Average with a Setback.

Thanks!

:)
