The thick-shouldered antherodon that is yoked to the front of the wagon utters a bellow as Noxmorte gets on the cart …

I'll move faster, grabbing a box.

OOC:
I'll move faster, grabbing a box.
OOC:
I'm going to roll Tough for you, DS 8, just to speed along the back and forth …

Noxmorte hustles under his box, which smells a lot like salty fish. He moves into the loading dock and easily finds the kitchen, which even at this early hour smells of frying and is filled with the noises of knives chopping and spatulas stirring in metal pans. There are about a half dozen cooks at work. None of them pay attention to Noxmorte, who thumps the box down in a convenient corner where someone might trip on it, and moves through the swinging door into the dining area.
OOC:
Again, just to speed things, I'm going to roll Noble, DS 9, for the appropriateness of your attire

Noble (DS 9) - (2d6)

Noxmorte is vaguely aware that he's underdressed for the Pretty Birds.
OOC:
Please describe the clothing of the patrons, and contrast Noxmorte's garb
Aug 11, 2025 4:10 pm
Noxmorte is wearing his standard harness, the leather straps were not originally cheap, but are showing their wear. The same can be said of his boots, he cleans them regularly and should only be sporting today's dust. His waist wrap is recently new, but it too was not expensive. Noxmorte can tell the patrons of the Pretty Birds are of a higher class, some men are dressed similarly to Noxmorte, showing off their scars and wealth at the same time. Their harnesses appear brand new, the leather shines and the metal buckles have various designs engraved and inlaid in gold. The other men, obviously those who've made their money without the sword, are wearing fine fabrics of light weave. The loose fitting style of the clothing is designed to keep them cool, but also show off their wealth rather than their form. The women are grouped into two types, the older ladies have a reserved and disguising style that again, shows off the wealth and less the figure. The younger women seem to be here as decoration for some of the men, showing a moderate amount of flesh and having closer cut designs with lot of gabs or slits to offer the chance of seeing more.

Noxmorte perceives disdainful glances from the better dressed civilian men and women, cool recognition from the successful men (and women) of the sword. Mercenary interest from the decorative women.

How does he seek information?
Aug 13, 2025 1:59 pm
Noxmorte makes his way towards the bar, signaling for the bartender. "An ale please, how's your day going?"
Aug 13, 2025 3:14 pm
The bartender looks at Noxmorte with a haughty face. He's an older man, elegantly groomed and dressed in clothing slightly simpler than the civilian patrons — but still, finery. "Lovely," he answers. "Are you enjoying your visit?" The implication being that Noxmorte is a tourist, not a regular.
Aug 15, 2025 2:58 pm
Noxmorte smiles at the intended jab. "I am, thank you. Just looking for a little information, the people here see the city from a different point of view than the masses."
Aug 16, 2025 7:44 pm
A fleeting smile. Is it sympathy or mockery? "Certainly. What are you drinking?"
Aug 17, 2025 4:37 pm
"A stout ale, nothing dainty." he asks politely.
Aug 22, 2025 11:34 am
Surprisingly, the bartender smiles genuinely.

"Inker's Blot is a good one," he says. Turning away, he flips a pewter mug from the shelf and gracefully moves to a tap where he fills. He places the mug in front of Noxmorte. "First one's on me. So what's your game?"

Noxmorte takes the mug and gives it a taste. "Have gun, will travel. Pretty much anything for hire. Sometimes I catch wind of a pay-on-completion job and I run it down. Which is why I'm here, word is there's a spider with an empty cellar and someone wants to know who is responsible."
Aug 26, 2025 1:28 pm
The barkeep exhales slowly and looks nervous. "You may not know this, but there are ways to hide one's mind from the weblords. For example, the feathers of the blood crow are supposed to repel their psychic crawl. Or maybe elude is a better word than repel? I'm not a poet. But the rumor that a blood crow feather was found in the spider's cellar, that could be significant. Not just that the thief might be immune to oversight, but more." He looks around, then nods slightly — to himself? He leans against the polished pale wood bar top, casual-like. But his voice gets quiet and intense. "How much do you really want to know?"
Aug 26, 2025 3:48 pm
Noxmorte takes a long pull on his ale, sits it on the bar and leans in to the bartender. Quietly he answers, "I need to know enough to track the person down or enough to run away, if that's the right choice."
Aug 26, 2025 7:45 pm
The barkeep has a long face that is accentuated by a wax-pointed goatee. He looks over Noxmorte's shoulder as he quietly speaks. "What if there's a third option?"
Aug 27, 2025 1:02 pm
Noxmorte contemplates his ale for a moment, "I'm listening".
Aug 27, 2025 2:30 pm
"You'd need to wear the feather to hear more," the barkeep answers. He dips his fingers into the neckline of his shirt, and pulls out a pendant on a silver chain: a blood crow feather, somehow captured in glass.
Aug 27, 2025 2:30 pm
Just as quick, the barkeep tucks the pendant back into his shirt.
