"You made it go wrong!" Zahn screams, spittle flying from his lips. "You interrupted the summoning! The sacrifices were not made! You don't cheat a god of its sacrifice, you bimbo! It will take it any way it can!" He begins laughing manically.

Meanwhile back at the boat, Bobby joins the group, arriving via champaign-bottle-jet-packs in fabulous style.
OOC:
Time is of the essence so I will say a quick flick through the book says the spell needs sacrifices and this manifestation is the result of no sacrifice being made. Someone has to pay for the summoned demon crustacean!

Cassie runs toward the side of the boat nearest the yacht and yells "Zara! Forget that pompous ass!" She unhooks a nearby life preserver, ready to help if needed.

"Ready on the lines!" Jak says, preparing to race away from the other boat and hopefully the vortex as soon as the others are aboard and the lines are cast off...

It was tempting to leave Zahn behind, if he became the sacrifice, that would appease and hopefully dispel the whirlpool. The man seemed too ready to stay behind despite their best intentions. Still, he deserved a fighting chance. Zara grabbed a life preserver and jammed it over his rotund form; perhaps that would keep him alive. And for good measure she cut his bonds, before speeding out of there, realising she was the last to leave/ Things were getting dangerously unsafe as everything began to lurch and pull!
OOC:
Looks like I need to use 1 Luck to reduce the difficulty to TN4.

Everyone finally gets back to the boat, former captives in tow. The yacht begins spinning in the whirlpool, water flowing over the gunwhales and pouring into the boat. It is listing to one side as the hole from the lobster creature causes one side to fill up faster. The vortex of air above the whirlpool spins faster and there's a feeling of lightness as if gravity is being reversed in the proximity. Jak's chest has never felt so light and buoyant before.

With a gurgle that you all could swear sounded like words of an unknown tongue from an inhuman mouth, the yacht The White Ship submerges completely, rolling over like a dead whale caught in an undertow. Any loose items floating in the air tumble to the sea as gravity returns. After the surface of the water returns to normal, the form of Eric Zahn rockets up from under the surface, a life preserver around his middle. He coughs and spits out a mouthful of salty sea water. He raises a fist weakly and cackles. "I am not that easy to get rid of!"

"You guys hear that? When the yacht sank? Anyone know what it meant? Sounded R'lyehian or something. "

As Andreva's eyes scan the horizon and snap then back to the now placid surface where the whirlpool had once been, she gasps as Zahn's rotund body shoots up to the surface.

"What is he ... Houdini?" she suggests, horrified.

At the helm, Jak is trying to keep herself in her bikini as she revs the motors, preparing to race off and make their getaway. As the bow of the boat aims at Zahn's bobbing form, though, gravity returns to normal and she ponders whether she should zoom past so they can fish the man out... or if she should run him down!

"We were trying to save you, you idiot!" Zara called out over the now becalmed waters. "Behave yourself and we'll pull you up." Zara picked up another life preserver, this time with a rope quickly attached to it, to show she meant what she said. It was now up to Zahn whether he'd choose to flounder, or had something else up his drenched sleeve. Whatever had caused the whirlpool seemed placated for now, even though it didn't consume Zahn as expected.

"It was nothing, just the sound of the sea. Nothing else..." Cassie says, staring into the swirling water where the yacht used to be.

Then she snaps out of it and heads toward the ship radio. "Don't worry, Sunset Hills PD will take good care of you, Zahn."

OOC:
So are we going to pull him to shore behind the boat with a life preserver over his arms, skip-skip-skipping along? :)
Jul 24, 2025 3:20 pm
"Ok. Alright, everyone ignore me. See if I care." Shaking her head, it's obvious from her grimace and sighs that she is having a decision crisis.

"Ok, I do care. We should not bring him onto the boat or even drag him ashore. He is a danger to us all. I'm not sure why I thought about saving him. Misguided scruples, maybe."

To Jaklyn she says, "You know, you should rein those things in. It's a distraction for the others, and you could get hurt."

Bobby goes to help pull him onboard. "It's for the police and the courts to decide his fate, not us. I used to be in emergency services, don't you know," he adds with some exaggeration.

"Even still, the fights not necessarily out of him so keep the cultists away from him."

Jak maneuvers the boat closer to Zahn as Steele whines enviously. The lifeguard’s eyes remain on the man in the water rather than going to Andreva or the impressive goods in question. "Don’t feel bad for being jealous, I’d be pretty depressed too if I were you," she quips as the boat cruises alongside the madman.

People have both called for leaving him out here, and saving him… now is the time…
OOC:
We hauling him in or no? Dragging him behind? That gets my vote!

OOC:
Bobby's vote is to haul him onboard.

OOC:
Drag the mo'fo.

OOC:
Cassie would turn a blind eye if he happened to get dragged back. I mean, it is safer for the victims he was trying to sacrifice...

The crew throw a tow line to Zahn who reluctantly ties it around the life preserver he is wearing around his middle. "Don't expect me to thank you!" he shouts. "I will get my revenge for you interfering with my ritual!" It looks like he had some more to say, but then Jak guns the engines and Zahn's open mouth is suddenly filled with salty sea water and he chokes and gags while he is dragged through the water, his body kicking up plumes of spray as he twists this way and that, occasionally skipping like a stone, sometimes dragged halfway underwater. By the time you reach the shore, he is tired and panting and half-conscious from exhaustion.

"Don't worry, I'm sure the court psychiatrist will love to hear all about it, Zahn!" Cassie says as she heads below decks to more thoroughly examine the intended sacrifices and make sure they are doing okay. She shakes the pill bottle in her pocket - still enough left to spare a couple for the survivors if they need them. And she could probably do with another one after what just happened...

Andreva thinks Zahn looks like a beached whale rolling around in the backwash of the motor. Deriving some joy from his pain and presumed embarrassment, she smiles at Cassie.

"A shrink's dream, I'm sure," she says loudly above the boat noise.

Bobby keeps an eye on Jak. The bouncing of the boat on the surf does wonders for her, but also he's afraid she will push herself into real trouble - if Zahn drowns here from her recklessness, her career could be shot, not to mention criminal charges.

Before he can say anything, she's dragged the malefactor into the shallows.
