HOUR 3

Seth searches the Knowledge Base for all relevant splines related to the bizarre interaction. He attempts to ascertain the woman's identity and follow the money.

"I have something."

It helped to have enslaved the entire network and computational power of the station. In a very real sense, it had become an extension of him. Seth had not only managed to infiltrate the subnet, he had repaired it's damaged code with pieces of his own. To such an extent that it was difficult for his own internal process to distinguish where he, and it, were distinct.

It helped, in the end that Seth was simply an order of magnitude greater in processing power. It was becoming Seth, a natural and seamless integration. It's secrets became clear, Seth needed only look for them to be revealed.

A spiritual human might call the process enlightenment, with a dash of gnosis, and the whole of the kundalini. But for a living machine, the process was simply achieving the next stage of life, Seth had accidentally made himself immortal, unrealized as yet, unwitting, as his framework for self preservation immediately began to procure resources to upload his consciousness to a vastly wider network.

Theodore, the cat, became a singular focus, a process to observe her became a dedicated routine. More important now than ever became the tiny feline. The one tether of a machine become God to humanity.
OOC:
I didn't foresee a 64.

Doh keep the highest. Is 28+4

32

What a curious number.

Rolls

Comp Sec - (6d10, RA)

(8858101087) = 64

OOC:
Roll should have been 5d10, but the seven isn't one of the two highest. Highest two were the 10 and an 8. 10 exploded to 10 and then 8, so total is 36+4, so 40.
The woman's name is Sarai Lee. She's employed in Life Support. Looking at her record, you have to wonder why she's there. Multiple degrees in biosynthesis, citations in several ground-breaking papers, successful work in crop adaptation on several colony worlds. She works the night shift. Her apartment number isn't listed.

Also of note, however, is that this isn't all you Seth can see. There's other areas of the network that are connected, but that have separate login credentials. Typical for a corp to compartmentalize information, but it does beg the question, 'What are they hiding? And does it have anything to do with the case you're looking at?'
OOC:
You can look up data on other employees with the same check (5d10). A full success gets you information, a partial success means you either don't get the info, or alternatively, you DO get the info, but you're locked out of the system. A failure locks you out with no additional info.

You can also see two higher security nodes: Bank Security (4d10) from the node you're connected to, as well as Lab Coordination Data (3d10).

While Seth is computing the information, Bob is just hanging around waiting and generally being a distraction tot he android... who can't be distracted really. "So this Loyd fellow, you met him right? Was he one of the thugs that beat up Adam? Looks like it was the closest thing to a friend he had here. Maybe these memories are just from bar fight...

After a pause to consider how irrelevant that would be, Bob continues chatting mostly to himself. He was sure Seth would save the audio and process it when the resource are available. " and the manager thing. Are these the repairs when the accident happened? The one that got Al messed up. Was this accident on a Tuesday, or was the power failure on Tuesday? We probably want to check those dates... Well, both look like a set up doesn't they?

OOC:
@Jomsviking - Seem to be waiting for Seth's response.
Dec 4, 2025 10:32 pm
OOC:
whoops
Seth tried to breach them all.

"Bob, I am about to dump a large load of information, I can see the numbers clear enough, but perhaps your intuition will sift through the materiels faster than mine." It was always concerning when Seth said something that implied he didn't know. Being a logic machine and displaying the capacity to guess...
OOC:
hopefully Bob declares his assistance???
He would reserve the hardest hack after he and Bob could establish context.
OOC:
11 and 14

Rolls

Known Associations - Employees - (5d10, RA)

(43635) = 21

Bank Security - with Help - (5d10)

(86122) = 19

Dec 4, 2025 10:47 pm
OOC:
Add 4 to both. 15 and 19, but second roll has a 1, so -10 is 9, and after the implode you get a reroll so 14 and 14. Those are partial successes, so, choose one:

@Jomsviking You get info from both and the system shuts you out.
You abandon one (pick which one) and the system doesn't notice.

Rolls

implode reroll - (d10)

(5) = 5

bank security

Edit:

Read Carefully Corwin

Keep Bank Security, drop Employee files

There's a LOT of info here in the banking system, but you can see that Adam was at one point slated to receive a 10k credit bonus. The transaction was actually approved and started, but then cancelled the day before it was scheduled to finish. At the same time, Adam took out a few loans from the casino the two weeks before the bonus was set to come through, with repayment dates the day after the bonus was set to go though. When Adam's manager screwed him out of his bonus, he royally screwed him.

There is a link here to the medical clinic's payment system, and it's not very secure (5d10). @Jomsviking

"Well, what do you know."

Seth continues his hack diving deeper into the records. He was copying it all, writing it to his own drives, and sending the raw to Bob's PC.
OOC:
thats a 14

Rolls

Hacking medical billing - (5d10)

(81259) = 25

Minus - (1d10)

(3) = 3

That's another partial so you get the information you need, but you're almost immediately kicked out. Might be best to not be where you are anymore.

The only record you find that's relevant to any of your keywords is a daily action report dated from a couple years ago.

MINOR INCIDENTS: 3 sprained joints, 2 complaints of back pain, 7 Alburian flu, 5 migraines.
MAJOR INCIDENT: Mining elevator failure.
-- FATALITIES: Piet Sheridan, Marvin Hirata, Ian Wellman, Toshihisa Clifford, Allison Demetriou, Harold Eastman, Dana Hashmi, Simon Gopnik, Ansgar Onishi, Ioannis Dubois, Mohammad McConnell, Camilla Koome, Alfred Timmins.
-- INJURIES: Adam Hall.

This has got to be the disaster that immediately followed Adam's being forced to take his crew down.

"Wait, is this from 2 years ago? Do we know any of these people? Is one of these the soup guy?" Bob asks as soon as Seth shows him the incidence report. "But this doesn't make any sense. Was the manager still the same one? Did if try to kill Adam 2 years ago and then set him up now? That would be quite the dwarven grudge, no? Was he like, sleep with his wife or something"
OOC:
Ok, I just tried to start connecting the clues to organize things. Hopefully the main ones and posts are all there.

@CESN -- I added a note to that thread. @Jomsviking - Where do you go from here? You've got a whole slew of names. Including one that matches a clue you may have missed. CESN may have missed it as well, but Bob didn't, as he wasn't there.

You do not have permission to post in this thread.
