Miyana

Two of Miyana’s arrows sank into the red circle, but one of them landed cleanly inside the pea-sized bullseye, awarding her with four points. With eight in total, she is the highest scoring archer, and not only qualifies for the next round, but has a slight advantage over the other two contenders still remaining. The targets are swiftly moved fifty feet down the field, and soon the herald signals you to fire again.
OOC:
@WhtKnt : I think Miyana should have at least a +4 bonus. 2 from her level, and 2 from her dexterity. You can add another +1 if you have chosen 'bow' as your weapon specialty in level 3 (see house rules for specialization here [ref]). Go ahead and roll for the next round. 3 arrows again, but the difficulty is 2 higher.

Travels have been enticing and done me well I believe. and he continues, "I have matters with the Bishop Norbert Diadane currently taking up my time. You know how it is. A busy mind is best. Oh Yes, I will let the Bishop know you're in good health as well. He surely will ask as I mention time spent here." Barns sit easy as he chats. He seems to have a confidence about him.

Barns

Edmund didn't summon Barns to his office to talk about the Bishop, but now that he brought it up, he felt obliged to ask: "Oh really? What business do you have with Bishop Diadane?" He takes his seat opposite Barns and eyes him curiously

Miyana

Miyana is precise once again, and her marksmanship draws gasps from the crowd. But her Thyatian rival, wearing all greens, manages to outdo her, landing two shots at the dead center of the targets. He now edges her slightly in the total points, taking the lead. The third archer, however, has to admit defeat; he falls too much behind, and eliminated from the contest for having the lowest score.

The cheer from the mostly Traladaran crowd is unmistakable when Miyana is declared one of the finalists. She can feel their energy behind her now, all their hopes of getting one over the Thyatians now rest in her hands. They all fall into a hush, however, when she steps up for the third and last round, after the targets have been pushed even farther down the field.

Boudica listens intently, fascinated and a little scandalized. The notion that Petra was not Traladaran? That she might not have even existed?! Impossible! But still, perhaps there was some truth to the story. Perhaps she had not been Traladaran originally, but became so. Or perhaps, in a way, Traladara became her.

But there was something else in what he said that caught her attention. "Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You are truly a great scholar. But please, could you tell me more about the location of this old settlement of Karakatos, in the old city? I should very much like to visit it."

And now I'm curious as why you would summon just a lowly Journeyman. I know that it has been a bit since I have returned here. "

With some extra thought, "Of course any aid that you could help me with matters for the Bisiop soon trip would certainly leave me to fill you in more on such as you would be extending your efforts that way. "

He adds on, "Of course greater the, greater guilds position would be. "

Our neolegendary fellow steps to the mark. His wooden sword perhaps just slightly splintered from earlier bouts, and his shield a bit worse for the wear.

Will fights through soreness, makes his sword-minded approach, and takes warrior-charged swings!

Barns

The mention of the Bishop piqued Edmund’s curiosity, but once Barns refused to share the details of his engagement with the holy man, he decided to let the matter drop. He had a different reason for summoning him to his chambers today.

"Tell me" he said after a moment of silence "Have you ever come across the word Nosferatu?"
He watched his face for any hint of recognition, but didn’t wait long enough to allow him to answer:

"It is a Traladaran superstition. They say that these are the dead who rise again to prey upon the living. That they feed only on blood. Living in secret, Indistinguishable from ordinary men" He stopped for effect "The guild has always considered such stories to be nothing but folklore. Useful for keeping peasants indoors at night. But new information recently came to light. Disturbing details. Enough to make senior members of the guild consider the possibility that there might be a kernel of truth in these tales"

Now that he set the background, he moves to tell him what he requires of him:

"You travel more than most in our ranks. You move among commoners. Between cities, places where the guild’s eyes rarely reach. If one of these... Nosferatu exist, you might be the one to find it. And if you were to capture such a creature, secure it for our study, your efforts would not go unrewarded"

Boudica

"I’m afraid there is nothing left of Karakatos. No walls, no monuments, not even crumbling stones. Just the stories that it once stood where the Old Quarter now lies" He obviously felt sorry for disappointing her "It’s been a thousand years. That’s a long time by any measure, and by human reckoning, nearly impossible to truly grasp. Back then, Thyatis was barely more than a powerful coastal city-state. They hadn’t even begun their great expansion into Davania. The Milenian Empire still ruled the heart of the continent. Glantri? Nothing but a vast, swamp-choked wilderness. The Flaems wouldn’t settle there for centuries yet."

"It was a different world. And in that time, even the written histories, what little there were, have been copied and recopied, redacted and edited. History and myth became inseparable. And for a land like Traladara, whose past was never preserved in written records, the trail is even fainter and more elusive."

He didn’t want to leave her disheartened, so he softened the voice: "But that’s why the Archaeological Society exists! That’s why we dig! Sometimes, not in the earth, but in old folk tales, in relics, or in languages nearly forgotten. If you are truly interested in uncovering what happened in this land, we could use your help. We always have need for people with curious minds"

Will

Ser Henry Ashworth proved himself a match for Will. He was much more experienced, a noble born who had trained with the sword since the moment he could walk. Will was younger, and less refined, but he made up for it with raw strength. The duel could have easily gone either way; the older knight scored a good couple of hits against Will’s armor that took the wind out of the younger warrior, but eventually he was forced back, and the final clash had him dropping to one knee, winded and bruised.

"Victory to William Winter!"

The crowd applauded, and Ashworth stood up, and gave Will a light, courteous bow before leaving the ring without complaint.

Will was given a few minutes to rest as a squire offered him some water and inspected the dents in the armor (not to fix them, but to make sure he was still able to compete in the next round). He had a few moments to catch his breath and observe the next duel in the ring.

Facing Alric Varnholt, a well regarded knight known for his strength and gallantry, was a mystery opponent that the Herald announced as ‘the knight who shall not be named’. He was shorter and slighter than most, in a simple armor without any sigils or colors. He never once removed his helm, and commoners were already running wagers as to his true identity.

The duel the two fought was extremely fast paced, with Alric chasing the smaller knight around the ring, who kept evading him like smoke in the wind. For all of Alric’s strength, he ended up losing after the nimbler foe exhausted him enough to land a few blows that penetrated his defenses.

The victor was announced again, and a few short minutes later Will and the nameless knight were both summoned to the ring again, this time for the final bout that would decide the melee champion.

Miyana

Miyana’s opponent, the man in green, never missed his mark. He shot with almost flawless precision, and when he lost, it was by a margin of precisely one single point.

The crowd didn’t even wait for the herald to speak and announce her victory. A roar erupted from the Traladaran spectators, and in moments, the rope diving them from the range was swept aside, as men, women, and children rushed toward their champion. Miyana found herself hoisted into the air, high above their shoulders, over their heads, as they continued to cheer around her.

Miyana is caught by surprise as she is suddenly hoisted into the air! At first, she struggles, but eventually gives up and just goes with it.

Boudica’s face drops, crestfallen. She looks down at the staff she wields, and sighs. Somehow she had convinced herself that she too would be chosen, that Petra would appear before her as Halav seems to for Will. She has taken up Petra’s staff, followed Halav’s direction, and even sought out the historical Petra’s home. And nothing, not even an inkling.

She turns to the scholar and thanks him, saying, "I thank you, but my questions - my quest, really — was one of faith, not historical curiosity. I was on a pilgrimage, you might say, to locate every site and object directly connected to the real, historical Petra. I had hoped my pilgrimage would reach its culmination here, and yet it seems I am without further direction. Can you at least direct me to Old Specularum, where the Karakatos settlement is said to have been located? I’ll walk the streets in prayer and reflect for a while, before reconsidering my pilgrimage. So unless you are aware of any other locations or objects of importance for Petra, I must take my leave."

"That is an interesting opportunity. Also rather difficult to not only take one alive but to also transport back here. That is of course after even locating such a creature. "

"Of course if I had some advance knowledge where one would expect such to be or even what one would be expected to appear as would aid greatly. "

"Unfortunately, I have not learned the spell which would aid in locating such a creature. I suspect that they would be evil and a spell such as 'Detect Evil' would aid greatly. "

Bertram’s smile faltered for a moment as he couldn’t hide his disappointment. He hoped she was there to help him uncover the historical truth about Karameikos’ past, but maybe not everyone possessed the same thirst for knowledge as the mythical sly Zirchev.

"You will want to head to the old quarter, south of the ‘street of dreams’. It used to be the closest part of the old city to the Highreach River" He tried offering her an encouraging smile, though he didn’t know what she expected to find there. Like any part of the old city, it has been built, and rebuilt, numerous times throughout the centuries. There wasn’t a single stone there which lay in the same place for a thousand years.

"I wish you luck on your pilgrimage. And should your journey ever bring you new questions, or better yet, answers, I hope you’ll return to share them with us"

"If the Nosferatu were easy to find, we would have captured one by now. These aren’t mindless monsters lurking in crypts or ruined towers. They embed themselves in human society. They could be merchants, scholars, nobles, even priests. That is what makes them so difficult to uncover. Perhaps you’ll have better luck tracing them by their appetites."

He nods at the mention of the spell, though he finds it hard to believe it would do him any good with finding one of the Nosferatu

"The Guild’s library is open to you. If you believe a certain spell may aid your efforts, you are welcome to study and learn it"

Miyana

A few of the Thyatian spectators rolled their eyes at the display. They were far too reserved to indulge in such spontaneous celebration, plus, the Traladarans’ delight at one of their own besting all the Thyatian competitors didn’t exactly help matters. Still, none of them interfered, not the guards, not even the tournament officials, who merely watched as the crowd let off its steam.

Once the cheering finally faded and Miyana was gently lowered back to the ground, one of the officials stepped forward and politely asked her to follow him. She was to return to the melee grounds for the award ceremony, where the Duke and his family were already watching the final duel.
