I think that running tight chapters would be best way to keep everything sync'ed
Perhaps use a jeep-roleplay tecknique, by providing an end goal for each chapter, up front. This can help guide the players, without depriving them of choices.
Example.
Quote:
In this chapter each of your characters will have their first change.
X will be disowned by his family.
Y will be presumed dead by his family.
Z will still be around his family
Quote:
In this chapter the pack will attend the midsummer blot, where they will make a new friend and two new enemies.
They will write their stories in the stone in the deep cave (to be discovered in the modern era)
As you see its very open ended, but gives the characters something to steer their actions and connect plot ploints
