Chapter 3: Drink Deep From the River of My Hate

As Tzal protects himself with illusory duplicates, Lauretta strides forward, enacting a righteous shield around herself. The Broken On clucks his tongue as he moves forward to meet her. "You should embrace the destruction Invidian brings. We mortals have been condemned to live in this world. The greatest gift we can receive is a swift death so that we can stand directly in the light of High One!" He swings his mace, scoring a critical hit that leaves Lauretta reeling!

Invidian urges their mount forward. The black steed rides up until the archon is beside Lauretta, then Invidian slices with their black blade! Fortunately, the slice is way off target!

Meanwhile, Agada the Seer invokes a powerful spell. Shadowy fiendish figures rise up among the stones of Sainted Mikkel's shrine, grabbing at the rest of the party!
OOC:
Lauretta takes 12 damage and is confused until the end of the Broken One's next turn. R3N-L3, Tzal, and Wolfram each take 2 damage and each must make an Agility roll with 1 bane. On a failure, the target takes an extra 3d6 damage and becomes held (luck ends). A held target makes the luck roll to end the affliction with 1 bane.

@Windyridge,@Lcythas may both act now in round 1!

Tzal tried to dodge the shadowy, fiendish figures that tried to attack them. His illusory figures also followed his movements. Gritting his teeth, he looked back at the sorceress and said, "That was not a good move." He pointed his staff at her and sent a flying jellyfish towards her.
OOC:
Agility roll with bane. That's a critcal success.

Tilting his head slightly to the side at the shadowy tendrils, R3N-L3 somehow managed to bully his way through the grasping hands, more due to simply being too heavy to stop rather than particularly nimble, readying his blade for a quick swipe at the mace-wielder that had attacked Lauretta.
OOC:
Ix Nay those previous rolls! R3N-L3 will use Dodge as a reaction to automatically pass the agi save since GM allowed, and he'll be making a blade attack against the mace-wielder. UPDATE: Embarrassingly enough, I misread the part where Bonus Dice can be spent every round, so terrribly sorry! With bonus damage since that's R3N-L3's sole attack, it ends up being 20 damage either way if he crit. If he didn't crit, it's 19 damage!

OOC:
Lauretta took the initiative and moved up. If R3N-L3 took the initiative to move up with her, he wouldn't have had the reaction to use Cover Ally. If he saved his reaction, he wouldn't have been within reach of her to Cover Ally. So it unfortunately wouldn't be an option.
Jun 9, 2025 1:11 pm
OOC:
Damn, then he'll just use the opportunity to dodge it xP
Jun 9, 2025 1:13 pm
OOC:
A boon to his roll from Dodge would likely save him from that damage and being held, so that's certainly a good choice!
Jun 9, 2025 1:16 pm
OOC:
Dodge wouldn't use up a charge of Certain Outcome, but since I already saw the roll and would know a Dodge would auto-pass, I'm just self-docking a use to make things fair xP, since I can't unsee that
Jun 9, 2025 1:18 pm
OOC:
I'll let you Dodge without using Certain Outcome, since the nature of PbP makes the timing of rules clarifications fiddly. :)

"Loretta, no!" Wolfram shouted out, hoping to stop her, but Wolfram was too late, and he knew the priest wouldn't take heed of his warning anyway. One of the grasping hordes managed to get a hit, causing Wolfram to grimace.

Made a bit of a whoopsie with Bonus Dice, didn't know you could spend them every round xP. Damage values have been updated for R3N-L3's attack accordingly

Shrugging off the injury made easy by his rushing adrenaline, Wolfram lunges at one of the vile fiends with his enchanted dagger as it twists the light into sparklingly bright hues of orange.

OOC:
Attack looks a little light on the damage or boons somewhere! Wolfram's attacks with Whisperthorn should have

4 Boons:
1. Superior Weapon
2. Enchanted Weapon
3. Trickery (Rogue)
4. Relic Weapon (Inheritor)

4d6 Damage:
1. Dagger
2. Trickery (Rogue)
3. Bonus Damage (Inheritor)
4. Relic Weapon (Inheritor)

(4) = 4

R3N-L3 and Wolfram both move in to attack the Broken One. The clockwork scores a critical hit, while Wolfram's dagger finds a weak spot in the enemy priest's mail to drive deep into the man's chest. The priest grimaces in pain, badly wounded, but he speaks words of blasphemy, directing them towards Tzal.
OOC:
End of round 1. Anybody who wants to act first in round 2 may take the initiative now.

@TheForsakenEvil: At the start of Lauretta's turn, Invidian uses their reaction to speak a terrible curse. Lauretta makes a luck roll. On a success, she becomes immune to Curse of the Antigod for 24 hours. On a failure, she becomes cursed for 24 hours. While cursed in this way, the victim cannot heal damage

@Stalker05: At the start of Tzal's turn, the Broken One uses his reaction to harangue him. He makes a Will roll with 2 boons against Tzal's Will. He succeeds, so Tzal becomes Intellect impaired and Will impaired (luck ends both).
[ +- ] Status

Rolls

Harangue - (d20+4+2d6h1)

(17) + (15) + 4 = 26

Tzal screamed at the curse directed at him by the blasphemous priest. His heart raced, but his mind cleared after momentarily getting clouded. He clutched his grimoire tighter to his chest and then moved closer towards the priest. Bringing out a flask of slimy black ichor, he threw it towards the priest.
OOC:
So, as long as Tzal has the Grimoire, he can't become intellect impaired.

Rolls

Intellect (Black bile poison) - (1d20+4)

(16) + 4 = 20

boon - (1d6)

(1) = 1

(442) = 10

OOC:
So, as long as Tzal has the Grimoire, he can't become intellect impaired.
OOC:
Nifty! :D

OOC:
As Lauretta is confused until the end of Broken One's next turn, she cannot take reactions. So, taking the initiative is out of the question and she'll have to wait until everyone else goes!
Before she could even think to respond to the damnable prattling of the former priest, the world shook. Vision bleary and ears ringing, the Preceptor stumbled. Did he hit me? She was prepared for Invidian, but not the Broken One's prowess. The mace had hit her skull, leaving the world spinning. Standing there, Lauretta tried to hold a defensive stance while trying to make sense of what was going on around her.

R3N-L3 won't be taking the initiative to see where the attacks go
Jun 12, 2025 4:59 pm
Buoyed by his success, Wolfram strikes again, hoping to find the same chainmail weakness.

Rolls

Strength/Enchanted Dagger Attack/Attack Boon Trickery - (1d20+0, 1d6)

1d20+0 : (20) = 20

1d6 : (6) = 6
