"I do not possess vital organs. Therefore, I should be of the vanguard." R3N-L3 said, before appearing to decide to head down the passage he'd opened due to simply being closer to it.

"I agree. We should explore both, but one at a time. I say we start with the rolling eye passage first, and I agree that the clockwork goes first."
OOC:
Do the rolling eyes stop on the landing or continue down the stairs?

OOC:
The eyes stop at the landing.
R3N-L3 steps through the large eye before anybody else can protest. In each corner of the room beyond, a column of eyes extends from floor to ceiling. A chariot, several iron-bound chests, silk bags, bolts of cloth, and other valuables occupy the room’s center. More eyes appear on the walls, floor, and ceiling. A stone door with handle stands in the center of the south wall.

The clockwork eyed the chariot for a few unspoken seconds, before shaking his head and moving on to doing a basic, workman-like search of the room, opening chests, checking contents, and making sure that any traps were triggered by him before the team could suffer from them.

As R3N-L3 searches the room, it quickly becomes clear that the treasure here is false. His hands pass right through the goods, causing the whole thing to waver and revealing the room's contents as illusory. At the same time, there is a clanking sound, and a portcullis drops from the ceiling behind the clockwork, sealing the passage through the large eye! Luckily, nobody is standing under the portcullis as it falls.
OOC:
The portcullis ignores damage from weapons other than two-handed melee weapons. The portcullis has Health 20.

Tzal went inside the room after R3N-L3 and looked at all the eyes in the wall. He was surprised to see a chariot in the room. "How did this thing even come here? Strange room, I must admit." He tapped the chest with his staff, wondering whether they were real or not.

Laurreta flinched at the crash of the portcullis. Hastily pushing past Wolfram, she ran over to the large eye's passage that was now sealed.

"You've gone and done it now, Renly! Seems like whoever built this temple kept intruders in mind. Gonna have to get this thing open quick. Last thing we need is something bad happening while we're separated. Stand back!"

Thumping the haft of her axe against her hand, the priest considered the best approach. A shrug and a moment later, the head of the axe slammed into the obstacle.
OOC:
Is the portcullis made of wood or iron? Lauretta has a two-handed melee weapon, but I don't think an axe will be much help in cutting through metal.
OOC:
Edited my post accordingly! I'll roll damage just in case I need to, but Lauretta will keep hacking away at it until it is destroyed.

Rolls

Axe - Damage - (4d6)

(2213) = 8

Axe - Brutal Reroll - (2+2+1d6+3)

(6) + 7 = 13

OOC:
Damn! I totally missed the portcullis part. Can it be done that R3N-L3 and Tzal entered simultaneously?

OOC:
The text doesn't specify the material of the portcullis. I'll say Lauretta can bash through it without damaging her weapon.

Sure, Tzal, you can be on the far side with R3N-L3.

Tzal is surprised when the portcullis comes down from nowhere. "Oh no! We are trapped on this side! There is surely going to be somekind of mechanism to operate this." He started checking and tapping the eyes on the walls of the room.

OOC:
I edited my last post to accommodate new information. Lauretta is currently hacking away at the portcullis.

Lauretta’s axe makes short work of the portcullis. Soon enough, she has chopped a big enough hole in the middle for anybody to pass through.
Apr 17, 2025 12:26 pm
"Don't worry, I've got it."

A few more pieces of the portcullis are kicked out of the way as Lauretta makes her way through to the other side. Looking around the room has the priest in awe.

"Never seen a hoard like this before. I'm guessin' it's fake? Glad it seems like that gate was the worst of it. I don't think they considered would-be thieves had brought an axe."

Stepping around the room, she taps various things with her axe, curious if there was anything at all real in the room.

All of the treasure here is illusory. The only real bits are the columns and the door to the south.
Apr 17, 2025 12:53 pm
"Well, I think it's safe to say everything here is some kind of illusion. Not much point in lingering. Come on, we've still gotta find this damn gem. Sooner the better."

Lauretta moves ahead to the stone door, opening it by the handle and seeing what's ahead.
Apr 17, 2025 1:24 pm
The south door opens onto a T-intersection. To the west, the hall ends in a square room. Two niches in the north, west, and south walls hold skeletal remains. On the center of the ceiling and floor are yet more giant eyes. A few sacks rest in the corner.

To the east, the hall opens into a long, narrow room. The walls, floor, and ceiling of this chamber have been painted black and flecked with tiny white spots that look a bit like stars. A hole in the wall opposite of the entrance offers a way out of this chamber. At the room’s center, blocking further progress, stand two skeletal warriors wearing tattered rags. Each holds an axe in both hands before its body, the butt planted on the ground. They remain silent and unmoving, but you get the sense that they are watching you...

Wolfram follows Lauretta through the portcullis.

"Shame the treasure is fake, eh?" As he looks around at the various doorways and passages, he notes the guards.

"We should probably avoid those skeleton warriors. Shall we head south?" he asks, eyeing the skeletons.
Apr 17, 2025 6:15 pm
Tzal eyed the skeletal warriors in the east room, "That is a strange room. Why is it painted so dark? Looks like those skeletal guardians are placed as if they are guarding something. Are they really awake, or are they decorative? We can try to test it from this distance." He turned to Wolfram and said, "You can shoot an arrow at them and check if it's just a decorative thing or if it's animated."
Apr 17, 2025 6:42 pm
"I'm not sure that's a good idea. I mean why wake them if they are asleep, and in the meantime, we can explore other unguarded areas and then come back here."
Apr 18, 2025 1:49 pm
"That portcullis trap was meant to keep thieves in. If I was still a betting woman, I'd bet money that those skeletons can swing those axes just fine. I can feel them staring at me. Firing on them from here is the smart choice if we have to fight them to pass, but Wolfram's right. No point running into danger if it's not the only way forward for now."

Lauretta gives Tzal and Wolfram a quick slap on the shoulder to get their attention before motioning the group to turn back.
