Let's brainstorm our next move. We have names of some of the cultists involved. We know the year the barn confrontation happened (August 13, 1924) .

It might be worth hitting newspaper archives in libraries, to look for press reports of that barn event? We don't know where it happened, geographically.

I agree.

I did wonder if Katherine Clark was a reporter or a socialite yachtie, with the reference to a dock near her photo.

We might get hits on other names.

Yes! Clarke was mentioned as Henslowe's group's archivist and photographer. Finding her work would be incredibly useful, to see more methodical accounts of the facts (so far we saw and heard the accounts of insane victims...). Her archives might contain better facts, addresses and dates.

So, a newspapers' archive next? Los Angeles Times, or similar?

There's also the First Bank of Long Beach and what might be a safe deposit key.

Yes, let us try the archive first.

Sam would advocate the safety deposit box first, since it should be a quick stop and may give the group a better idea of where to look.

We may not need to pour through a paper's archives if the articles or other documentation in question is in that box.

you're right - safety box first makes better sense, let's head to First Bank first.

We might need to be a Mr. Henslowe to access it however. Who fancies indulging in fraud or do we try and access it by legal proxy?

Good point. I know how safe deposit boxes work in the modern day, but back then rules were probably different. And our GM can make them anything...

Sam would likely have an idea though, since he worked security at a bank.

Sam would know! It's pretty simple - if you have the key, you take it along to the bank, and a bank employee retrieves his own key; both are needed to open up the safe deposit box. Both of you do so, and the employee then leaves the room while you peruse / add to / withdraw whatever contents you have in there. They keys are numbered, so it doesn't matter who you are; possession of the key is all that matters.

so... even if the box still exists intact, and we have the one key - we need to find the bank key to open it. Smashing it might be easier! 😅

It might be on site at least.

Withdrawal with a crowbar, hammer and chisel, eh? Hope they didn't store anything with a nitroglycerin content in there.

FDIC office in the am?
Sep 11, 2025 4:33 pm
Sounds good, let's dig some more to find those security box contents.
Phone directory to get an address of the largest LA office, then drive there...

Just to let you know I'm going to be a bit busy again this week (at least the first half). New academic year always brings up new and unexpected challenges.
Sep 23, 2025 2:53 pm
Should be able to get back on track now, sorry for the delay.
Sep 23, 2025 5:14 pm
no worries!

MaJunior has the Zzzs next to his name and hasn't been on for a while; hopefully he's fine and will return. If it seems he has left, shall I try to recruit another player? I'm happy with a small group, so 2 players is still fine for me, though it will leave you a little light on muscle. Whatever we choose, hopefully he'll be back soon anyway.

I'd wait a bit, we're OK at the moment, I hope.
