Thomas is entranced by the motion at the end of the hallway, and seems for a moment as though he's going to take a step forward, but the shriek from the archeologist breaks the spell that held him. He jerks, a look of revulsion across his face, and whips around to face the other two men, knife held at the ready.

"What is it Doctor," Thomas asks. His eyes are scanning the end of the room Eugen and Dr. Whittaker are standing in for trouble. When he sees no immediate threat he quickly looks to Lady Bishop, who appears to be lounging on the ancient furniture. A quick scan of the room seems to show nothing has changed.

Thomas moves away from the chilling scene in the north passage toward the two men.

Clara passes Thomas as he returns to the main room, but the annex is now mostly in darkness again, without the candle.

OOC:
Oops, missed that Lady Bishop was on the move
"My Lady Bishop," says Thomas, moving between her and the entry way to the north corridor.
"What is in there appears to be dangerous. I fear something there proved fatal to a previous...explorer. Please allow me and the other experts you have hired to do our jobs, and keep you safe by examining the area first."

The noble lady has turned around and is heading into the annex when she hears the screams and shouts of Mr. Chornyi and Dr. Whittaker. She is frozen in place as Thomas whips towards her and the room she has just left with a knife in hand, glinting in the candlelight. She keeps her eyes on him and the knife as he passes by her to check that the others are safe. Her eyes snap back to his face as he addresses her and she tries to appear calm, despite feeling very much the opposite now.

"O-of course Mr. Ackerman. I feel quite useless though as I do not have the strength or knowledge that you all have. Perhaps I will search for more torches in the room we were just in then."

She side-eyes the knife still in his hand and scoots back to the treasure room and checks on the men they just left.

"Gentlemen, are you hurt?"

"I can't get paid and I can't get out of this hellish sandpit if she gets herself killed," Thomas thinks. Assuring himself that Lady Bishop isn't going to head down the corridor with the corpse and the...whatever the hell that was down there, he follows her, keeping her within arm's reach.

"What ... we ... there."

Eugen is speechless. Shocked by insight.
OOC:

Are the bodies with the heads old or "new", I mean: does it look like they'd been placed here, when the tomb was sealed?
Can we even examine this, or is the terror too big?

Feb 22, 2025 10:51 am
OOC:
Yes, you can examine, the Sanity is from the initial shock. They are old but seem to be preserved even without wrappings. They were likely placed here when the tomb was sealed, but you have not been able to ascertain when that was (waiting on an Archaeology roll from anyone else to see if they have insight )
OOC:
Edit:Just noticed no-one else has anything worth rolling in that skill other than Eugen! You could try to push your roll, that might entail something like touching something at the risk of it breaking. Alternatively you could drop a bunch of Luck on your Arch. roll.

Robert almost stuttered, "HHHowww is this possibble? These were actual humans!?" He took a sharp intake of breath to calm himself and then checked the surroundings for any inscriptions.

Thomas follows Lady Bishop over to the other two men. He looks over the two corpses mounted in front of the closed archway.
"Steady on men," says Thomas from Lady Bishop's side.
"They're just mummies. The dead hold no horrors for the living. Besides, they're just the chaps we were looking for. They'll be worth quite a lot once we get them topside," Thomas tries to twist his face into a reassuring smile, but it comes out more like a pained grimace, as though his muscles were unfamiliar with the shape he was trying to form. His eyes have taken on a long stare, like he's barely seeing what's before him. Anyone who looks into his face can see a feral set to his jaw, and in his eyes the flash of blades, and gouts of gunfire from long ago.
"That's right. The dead hold no horrors for the likes of us." He says this quietly. Almost as to himself.
OOC:
I wasn't sure if Thomas needed to roll sanity for seeing the remains for the first time, but his reaction would be similar either way.
Edit:
OOC:
Thomas loses 1 sanity taking him from 50 to 49.

Rolls

Sanity vs 50 - (1d100)

(73) = 73

Feb 23, 2025 10:19 am
OOC:
Yes, Thomas and Clara do need Sanity rolls at this point. The loss is 0/1, so 0 on a pass and -1 on a fail.
Feb 23, 2025 11:45 am
Eugen is still shocked. Though mummies of animals an people are common items, the very nature of the two guards has a different vibe.

His heart beats fast and a strange kind of fear touches his guts.
OOC:
I'm on a family trip today, hence a little passive. Hope, that's okay.

OOC:
No problem Tergolap. Have fun!
Feb 23, 2025 3:09 pm
As Lady Bishop moves forward to check on the gentlemen, she now sees better in the candlelight the mummified, mutilated remains now acting as warnings of what is to come. She gasps in shock and puts a gloved hand over her mouth as she involuntarily jumps back and knocks a vase over by mistake.
OOC:
Have fun tergolap! For sanity rolls, is it always going to be versus original sanity levels or current sanity levels?

Rolls

Sanity vs 70% - (1d100)

(15) = 15

Feb 23, 2025 3:11 pm
OOC:
Current, but you passed regardless!
Feb 24, 2025 7:41 pm
OOC:
Now, after the shock: is a character able to look at the scene and examine the environment? Or does the look still cause a shock?
Feb 24, 2025 7:45 pm
OOC:
The shock is only momentary unless I say otherwise (for example if you hit indefinite insanity)
Everyone can act as normal

Thomas moves closer to inspect the stone slab.
"What do you think gents? Seems like the real treasure would be behind this wouldn't it considering the," he waves the hand holding his knife to point to the mummified corpses, "er, security."
"Also I didn't see a way out in the northern passageway, so this might be our best bet."
OOC:
Thomas would like to examine the stone slab to see if there is any way to open it.

Are there any inscription on the statue pedestal or surrounding walls?
