Nyx moves into the stairwell quietly and carefully as Zim backs off from the door and construct. He then heads down the stairs.

If the construct is tearing up the blanket, are its hands off the lever? If so, I will try to move the lever with mage hand again.

While the construct is struggling with the blanket and trying to keep one hand on the lever (disadvantage on save?), Tante Lude steps out and attempt to telekinetically shove him away from it.

Telekinetic Shove. As a Bonus Action, you can telekinetically shove one creature you can see within 30 feet of yourself. When you do so, the target must succeed on a Strength saving throw (DC 16) or be moved S feet toward or away from you.

Creature moves away from lever to clear the view and you pull the lever while it does so for no effect.
But when it clears the view you see the hole in the ground is gone. There is only a plain floor .
Later with telekinic and other efforts you manage to figure out pulling the lever closes the hole and putting it in upper position opens it again.

A bit of confusion on my side. Narrating now Nyx "heads down the stairs." 
but stairs keep descending another 25 when it ends with closed doors to east and another hallway south and have a turn east.
He returns to party sharing his discovery with everyone
